The attackers, believed to be part of a Baloch insurgent group, arrived in 11 vehicles and began the assault by destroying communication equipment at the outposts.
Eight Pakistani soldiers were killed and 11 injured in a coordinated militant assault on Sunday night in Balochistan's Panjgur district. According to official sources, over 80 heavily armed assailants launched a complex, multi-pronged attack on three separate military checkpoints in the remote Gwargo area, dealing a severe blow to the region's fragile security environment.
The attackers, believed to be part of a Baloch insurgent group, arrived in 11 vehicles and began the assault by destroying communication equipment at the outposts. This strategic move reportedly cut off the units from backup support, enabling the attackers to lay an ambush for the quick response force that was dispatched to the scene.
Three security personnel remain missing, with a manhunt underway in the rugged terrain. No group has formally claimed responsibility for the assault so far, but it bears the hallmarks of recent attacks by Baloch separatist factions that have stepped up operations against Pakistani forces.
This latest incident comes on the heels of one of the deadliest days for Pakistani troops in recent history. Earlier in July, at least 20 Pakistani soldiers were killed in two separate ambushes in Balochistan within 12 hours, also involving the destruction of communication links and the use of decoys to mislead reinforcements.
Balochistan has seen a sharp uptick in violence over the past year, with separatist groups targeting infrastructure projects, military installations, and security convoys. The province, rich in resources but plagued by political marginalisation and insurgency, remains a flashpoint in Pakistan's internal security landscape.

In a first ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor, Pakistan Army indulge in ‘unprovoked' firing in Poonch

In the first ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor in May, Pakistan army on Tuesday (August 5,. 2025) evening indulged in "unprovoked" firing on forward Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said. The Indian Army strongly retaliated and the exchange of small arms firing between the two sides continued for nearly 15 minutes in the Mankote sector, they said. There was no immediate report of any casualty, the officials said, adding security forces have been put on high alert all along the border in view of the ceasefire violation that coincided with the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile State of J&K, and its bifurcation into two Union territories. The sources said that the firing from across the border started at 7.40 PM on forward posts and the Indian troops retaliated befittingly. Indian and Pakistani militaries engaged in intense clashes between May 7 and 10 after India launched missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. The border clashes, however, died down after the two countries reached an understanding. At least 28 persons were killed in Pakistani shelling, missile and drone attacks along the LoC in J&K with 13 of these deaths reported in Poonch district alone.

Delhi Police constable injured in attack during raid on bootleggers premises

New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) A Delhi Police constable sustained serious injuries after a police team was attacked by a group of people, including a known bootlegger and his family members, during a raid in southeast Delhi's Gautampuri area, an official said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday evening after constable Lakhan of the Special Staff in the southeast district received a tip-off about a large consignment of illicit liquor being stored at the residence of Kailash (63), a habitual offender with multiple cases under the Excise Act, he said. 'Acting on the information, inspector Rajinder Singh Dagar, in-charge of the Special Staff, formed a team comprising sub-inspector Shubham and other personnel. The team, dressed in civil clothes, reached the location around 8 pm," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said. During initial surveillance, constables Lakhan and Satbir observed Kailash and another man openly selling liquor on the staircase of the house, he added. When the police team attempted to intervene, Kailash allegedly incited the crowd by shouting that someone should be killed to protect the business. Following this, Kailash, his wife Seeta, an associate named Sameer, a 17-year-old juvenile, and several others allegedly attacked the police team with lathis and bricks. Meanwhile, additional police force was called to the spot, and the situation was brought under control. Kailash, Seeta, Sameer, and the juvenile were apprehended, while others managed to flee under the cover of the gathered crowd. A case under relevant sections of the BNS was registered at the Badarpur police station. Odisha CM calls for harmony between jungle dwellers and forest officials

Agency: PTI Bhubaneswar, Aug 5 (PTI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday asked forest officers to refrain from corruption and create a conflict-free coexistence with jungle dwellers while implementing the rules. Addressing the state-level Forest Officers Conference here, the CM told them to be sensitive while dealing with poor people. 'One-fourth of the state's population is tribal, and they mainly live in forests and its surrounding areas. It is the moral responsibility of the government to create a conflict-free co-existence for them and protect them," the CM said. Stating that forest officers are mainly interacting with tribals, Dalits and backwards class people, the chief minister told the officers to be sensitive while dealing with these people. He said the forest officers need to involve more people in plantation and tree protection activities, like dousing forest fire incidents. Majhi suggested that forest officers undertake paddy cultivation in vacant spaces within forest areas in order to keep jumbos within the forest boundary, so that they do not visit human habitation areas. The chief minister said that during tree plantation programme, the officers should focus on fruits and flowers in human habituated areas so that the local people would be interested in protecting them. Similarly, in roadside tree plantation programme, Majhi suggested that officers plant useful trees. He said attention should also be given to the protection of wildlife. The CM expressed satisfaction over the protection of wildlife. He said, 'We have not achieved 100 per cent success. The officers should use new technologies where necessary. Take cooperation of voluntary organisations, civic safety forums, and others for forest protection." The chief minister said that the current government is adopting a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. 'Stay away from corruption," Majhi said.
