Illinois Manufacturers' Association names ‘Makers Madness' winner

Yahoo09-04-2025

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — After more than 250 initial entries, a winner has been crowned in the sixth annual 'Makers Madness' contest.
The Aerial Firefighting Helicopter Refill Pump made by MTH Pumps in Plano has been named 'The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois' in the 2025 edition of the tournament. This pump was designed to reduce the refill time of helicopter-based water tanks from over a minute to as little as 30 seconds.
Gov. Pritzker signs memorandum with the United Kingdom
The product aims to increase the number of water drops that aerial firefighters can release onto a wildfire. This time advantage improves the chances of slowing and stopping fires from endangering lives, property and animal habitats.
Recently, when the wildfires were causing havoc in California, MTH Pumps provided improved water access to the aerial firefighting teams with this product. The MTH Pumps team joined Governor JB Pritzker on stage to accept their award at a luncheon at the Governor's Mansion in Springfield on Wednesday.
'As the second smallest company to win the 'Makers Madness' contest, I'd like to dedicate this award to all the small manufacturers of Illinois who do their part to produce amongst the best, most creative products that the world has to offer,' said Tim Tremain, MTH Pumps President.
The TCCI Electric Compressor made by TCCI Manufacturing in Decatur made it to the top 16 round, but would lose to the eventual champion. Over the course of this year's eight-week competition, almost 411,000 total votes were cast.

Zacks Investment Ideas feature highlights: Serve Robotics, Uber Technologies and Nvidia

Chicago, IL – June 6, 2025 – Today, Zacks Investment Ideas feature highlights Serve Robotics Inc. SERV, Uber Technologies UBER and Nvidia NVDA. Few investors have even heard of Serve Robotics Inc., yet the coming weeks could push this micro-cap onto every AI and robotics watch-list. Spun out of Uber Technologies in 2021, the company's bright-blue sidewalk robots have already logged tens of thousands of autonomous deliveries, but the real inflection point is just ahead. Management has begun a nationwide roll-out with Uber Eats, most recently adding the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, and is racing toward a contractual goal of deploying 2,000 units before year-end. SERV stock has been on a rocky path over the last two years, marked by fits of big rallies, selloffs and high volatility. But now, it appears the catalysts are aligning. Along with the Uber rollout, Serve sales growth is expected to inflect significantly higher in the coming quarters, while the stock price is building powerful momentum. With the robotics theme really grabbing attention in the last couple of weeks, and the technology suddenly gaining practical application, Serve Robotics Inc. stock may be about to take off. Although Serve Robotics still operates at a loss, sales are expected to meaningfully pick up over the next year. Current year sales are forecast to come in around $5 million, while next year is expected to jump 670% to $41.2 million. However, with the unprecedented opportunity ahead in the robotics industry, even those forecasts could be understated. Notably, Serve Robotics is hosting an annual meeting on June 12th, which could mark a major announcement and add to the upside catalysts in the stock. I began writing about the opportunities in robotics stocks just a couple of weeks ago as the theme is quickly picking up steam. While high-profile names like Nvidia are the obvious plays, lesser-known companies like Serve Robotics offer investors a non-consensus way to capture more asymmetric upside in this rapidly evolving space. That said, Nvidia remains a core opportunity. The company has made its ambitions in robotics clear, aiming to dominate the category just as it has in artificial intelligence. Its expanding microprocessor platform is designed to power everything from warehouse bots to autonomous delivery systems, placing Nvidia at the center of the AI-robotics-automation nexus. Meanwhile, Uber Technologies has quietly become one of the most forward-thinking players in automation. Through its partnership with Serve Robotics for sidewalk delivery and its growing relationship with Waymo on the ride-hailing front, Uber is leveraging cutting-edge technology to redefine logistics. As I have noted, SERV stock has really begun to pick up steam in the last couple of months. After bottoming in early April, along with the broader market, the stock has gone on a quick 130% run. Over the last few days, SERV has been forming a clear technical bull flag, highlighting a potentially opportune time to start buying the stock. If it can trade materially above the $12.30 level, it would signal a technical breakout, and could lead to another sustained bull run. Serve Robotics Inc. isn't for the faint of heart. As a small-cap stock with limited liquidity and a short trading history, SERV has been prone to dramatic price swings. However, for those who can stomach the ups and downs, SERV may represent one of the most compelling high-risk, high-reward opportunities in the AI and robotics space. The company is targeting a real, tangible use case, last-mile delivery, and is executing alongside a blue-chip partner in Uber Technologies. Sales growth is accelerating, momentum is building, and investor awareness is only just beginning to catch up. In a market hungry for the next big breakthrough, Serve Robotics offers something rare: early-stage exposure to a real-world robotics deployment with massive scaling potential. For speculative investors looking to ride the next wave of automation, this stock may be worth a serious look. Young entrepreneur's passion for Chick-Fil-A drives his future plans

CHICAGO (WGN) – While most of us pick up fast food simply to fill us up, one local sixth grader is gaining a lot more than a good meal. Stephen Mitchell Jr., a 12-year-old student at Bronzeville Classical School, has earned multiple awards for math, poetry and robotics. Along with his stellar academics, 'Stevie' is also passionate about track and tennis. He has his eyes set on becoming an entrepreneur one day, a goal his father regularly offers advice on. Friends join together to fix up long-abandoned family fun spot in the suburbs 'You want to do something that you love and not something that will just get you this money, but something that you actually enjoy and wake up always wanting to go there,' Stevie said. That place for Stevie? Chick-Fil-A. 'Since he was a little boy, he really loved Chick-Fil-A and he would inquire, 'Can I invest in Chick-Fil-A?' and I was like, 'It's not a publicly held company, but you can become an owner/operator,'' Stevie's father, Stephen Mitchell Sr., said. That's exactly what Stevie is setting out to do. He already has a 'future operator' name tag and even dressed up as his mentor for Halloween, Kareem Edwards, a loving father and the owner/operator of the Chick-Fil-A in the South Loop. '[Stevie's] father expressed to me that he dressed as me for Halloween, which blew my mind and as a young kid, I always aspired to be a business owner and mentor, and hopefully be a positive role model. So to see Stevie in all the greatness he has and play any role in his life was surreal and rewarding,' Edwards said. By the time he's 25 years old, Stevie wants to own a Chick-Fil-A. To keep things moving in the right direction, he's interning with Kareem this summer to learn. Read more: Latest Chicago news and headlines 'Different strategies to make sure you're getting the right profit and saving money and all of that type of stuff, so I'm learning a lot,' Stevie said. For Stevie, the though of going into business is not just about making money, but opening doors of opportunity for his community. 'I think as a Chick-Fil-A owner/operator, I can help the people around me and my community. Like I said, I want to create jobs for other people and to create opportunities,' Stevie said. Stevie also made an appearance on the WGN Weekend Morning News Saturday morning. You can watch that segment here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Why Centrus Energy Stock Soared Higher This Week

Meta Platforms signed a massive 20-year deal with a nuclear energy provider, leading to investor enthusiasm across the industry. Bank of America initiated coverage of Centrus with a buy rating. Centrus is in a strong position to capitalize on the growing demand for nuclear power. 10 stocks we like better than Centrus Energy › Shares of Centrus Energy (NYSE: CCJ) are moving higher this week. The company's stock was up 11.5% at 1:08 p.m. ET from last Friday's close. The S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq-100 index were up 1.2% and 1.8%, respectively, at the same time. Centrus, a provider of enriched uranium to fuel nuclear reactors, saw its stock rise after the announcement of a major deal between Meta Platforms and Constellation Energy and after receiving a buy rating from Bank of America. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, signed a deal earlier this week that will grant it access to all the energy output from the Clinton Clean Energy Center nuclear reactor in Illinois. The 1.1 gigawatt output is enough to power 800,000 homes. Meta and other tech companies are finding it difficult to access enough power to meet the incredible demands of AI, especially if they are to try to meet their respective climate goals. Nuclear power offers relatively cheap, consistent, and abundant power without pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The announced deal helped shares of Centrus move higher, as it was a clear signal that the AI industry will actively pursue nuclear energy solutions. Centus is in a strong position to capitalize on this accelerating demand for nuclear power. It is one of only two licensed producers of enriched uranium in the U.S., giving it a substantial moat. If the marketwide trend holds, and I think it will, Centrus will no doubt benefit. And while its stock is not cheap, I think its future income justifies it.
