Dodgers activate Max Muncy, place Tommy Edman on IL
Muncy, 34, has been sidelined since injuring his left knee during the Dodgers' game against the Chicago White Sox on July 2. Playing at third base, Muncy attempted a leaping catch to snare a throw from catcher Will Smith as Chicago's Michael A. Taylor tried to steal the bag.
Taylor's helmet collided with Muncy's leg, and the Dodger immediately collapsed to the ground and clutched his knee. A follow-up MRI, however, revealed no structural damage.
Muncy made five rehab appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he recorded five hits, including a home run, in 15 at-bats. He has played in 81 games this season for the Dodgers, recording a .250 batting average, 13 homers and 55 RBIs.
The 30-year-old Edman landed on the 15-day IL with a right ankle injury for the second time this season after spraining it in Sunday's game at the Tampa Bay Rays. The 2024 NLCS MVP was hitting .228 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs in 86 games this season, his second with Los Angeles.
Edman suffered a similar injury against Boston last week and previously spent May 3-17 on the injured list with right ankle inflammation.

White Sox continue trend, add ex-Brewer Bryan Hudson
August 5 - The Chicago White Sox announced Tuesday that left-handed reliever Bryan Hudson has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte -- two days after the White Sox picked up Hudson off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. To make room for the 28-year-old Hudson, the White Sox sent right-handed reliever Owen White back to Charlotte. The team also returned rookie first baseman Tim Elko (knee) from his rehab stint at Charlotte, removed him from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Charlotte. The White Sox's acquisition of Hudson, who posted an 0-1 record with a 4.35 ERA, 13 strikeouts and 12 walks over 10 1/3 innings with the Brewers this season, continued a season-long trend. During MLB's Rule 5 draft in the offseason, the White Sox used the first pick to take unprotected Brewers prospect Shane Smith - who made the Opening Day roster and became the team's lone All-Star. On May 15, the White Sox grabbed infielder Vinny Capra off waivers from the Brewers. On June 8, the White Sox signed left-hander Tyler Alexander to a free-agent contract after he had been designated for assignment by the Brewers. Five days later, the Sox swapped first baseman Andrew Vaughn to the Brewers for right-handed starter Aaron Civale. QB Anthony Richardson to start Colts' preseason opener vs. Ravens
August 5 - Anthony Richardson will start at quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts when they visit the Baltimore Ravens in Thursday night's preseason opener. Richardson and veteran Daniel Jones are battling for the job and listed as co-No. 1s on the depth chart. Colts coach Shane Steichen is trying to make it an even competition. For example, Richardson is slated to play 1 1/2 quarters against the Ravens with Jones finishing out the first half. But in the second preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 16, Jones will start and play 1 1/2 quarters with Richardson finishing out the first half. "In a perfect world, that's how I want it to play out," Steichen said Tuesday following a joint practice against the Ravens in Owing Mills, Md. Steichen has said he has no problem waiting until the three-game preseason is over before making a decision. Richardson, 23, is 8-7 as a starter for Indianapolis since being selected with the No. 4 overall pick in 2023 out of Florida. He has endured multiple injuries that limited him to four games in 2023 and 11 last season. Richardson has completed just 50.6 percent of his passes for 2,391 yards and 11 TDs with 13 interceptions. He has rushed for 635 yards and 10 scores. Jones spent five-plus seasons with the New York Giants before finishing last year with the Minnesota Vikings. He signed a one-year, $14 million deal as a free agent with the Colts in the offseason. Drafted No. 6 overall by New York in 2019 out of Duke, Jones compiled a 24-44-1 record as a starter for the Giants while passing for 14,582 yards, 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions and rushing for 2,179 yards and 15 scores. Vikings WR Jordan Addison suspended 3 games following plea deal
August 5 - The NFL has suspended Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison three games without pay for violating the league's substances of abuse policy, the club announced Tuesday. ESPN reported Monday that the team was bracing for the news following the adjudication of his legal case stemming from his arrest on a DUI charge in July 2024. According to the team, Addison can participate fully in all training camp activities and preseason games. But he will not play when the Vikings open the regular season Sept. 8 in Chicago against the Bears on Monday Night Football. Addison also will miss the home games against the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals in Weeks 2 and 3. Addison is eligible to return for Minnesota's Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland. Addison was arrested in July 2024 near Los Angeles International Airport after police found him asleep at the wheel of his Rolls-Royce, which was blocking a lane of traffic on Interstate 105. He resolved his legal case last month by pleading no contest to a lesser charge. He was placed on 12 months of probation and ordered to pay a fine and complete two online courses. He caught 63 passes for 875 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games (all starts) during his second season in 2024.
