New details about officer-involved shooting that shut down I-80 in Dallas County

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Dallas County Sheriff's Office is releasing limited details about an officer-involved shooting that took place early Tuesday morning.
In a news release, the DCSO said law enforcement was investigating a traffic complaint near the 104 mile marker of I-80, west of De Soto, around 1:34 a.m. Multiple agencies were involved in the investigation in addition to the DCSO, including the Adair County Sheriff's Office, Stuart Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and the Adel Police Department.

The DCSO said that during the incident, deputies and officers fired their guns. No other details about the incident itself were released.
The officers and deputies who fired their weapons have been placed on paid administrative leave, per protocol, pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Their names have not been released at this point.
Law enforcement radio traffic recorded at the time of the incident indicated a suspect may be shooting at law enforcement as a dispatcher is heard saying, 'Deputy says male is actively shooting at her.' Within 20 minutes, an officer is heard saying, 'Suspect's down, 153.'
Officials have not confirmed the content of the law enforcement radio traffic.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Office says it is committed to transparency and will provide more details as they become available.
I-80 was closed in both directions of travel between Exit 104 and Exit 106 for hours because of the incident and the investigation. As of around 7:20 a.m., the westbound lanes were open again. The eastbound lanes were opened up around 8:33 a.m.
The DCSO is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Iowa DCI at 515-725-6010.

The ambulance then lost control and crashed in a ditch near Saussy Road and Highway 21. Both suspects were taken into custody and are in the Effingham County Jail. Police have not released their identities at this time.

The 83-year-old woman later died of her injuries, according to a Monday news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash happened at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, on U.S. Route 36, near the entrance ramp to Interstate 77 South, in Salem Township, Tuscarawas County, according to the release. 20-year-old Ashtabula man killed in weekend Painesville shooting A 26-year-old Cambridge man driving a Chevrolet Malibu southwest on U.S. Route 36 attempted a left turn onto the entrance ramp for I-77 and failed to yield to an oncoming Ford Fusion, according to the report. The Fusion struck the passenger side of the Malibu. The 85-year-old driver of the Fusion and his passenger, an 83-year-old woman, were transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both ended up in an intensive care unit at Akron General Hospital, according to the release. The 83-year-old woman, identified as Judy K. Mizer, of West Lafayette, died of her injuries on Saturday, June 7, according to the patrol. The driver of the Malibu, who troopers said caused the crash, suffered only minor injuries, according to the release. Cleveland police investigating after 7 teens shot: I-Team The Malibu driver's license was not valid at the time of the crash, having been previously suspended, according to the release. PARMA, Ohio (WJW) — Police in Parma said they will hold whoever is responsible for stealing a pink flamingo statue responsible, once they catch them. Officials said, police and the detective bureau will work together to find the person or people involved, charge them accordingly, and bring them in front of a judge. Nationwide recall of Zicam® and Orajel™ products Police report that sometime before noon on Friday, June 7, the large flamingo statue at the corner of Broadview and Snow Roads was stolen. The City of Parma Street Sign Supervisor, Brain Deyling, reported the theft. The statue is valued at approximately $2,500. It just went up in April. Parma native, Dennis Vasko, donated $2,000 for the statue's creation in dedication to his 4-year-old granddaughter Ava, who is autistic. 7 teens shot after drag racing incident: I-Team The theft comes just about a year after Parma's other flamingo statue was stolen from the Parma script sign. Three men were caught on surveillance video trying to stuff the original flamingo into a trunk before ditching it. Those men were sentenced to 10 days in jail for attempted vandalism, as well as each ordered to pay a $500 fine and complete 500 community service hours. They replaced that statue on the same day they added the statue that was just stolen from the Quarry.
