Ben Thompson will maintain the ride on Bundle Award in the BMW Hong Kong Derby (2,000m), while three-time Group One winner California Spangle is bound for the Group Two Sprint Cup (1,200m) after his racing future came into question.
Thompson has a golden opportunity to strike on his first ride in the city's most coveted race after booting home the John Size-trained Bundle Award in Sunday's Class Two Carpenter Handicap (1,800m).
The Australian jockey, who has ridden in Hong Kong since February last year, was pumped to retain the mount and is confident Bundle Award will thrive stepping up to 2,000m.
'It was a huge result to get on the horse and to win on him was fantastic,' Thompson said of Bundle Award's fast-finishing victory by a length and a quarter on Sunday.
'He looks the right horse, he couldn't be in better hands with John Size and I hope it's meant to be.
'He was great at the 1,800m and especially he really showed versatility, the way he settled back on Sunday and showed a lethal turn of foot. Before that, he sat close to the speed and was three pairs back when he won his first in Hong Kong. There's no reason to suggest he won't run the trip out strong.'
Bundle Award was handed a much-needed penalty of 11 points for his second triumph in the city, with his new mark of 86 putting him safely in the Derby field.
The son of Shamus Award also won over 1,400m in January when ridden by James McDonald and up to 1,600m in three consecutive starts in Australia pre-import.
Meanwhile, California Spangle led all the way to comfortably win a star-studded dirt trial at Sha Tin on Tuesday morning as he prepares for another clash with star sprinter Ka Ying Rising.
Brenton Avdulla fired Tony Cruz's stable star to the front in the 1,200m heat and he kept on well under little pressure to beat last-start Sha Tin winner Invincible Shield.
Connections and Cruz met to discuss the possibility of retiring California Spangle after his fading sixth in last month's Group One Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (1,400m), but they opted to give him another shot to turn his form around in the Sprint Cup on March 30.
'He trialled just as good as ever – I'm happy with him,' Cruz said.
'We'll see. We're planning for the race at the end of the month – the Sprint Cup. The signs are good.'
Quality miler Galaxy Patch warmed up for the Group Two Chairman's Trophy (1,600m) on March 30 when he ran on strongly from last for third in Tuesday's trial.
Size's Group One placegetter Helios Express, who will take on the likes of Ka Ying Rising and California Spangle in the Sprint Cup, was close behind in fourth.
Group One winner Beauty Eternal, Ensued and Red Lion were under firm holds when they finished towards the rear in the same trial.

For O'Brien it completed an extraordinary two days as Minnie Hauk won the Oaks on Friday and his Jan Brueghel won the other Group One race the Coronation Cup. It is not the first time the 55-year-old has achieved the Oaks/Derby double, last doing it in 2020 with Love (Oaks) and Serpentine. Jockey Wayne Lordan was never challenged in winning his first Derby on his ninth ride in the race considered to be the 'blue riband' of flat racing. None of the other fancied horses landed a blow and it was two outsiders that were closest at the finish – Lazy Griff (50/1) was second with 28/1 chance Tennessee Stud, trained by O'Brien's son Joseph, third. "I knew I'd gone a good gallop, his ears were pricked and I knew he had plenty left," said Lordan. "He's a horse that we've always felt stays well so I just thought anybody that gets to me will have to stay well and it'd be tough for them." Lordan's career was in doubt a couple of years ago after a dreadful fall in the Irish Derby in which he suffered a fractured leg and elbow. Saturday, though, represented his biggest ever victory. "It's one of the greatest races," said the 43-year-old. "For any jockey that wants to start out, all they ever want to do is win the Derby and I work for Aidan, Ballydoyle, Coolmore so I'm in a lucky position that I get to ask for a horse like this." Tom Marquand up for the fight as Dubai Honour aims to halt Voyage Bubble's bid for history
The 27-year-old is hoping to break his Group One duck in Hong Kong on the four-time top-level scorer Tom Marquand has huge respect for Triple Crown-seeking Voyage Bubble but thinks Dubai Honour has the right credentials to give the United Kingdom back-to-back wins in Sunday's Group One Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup (2,400m) at Sha Tin. Marquand and Dubai Honour are yet to win a top-level prize back home but the pair come alive when sent abroad, winning three Group Ones in Sydney and another in France. The Pride Of Dubai galloper finished second in December's Group One Hong Kong Vase (2,400m) and has remained in career-best form since, landing the Group One Tancred Stakes at Rosehill (2,400m) on April 1. Just 11 days later, Dubai Honour ran a mighty race to finish second to superstar mare Via Sistina in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2,000m) and after a month's breather back in the UK, he is back on the road. 'I haven't been massively involved with him since his last run but Issy Paul is basically world-renowned for looking after him now – she does an amazing job,' said Marquand. 'It's been amazing really, to say he's in the form of his life would probably be fair,' said Marquand. 'The mile-and-a-half trip is definitely more his gig now and there was no disgrace going down to a mare of Via Sistina's calibre last start over a trip that was inadequate for him these days. 'With his racing style and the way he's matured – and the way he can switch off during his races – the mile and a half has just become perfect for him. 'That said, you can't forget a horse like Voyage Bubble – he's a horse who performs at a high level all the time and class can stretch a horse through. It would be very naive to think that the distance alone will get him beat. 'Being involved in these types of races is a lot of fun, I – and Dubai Honour, too – have been lucky to clash against some proper champions. It's not quite as fun when you're not winning them, but it's still an enjoyable thing having a horse that's up for the challenge to take on these types of races. 'Dubai Honour and Voyage Bubble are the talking horses and the ones to beat based on the level of form they bring and the consistency. 'You can never forget a Hong Kong Derby winner like Cap Ferrat but I just think the fact these boys can boast top-level form on multiple occasions is what sets them apart and makes them such an attractive match-up.'

Vintage Lockinge headlines fantastic Newbury card, while Doomben 10000 also excites
Group One contest in Britain includes a trio of horses who will mix it at the top table this season Top-class trio Dancing Gemini, Rosallion and Notable Speech will lock horns in a thrilling Group One Lockinge Stakes (1,600m) at Newbury on Saturday. The Roger Teal-trained Dancing Gemini finished second in last year's Group One Poule d'Essai des Poulains (1,600m) at Longchamp and was far from disgraced when sixth in the Epsom Derby (2,000m) on his next start. Top-level success has continued to elude the Camelot galloper, but he has returned this season in career-best form, winning the Listed Doncaster Mile and Group Two Bet365 Mile at Sandown in two appearances this season. One of his biggest dangers will be Group One William Reid Stakes (1,200m) winner Schwarz, who will be ridden by Hong Kong Derby-winning rider Craig Williams in place of regular jockey Blake Shinn. Williams has won the past two runnings of the race on Giga Kick and Bella Nipotina and connections will hope Williams can weave his magic again before Schwarz is retired after the HK$7.33 million showpiece.
