Let state govts implement federal projects, Putrajaya told
PETALING JAYA : Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi has called on the federal government to entrust state governments with implementing federal development projects meant for the people.
Onn Hafiz said 222 projects supposed to be implemented in Johor between 2016 and 2024 have got off the ground. He suggested that the federal government empower state governments to carry out the projects, starting with Johor 'as a pilot project'.
He said some of the stalled projects included hospitals, health clinics, roads and mosques, for which the total cost amounted to RM10 billion, Berita Harian reported.
'And when we enquire about it in meetings, they tell us, 'don't worry, we will check with the relevant ministries and approve'. These are projects that are meant for the 'rakyat', but till today, work has not started on any of them,' he was quoted as saying.
He said it was time for the federal government to entrust the state governments with the task of implementing these projects. Onn Hafiz, who is Johor Umno chief, said his party would bear the brunt when these projects are not realised.

Hajiji: Shahelmey will join us for Sabah polls
PUTATAN: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor confirmed today that his deputy, Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, would be joining his team for the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN17). "He will follow siurang (us)," Hajiji said when asked about Shahelmey's status. Despite his six-year suspension from Umno Sabah in 2023, Shahelmey is still regarded as part of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN), according to Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. The term siurang, a local Sabahan expression meaning "us", refers to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which Hajiji leads. Bung Moktar has repeatedly said that Umno would not nominate Shahelmey again following his decision to support Hajiji and the GRS government in January 2023, after Sabah Umno withdrew its support for the chief minister. Speaking after attending the Youth Programme for Tanjung Aru, Petagas and Tanjung Keramat this afternoon, Hajiji expressed confidence that GRS could capture all three state seats in the Putatan parliamentary constituency in PRN17. He also voiced confidence in Shahelmey, who is also the Putatan MP, to defend the Tanjung Keramat seat, which he won under a BN ticket during the 16th state election (PRN16) in September 2020. "It will not be difficult… he will surely win. He is still the assemblyman, and he is also the member of parliament," Hajiji said. Shahelmey, however, risks losing his eligibility as Putatan MP if he contests under a GRS ticket in PRN17 due to the anti-hopping law, as the parliamentary seat was won under a BN ticket in the 15th General Election (GE15) in November 2022. Earlier in his speech, Hajiji, who is also GRS chairman, said the coalition could secure all three state seats in Putatan if the people remain united in supporting the government. "Putatan is fortunate to have a deputy chief minister and elected representatives who actively serve the people. God willing, in this election GRS will take all three state seats. The people of Putatan must unite to ensure this good government is returned," he said. Currently, the Tanjung Aru state seat is held by opposition party Warisan, while Petagas and Tanjung Keramat are aligned with GRS. In PRN16, Petagas was also won by Warisan, but its assemblyman Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari quit the party in February 2023 to join Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), a GRS component party.

Fadillah urges calm, says early investigation lapses in Zara Qairina case addressed
KUCHING, Aug 17 — The negligence in the initial investigation over Zara Qairina Mahathir's case in Sabah has been addressed, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has assured. According to him, the process after this is further investigation on whether or not any individuals will be charged. 'As Malaysians, let's just leave the matter to the police, and legal action will be taken accordingly. Adding on, Fadillah expressed hope that everyone would continue to show respect for the nation's judiciary system, policing system and the integrity of the health system. 'This is not the time for people to politicise this issue — an act that may jeopardise the prevailing harmony. 'Allow time for the authorities to investigate transparently until a decision is made. 'If there is indeed an injustice involved, we will see to it that a fairer and more transparent action be taken. 'Right now, let this matter take its course since investigations are underway,' he said. The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), on August 8, announced that the girl's body would be exhumed to allow post-mortem to be conducted, stating that further investigations by the police were necessary to ensure that all aspects of the case would be thoroughly examined. — The Borneo Post

Ti Lian Ker wants to save BN, not 'sanitise' PAS like UMNO is sanitising DAP
FORMER MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker has clarified that his recent remarks were not aimed at 'sanitising' PAS, but rather to save BN, which he claims is being buried and replaced with 'UMDAP.' He accused Johor state assembly speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi of twisting his comments on UMNO and PAS Youth. 'Since when did I sanitise PAS?
