RU prof on hunger strike over removal
Jaipur: A senior professor from Rajasthan University's geography department began an indefinite hunger strike outside the vice-chancellor's secretariat Monday. Professor
Mahipal Singh Sihag
alleged that he was removed from the post of head of department within four months of joining in July 2023, while officially, the tenure should be for three years.
He said that the matter is sub-judice, but a junior professor has been appointed as the head of the department.
In a letter to the vice-chancellor Alpana Kateja, Prof Sihag wrote, "…I would like to state that you are continuously trying to humiliate and harass me by appointing Dr Chandra Vijay Dabaria as head department of geography, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur on Oct 4, 2023, in place of myself…"
"The seniormost professor is made the head of the department, which is a rotational post.
After I joined, a false complaint was filed against me due to which I was removed from the post. I approached the courts, but still defying the norms, someone else was made the HOD. I will continue my strike even in this heatwave," said Sihag.
Meanwhile, officials said that all protocols were followed in the selection for the post of HOD. "After Sihag was removed, the then dean of the department was made the HOD, and when the tenure got over, the seniormost professor left was appointed. As the matter is sub-judice, the university cannot take any decision in this regard," said a senior official. tnn

RU launches comparative literature in MA English
Jaipur: In line with the New Education Policy (NEP), Rajasthan University has introduced a new course in comparative literature under its Master of Arts programme in English. The course, launched this academic year by the department of English, integrates Indian texts and regional literature into the traditionally Western-centric syllabus. The revised curriculum includes works by Indian literary figures such as Kalidas and Premchand, along with selected excerpts from the Upanishads, Mahabharata, Ramcharitmanas, Bhagavad Geeta, and Panchatantra. Officials said the aim is to offer students a deeper understanding of Indian culture and literary heritage by examining it alongside Western texts. "This course will give students a chance to read and analyse Indian texts in English and understand how they relate to or differ from Western literature," said Prof Deepa Mathur, head, department of English. She added that this approach aligns with NEP's emphasis on incorporating the Indian knowledge system across disciplines. Prof Mathur said the course opens up diverse career opportunities. "Many of our students, through tie-ups with departments like French and Spanish, are now working abroad as English professors," she said. The course has seen strong demand, with the department receiving nearly 700 applications annually for just 75 available seats. Eligibility requires a Bachelor of Arts degree with a minimum of 48% overall or 55% in the subject chosen for postgraduation. CBI revisits Barmer after court junks closure report on Prajapati ‘encounter'
Jaisalmer: A team from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has set up camp at Barmer circuit house to further investigate the killing of Kamlesh Prajapati by police in an "encounter" on the night of April 22, 2021, in Barmer district. The team has to submit a report before court within two months. On April 16 this year, the ACJM (CBI) court had rejected the CBI's closure report and ordered a murder case to be filed against 24 police personnel, including two IPS officers. Additionally, the court ordered an investigation into the role of then revenue minister and current Baytu MLA Harish Chaudhary and his brother Manish Chaudhary in the alleged encounter. CBI had argued before court that the evidence collected made it difficult to prove that Prajapati was killed in a fake encounter. Prajapati's wife, Jashoda, challenged the closure report. Her lawyer, Arjunsingh Rathore, presented evidence claiming the encounter was fake. He also accused former minister Harish Chaudhary of involvement in the fake encounter. On April 23, 2021, then DSP of Barmer police's SC-ST Cell, Pushpendra Adha, filed a report at Sadar police station stating that Kamlesh Prajapati, a smuggler, was killed in retaliatory police action following a deadly attack by him. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed!
