How Gabby Thomas Uses Fashion To Channel Her 'Alter-Ego' On The Track
The five-time Olympic medalist is nominated for Best Athlete in the Women's Sports category, following the most recent 2024 Paris Olympics, where she won three gold medals. Thomas' ESPY category is being sponsored by TJ Maxx, who is also dressing her for the evening. 'I'm thrilled to be partnering with TJ Maxx because they're so committed to celebrating women like me who are redefining the game and owning who they are,' Thomas says, hinting she'll be wearing an all-white 'bridal-era' look following her recent engagement to Spencer McManes. "I went with something white with some fluffy, feathery finishes."
When speaking about fashion's recent embracing of athletes, Thomas — who has since the Olympics appeared on the cover of Vogue 's Winter Issue and attended the 2025 Met Gala — says that 'this moment for women in sports and fashion is long overdue and very well deserved.' She adds: 'Historically, women in sport have been using self-expression and fashion in their sports. We've seen it in track and field for so long. Think about Flo-Jo [Florence Griffith Joyner] and the impact that she's had, and her style and fashion.'
Today, Thomas uses personal style to set her up for success on the track. 'One of my favorite parts about race day is dressing up and kind of tapping into that alter-ego version of myself. And just tapping into that energy through what I'm wearing, through how I'm doing my hair, and just the whole look,' Thomas says. 'One thing about being in the track community is that when you look good, you feel good, you run good.'
At the ESPYs, Thomas will be in good company, nominated alongside gymnast Simone Biles, basketball player A'ja Wilson, and fellow track and field athlete Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. 'I'm really proud to stand alongside them in showing the world how impactful and powerful women's sports are,' says Thomas. 'It just feels really good to be up there representing our sport. It's something that I've always dreamed of when I was a little girl.'
While she can't control the outcome of who will go on to win the award, Thomas is taking the future of track and field into her own hands. Together with fellow Olympians Sha'Carri Richardson and Tara Davis-Woodhall, she has come on as an adviser-owner of Athlos League, a team-based, women-centric track and field competition set to debut in 2026.
'I've always wanted to leave the sport better than I found it. And the fact that we were able to do that, and also celebrate powerful women and uplift female athletes in the process, it means everything to me,' she says. 'It's going to be such a great opportunity for us athletes in the sport in terms of having competition, in terms of being paid, and just shaking things up a little bit with the new format… [and] to inspire the next generation and show what we can do in sports.'
The 2025 ESPY Awards will be broadcast on ABC at 8 p.m. EST on June 16 and streamed on Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+.

'My wife hung up some pictures of me in my gym of like me winning the Olympic medal, and she put it so high up I can't reach it,' he said. 'I have to get a ladder now, and it bothers me. Like if anything, put up like me in a Masters jacket, like that would piss me off, you know what I mean?' Schauffele has won nine times on the PGA Tour in his career. He won his first two major championships last season, too, including at last year's British Open at Royal Troon. Schauffele enters this week at No. 3 in the Official World Golf Rankings. While he's not won yet this season, he's not missed a single cut and is coming off a T8 finish at the Scottish Open last week. He said he was "pretty close" to being truly comfortable with his swing at The Renaissance Club, too, which was his goal in the lead up to the final major championship of the season. Advertisement Though he got to hold onto the Claret Jug after last year's win — Schauffele said he drank both tequila and wine out of the iconic trophy while celebrating in Portugal — he had to return it to the R&A this summer in exchange for a replica, as is tradition. MLB interested in players participating in LA Olympics, but Games' baseball schedule puts league in July bind
With the 2028 Olympics taking place in Los Angeles, Major League Baseball is interested in its players participating rather than giving way to amateurs like they've previously done. But the LA Olympics baseball schedule puts MLB in a July 2028 bind. Advertisement Baseball, which has not been included in three of the past four Summer Olympics, is scheduled for July 15-20 during the 2028 iteration of the Games, and Dodger Stadium will host, as announced Monday by LA28, the competition's organizing body. Mid-July, of course, is typically when MLB holds its annual All-Star Game. A host city hasn't been announced for the 2028 All-Star Game and its festivities, and neither have corresponding dates, but a potential scheduling conflict is already apparent. If the 2028 All-Star Game follows the cadence of past midsummer classics, it could land right before the Olympic opening ceremony on July 14, as reported by The Athletic's Evan Drellich. In other words, an extended All-Star break could cause a longer pause in the 2028 MLB regular season than the league prefers. "They put out a schedule, they tell you it's not going to move," MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday before this year's All-Star Game, via The Athletic. "We'll see whether there's any movement on that. … It is an opportunity to market the game on a really global stage. We're trying to iron through those logistics." MLB met with Los Angeles organizers Monday in Atlanta ahead of this year's All-Star Game, according to The Associated Press, which also reported that Manfred said Olympic officials were meeting with the MLBPA. Advertisement "There's a lot of work that still needs to be done," MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark told the Baseball Writers' Association of America in a separate interview, per the AP. "We do know players are interested in playing, whether it's for the Team USA or any number of other teams around the world. ... There's just a lot of conversation that needs to be had sooner rather than later to see how viable this is, but we're hopeful that we can figure our way through it for the benefit of the game." Manfred mentioned that MLB clubs are going to have to "endorse" their players taking part in the 2028 Olympics. "I mean, it's a big deal," he said, according to the AP. Advertisement The last time the Summer Olympics included baseball was in 2021 when Tokyo hosted the Games. MLB didn't permit players on 40-man rosters to participate. Meanwhile, Nippon Professional Baseball — Japan's top professional baseball league — halted play, and Japan defeated USA 2-0 in the gold medal game. Both The Athletic and the AP reported that Manfred said a single, extended All-Star break that allows for Olympic participation while still fitting in a 162-game regular-season and a postseason that doesn't go too deep into November is possible. He added, however, that such a plan would "require significant accommodations." Of those accommodations, potential changes to television contracts could be in order, as the league has to consider Fox's All-Star Game broadcasting rights.
