Fiancée of Faster Pussycat singer dies after going overboard on '80s-themed cruise, family says

Yahoo05-03-2025
MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) – Kimberly Burch, the fiancée of an '80s rock star, has died after going overboard an '80s-themed cruise hosted on a Royal Caribbean ship, according to multiple reports.
Her husband-to-be, Faster Pussycat singer Taime Downe, was among the musical acts slated to perform on the cruise, which departed from Miami on Sunday, March 2.
On Monday, the couple posted a selfie together, saying they had made it aboard the cruise. While the exact circumstances of her death remain unclear, Variety obtained a statement from Royal Caribbean Tuesday confirming that local authorities were still searching for Burch's body. Sources who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter also said search operations were launched on Sunday night.

'Our crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort, is working with local authorities, and we are providing support and assistance to the guest's family during this difficult time,' a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean told Nexstar on Wednesday. 'To respect the privacy of our guest's family, we have no additional details to share.'
Burch's family also shared the following post on Facebook Tuesday morning:
'It is with broken hearts that we share the sad news that Kimberly Burch has passed away. She was a beloved daughter, sister, sister-in-law and aunt. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. We ask for prayers during this time for our family as we try to wrap our minds around this heartbreaking tragedy. We love and miss you Kimberly Burch!!'
The U.S. Coast Guard reported that the incident happened just 20 miles from Freeport, Bahamas.
The cruise was scheduled to return to Florida on Sunday, March 9, and included a lineup filled with other '80s artists such as Quiet Riot, The Alarm, From the Jam and FireHouse, as well as MTV personalities Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and Downtown Julie Brown.
Faster Pussycat had performances set for Sunday and Tuesday night.

Downe formed the American glam metal band in 1985 with guitarists Greg Steele and Brent Muscat, as well as bassist Kelly Nickels. The band released four albums, including the popular 'Wake Me When It's Over' (1989), and toured with Mötley Crüe, KISS, and others.

Sylvester Stallone, George Strait tapped for Kennedy Center Honors, Trump to host ceremony

The Kennedy Center Honors will have a startlingly new look this year. The storied cultural institution, which celebrates great American talents each year, will be hosted not by a musical artist or actor, but by the center's new chairman: President Donald Trump. Announcing the honorees for 2025, the president revealed that he had agreed to emcee the event after organizers allegedly begged him to fill the role, arguing he would bring better ratings. The show will air later this year on CBS. "I've been asked to host. I said, 'I am the President of the United States, are you fools asking me to do that?'" he quipped, before confirming that he had agreed to take the stage, and added that he had been successful in the past when hosting the finales of his reality program "The Apprentice." This year's honorees include a close ally of the president, as well as a disco songstress, a Broadway star and a lauded rock band. Here's a rundown of who will wear the rainbow stripes in 2025. Trump names a new head of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in DC: himself George Strait, Michael Crawford lead Kennedy Center noms Trump announced George Strait as the first honoree, joking when an image of the country crooner was displayed that he hoped he still looked that good. Strait is a veteran of the genre known for his vagabond anthems and sweet love songs. Michael Crawford, who originated the role of the phantom in Broadway's "Phantom of the Opera," was the second honoree announced. Trump has not been shy in the past about his love for the production, and revealed in his speech that he had been there the night of Crawford's 1967 Broadway debut. "I think he's one of the greatest talents I've ever actually seen," the president said. Trump ally Sylvester Stallone scores Kennedy Center award Sylvester Stallone, the bawdy "Rocky" star who has aligned with the president in recent years, also scored an honor. Calling him a friend, Trump said at first he wasn't sure whether Stallone would even want to accept the award. "Some people don't really want to be honored, they don't care," the president said, adding that the "Rambo" star had agreed to the honor and lauding his "phenomenal" wife and family. Sylvester Stallone calls Trump 'second George Washington' and a 'mythical character' Gloria Gaynor, KISS round off honoree list In keeping with the culture that may have dominated the president's youth, the honoree list included disco star Gloria Gaynor and rock band KISS as the final two names. Gaynor, who sings "I Will Survive," is the only woman on the list. She broke out in the late '70s and early '80s, bringing powerhouse vocals to the dance themes that dominated the time. "'I Will Survive' is an unbelievable song … it's one of those few that get better every time you hear it," Trump said. KISS, the only multi-member honoree, brought face paint and heavy metal sensibilities to the rock genre in the mid '70s.

Trump Reveals Kennedy Center Honors Recipients

In his first turn as the chief of the Kennedy Center, President Donald Trump decided to honor the Queen of Disco, the King of Country Music, the original Phantom of the Opera, Rocky, and Kiss. The choices of Gloria Gaynor, George Strait, Michael Crawford, and Sylvester Stallone—plus Gloria Gaynor and Kiss—as the recipients of this year's prestigious Kennedy Center Honors signal yet the latest example of Trump putting his thumb on the scale of American culture. Earlier this year, Trump fired the Kennedy Center's board and its chairman and forced out its day-to-day leader. In their place, Trump appointed loyalists, who in turn declared him the chair of the nation's temple to the performing arts. And since then, performers and tours have canceled stops there in protest, and some marquee artistic partners have resigned their roles advising the center on programming choices. And other events, including those around World Pride, saw the curtain coming down before opening night. The result has been what typically was seen as a tribute to the slain 35th President worthy of bipartisan support becoming the latest flashpoint in Trump's never-ending stream of culture-war spats, going so far as to suggest the complex on the Potomac might be better called the 'Kennedy/ Trump Center.' After all, the President and Vice President J.D. Vance have giant portraits hanging at the entrance of the building, along with those of their wives. House Republicans, meanwhile, have proposed renaming the giant Opera House for First Lady Melania Trump. This is a breaking news story and will be updated. Make sense of what matters in Washington.
