Jordan: Intercity bus lines to launch July 31 as part of national transportation restructuring project
The launch marks the completion of the first phase of the intercity public transport restructuring project, which connects Amman to the centres of various governorates, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The Irbid–Amman and Jerash–Amman routes were officially inaugurated on July 1, 2020, with the Karak–Amman route operating on a pilot basis since then. With the upcoming addition of the Salt and Karak lines, the initial phase of the intercity network restructuring will be fully implemented.
During the meeting, Tahtamouni stressed that the intercity restructuring initiative represents a major milestone in the advancement of Jordan's transport sector. "The project features modern buses equipped with electronic tracking systems, real-time monitoring, and automated fare collection. All buses will run at fixed intervals to ensure consistent and efficient service," she added.
Tahtamouni noted that the project is aimed at improving connectivity between Amman and the governorates, reducing dependence on private vehicles, and helping to ease traffic congestion.
She added that the successful completion of this phase marks a crucial step in the execution of the National Transport Strategy, which envisions a smart, integrated, and sustainable public transport system. The strategy is designed to support both economic and environmental goals while accommodating the country's growing urban population.

Networking 11 cities and regions The passenger stations in Dubai and Fujairah will serve as key hubs within the national railway network once operations commence next year. Once operational, the passenger service will connect 11 cities and regions, from Al Sila to Fujairah, linking key urban centres and communities across the emirates. Etihad Rail trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 kmph, with the first four passenger stations located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. Over a million Dubai residents to benefit from RTA's new Umm Suqeim tunnel
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have opened an 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction, as part of the Umm Suqeim Street Development Project, which will serve residential and development areas with a population exceeding one million. This extends from the intersection with Al Khail Road to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and will reduce travel time from 9.7 minutes to 3.8 minutes – almost 61 per cent – and increases the capacity of Umm Suqeim Street to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. Key RTA project Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA: 'The project enhances connectivity between four strategic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. 'It increases the capacity of Umm Suqeim Street to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and reduces travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road by 61 per cent, from 9.7 minutes to 3.8 minutes.' The project serves residential and development zones, including Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, Dubai Hills, Arjan, and Dubai Science Park, with a total population exceeding one million residents. 'Umm Suqeim-Al Qudra Corridor Improvement Project is one of RTA's key strategic transverse (east-west) traffic corridors, designed to enhance integration with vertical (north-south) road corridors,' Al Tayer said. Qatari-Saudi cooperation in field of maritime transport and shipping sector discussed
DOHA: The Qatar Chamber (QC) participated in the Qatari-Saudi workshop on the transport, shipping, and maritime sector, held in Riyadh yesterday. The Qatari delegation was headed by Eng. Ali bin Abdul Latif Al-Misnad, Board Member and Chairman of the Services Committee and the Qatari Committee for Shipping and Supply. The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, The Permanent Committee for the Management of Seaportsat the Ministry of Interior, the General Authority of Customs, Mwani Qatar, Milaha, QTerminals, and Gulf Warehousing Company. The Saudi side was headed by Hamad Al-Shuwaier, Head of the Saudi side of the Qatari-Saudi Joint Business Council. The workshop discussed bilateral cooperation in the transport and shipping sector and ways to develop and enhance it, encouraging Saudi companies to take advantage of the benefits offered by Hamad Port in maritime shipping. Presentations were delivered during the workshop by Milaha, GWC, and Mwani Qatar. Eng. Ali bin Abdul Latif Al-Misnad stated that the private sector in both countries is a key pillar for strengthening cooperation, expanding partnerships, and building a more integrated and prosperous economic future. He noted that there are broad areas of cooperation in transport, shipping, and maritime services, especially in light of the advanced facilities and high-quality services provided by the State of Qatar—particularly in transit (transshipment) operations through Hamad Port, one of the most modern and significant ports in the region in terms of infrastructure, efficiency, and speed of operations. Al-Misnad called on Saudi companies to capitalize on the facilities and services offered by the State to support shipping and logistics operations, which will enhance the smooth flow of goods and expand access to regional and international markets through an advanced and secure logistics gateway. He pointed out that shipping from Hamad Port to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia takes no more than five hours.
