BTS' RM & V's comeback: Jin crashes their first live post-military discharge, J-Hope gives inside glimpse of celebrations at HYBE — watch
BTS is back! In case you missed it, two of the group's members, RM and V, were officially discharged from their mandatory military service today (June 10). K-pop fans, especially ARMYs, have been lighting up Twitter (now X) with celebration posts ever since the news broke.
Soon after greeting the press, RM and V went live on the South Korean fan platform Weverse to connect with fans. In classic BTS fashion, their live was hilariously crashed by Jin, while J-Hope shared an Instagram Story offering a sneak peek at the joyful celebration inside HYBE.
RM and V hold a Weverse live after military discharge
Keeping with K-pop tradition, RM and V went live on Weverse shortly after reaching HYBE — their first livestream in over 1.5 years. The two looked relaxed but admitted it felt a little awkward jumping back in.
🐯: We are also doing this live after 1.5 years so there is something ARMYs should understand.. we don't know what to talk about🐨 : Ah really? Because you have turned into a murderous weapon?🐯 No, not that. pic.twitter.com/NJPIvjxyM3
'We don't know what to talk about,' Taehyung laughed, before adding, 'I worked out six times a week to get healthier. I'm proud of myself — it all feels worth it.' He joked about being too sleepy to dance today, explaining he woke up early to reduce swelling before the live. 'I'll think about dancing after some sleep,' he added.
RM teased, 'The military really changed you,' to which V responded, 'Yes, I've transformed into a murderous weapon,' prompting laughs. RM quipped, 'That'll last about a month,' and V agreed, 'Yeah, I'll go back to normal eventually.'
Taehyung also revealed that his MBTI had changed and that he's become less tolerant of injustice lately. Meanwhile, RM got candid about his creative slump. 'This is the first time I didn't write any music for such a long period,' he shared. He promised ARMYs he'd return later that night to talk more deeply.
Jin crashes RM and V's live
In true Kim Seokjin fashion, the eldest BTS member crashed RM and V's livestream — and he didn't come empty-handed. Jin showed up with a big smile and a ribbon tied around his head, joking that he was the 'gift.' He couldn't help but compliment RM and V on their physiques, playfully adding that he'd avoid picking any fights with them now.

J-Hope shares glimpse of HYBE staff's celebrations
Meanwhile, in another heartwarming moment, J-Hope, who was the second BTS member to complete his military service after Jin, gave fans a peek into the celebration at HYBE. In an Instagram Story filled with his signature laughter, Hobi filmed the staff warmly welcoming RM and V. The two stood in the centre of a cheering circle, receiving flowers and smiles from everyone around them.

BTS stars Jimin and Jung Kook discharged from military service ahead of reunion- WATCH
K-pop superstars Jimin and Jung Kook, the youngest members of BTS, were officially discharged from South Korea's mandatory military service on Wednesday. Clad in military uniforms, the duo saluted and greeted a crowd of devoted fans and reporters who had gathered to welcome them outside the army base. 'Actually, it's been so long since I've been in front of cameras, and I didn't even put on makeup, so I'm a bit embarrassed,' Jung Kook admitted with a laugh. 'I don't know what to say.' The two won hearts with their 'shy' reactions to all the attention. The boys, who were presented with large bouquets, at one point, hid their faces behind the flowers and laughed it out. Jimin and Jung Kook enlisted together in December 2023, just one day after their bandmates RM and V began their service. RM and V were discharged on Tuesday, receiving an equally emotional send-off from fans who lined the streets of Chuncheon City to cheer them on. V, addressing fans following his release, expressed gratitude for their enduring support and hinted at the group's long-anticipated reunion. 'If you can just wait a little bit longer, we will return with a really amazing performance,' he said. With Wednesday's discharge, six of BTS's seven members have now completed their national duties. Jin, the group's eldest, was the first to be discharged in June 2024, followed by J-Hope in October the same year. The only remaining member currently in service is Suga, who has been serving as a social service agent, an alternative form of military duty. His discharge is expected later this month. Back in 2020, the BTS boys were under the radar after an amendment to the Military Service Act allowed them members to delay enlistment until age 30 in recognition of their global cultural impact. In 2022, after widespread public debate over whether the band should be granted a full exemption, the group's management, BigHit Music, announced that all seven members would fulfil their national obligations, ending speculation and winning praise for their civic commitment. HYBE has hinted at a BTS comeback this year, but has also said the members "need time for reflection and preparation". "Normally, the process goes from song production to album release, then a tour," Lee Jae-sang, CEO of HYBE, told a shareholder meeting in March. "But since BTS have already become global top-tier artists, we are continuing discussions about their vision and what's next," he added.

Toying around: Indians on the recent Labubu toy trend
If you've been doomscrolling through social media lately, chances are you've encountered the cute, yet eerie face of Labubu — the plush toy that the Internet is currently hooked on. Hanging from Ananya Panday's designer bag, featured on popular K-pop star Lisa's live streams, or unboxing videos of influencers trying to get a hold of the rare one they want, it is everywhere. 'Labubu has been popular in the Far East but has now become a global phenomenon. The past two months have seen a huge surge in their demand in India,' says Zohara Jamal, a popular lifestyle content creator. Subhashree Panneerselvam, a Chennai resident who recently visited Vietnam, corroborates. 'When I visited, I noticed Labubu toys being sold, especially at a store located inside a theme park. But I didn't know of the trend until I saw a reel on Instagram upon coming back. I regretted not having purchased one,' she shares. Fondly called 'ugly-cute' by fans, Labubu is a collectible character designed by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung in 2015. Inspired by Nordic mythology, the character was initially featured in Lung's picture book series The Monsters, where Labubu is depicted as a mischievous, elf-like creature, with a toothy grin and a playful demeanour. Later, it gained widespread popularity through a collaboration with Chinese toy company Pop Mart, which introduced the character as part of its blind box collectible series — a popular release in which each toy is sold in a sealed package. Nikhil Jain, who resells these collectibles online under the banner Hype and collectibles, adds, 'Tier 1 cities in India — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad — are blowing up now and ordering the toy. From Chennai, in fact, I get orders every day.' In the last six months, Hype and collectibles alone has sold around thousand Labubu toys and Nikhil estimates that at least one lakh Labubu toys could have been sold across online platforms, in India. Ayesha Alikhan, a psychologist, who has noticed people jumping on the bandwagon, says, 'I've been seeing many influencers carrying these dolls. I've also seen many kids as well as middle-aged women at UB City walking around with the dolls in their bags.' However, when the trend is assessed by the prices these toys fetch, India appears to be trailing behind the global craze. Dakshin Adyantha, co-founder (brand communications) of Ethinos, who has collected four Labubu toys so far from Mumbai, notes, 'The toys are priced as low as `3,000, which is still accessible to many. It is only when the demand surges will the prices go up further. That is how it works with collectables.'
