McTominay scores stunner to fire Napoli to Serie A title success

Scott McTominay completed a brilliant first season in Italy by scoring the opening goal as Napoli clinched their fourth Serie A title in the final game of the campaign.
The former Manchester United midfielder scored a stunning scissor kick three minutes before half-time as Napoli saw off Cagliari 2-0 to beat Inter Milan to the Scudetto by one point.
Napoli had drawn their last two games to allow Inter back into the title race and anything other than a win on Friday would have opened the door for Simone Inzaghi's side to retain the trophy.
Inter did their job by beating in-form Como 2-0 and led the table for 22 minutes after Stefan de Vrij's first-half header put them into the lead, while Napoli wasted a number of chances at a nervy Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
But McTominay acrobatically fired in his 12th goal of his debut Serie A campaign to start the celebrations across Naples.
Former United team-mate Romelu Lukaku added a superb second soon after half-time to settle any remaining nerves.
Antonio Conte, in a first season in charge which saw striker Victor Osimhen leave in September and star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia join Paris St Germain in January, lifted his sixth major league title as a manager following successful spells with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter.
Conte was not on the touchline for Friday's decisive game as he served a touchline ban after being sent off during last weekend's 0-0 stalemate with Parma.
Inter boss Inzaghi was also in the stands for the finale after he saw red in Inter's dramatic 2-2 draw with Lazio.
His side had few problems in sweeping aside Cesc Fabregas' Como, whose eight-match unbeaten run came to an end.
De Vrij headed them ahead before ex-Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina saw red on the stroke of half-time in his final game as a professional.
Joaquin Correa added another for Inter, but almost simultaneously Lukaku's strike in Naples ended the Nerazzurri's challenge.
But they can still end the season with major silverware as they face PSG in the Champions League final a week on Saturday.

A statement on Al Hilal's official website said: 'The board of directors of Al Hilal Club Company, headed by His Excellency Mr Fahd bin Saad bin Nafel, has completed the contracting procedures with the Italian coach Simone Inzaghi, coming from the Italian club Inter Milan to lead the technical helm of Al Hilal first football team. 'This is with a two-year contract until the end of the 2026/2027 sports season. 'Inzaghi will soon begin supervising the first team's training at the club's headquarters in Riyadh in preparation for the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States of America, which will begin on Sunday, June 15. 'Al Hilal will face Real Madrid in its first match in the tournament, which will be held on Wednesday, June 18, in Miami, USA.' Inzaghi left his job at the San Siro on Tuesday following Saturday's 5-0 Champions League final defeat by Paris St Germain in Munich. Fabregas believes in ‘long-term' Como project amid Inter links
PA Media/dpa London Cesc Fabregas appeared to commit his future to Como amidst reports linking him with Inter Milan, stating he believes in the 'long-term project' at last season's Serie A newcomers. The former Arsenal and Spain midfielder guided the team to an impressive 10th-place finish in their first top-flight campaign for 21 years helped by a club-record six-match winning run between April and May. A first season in senior management for the 38-year-old ended with his reputation as a head coach significantly raised, reportedly catching the eye of Inter who are without a manager after Simone Inzaghi departed this week in the aftermath of Saturday's 5-0 Champions League final loss to Paris Saint Germain. 'I really believe in the Como project,' Fabregas said at the SXSW event taking place in London, as reported by La Gazzetta della Sport. 'I started with this club because I was thinking about a long-term project. I don't want to finish my career at a club where there's a project for one or two years and then everything ends.' Fabregas, who is a minority shareholder of the club, joined Como as a player in 2022 and played out the final year of his career with the club in Serie B. After retiring the following summer, he joined the coaching staff, briefly taking charge of the first team as caretaker after boss Moreno Longo was sacked. Welsh coach Osian Roberts took charge for the remainder of the promotion-winning season while Fabregas completed his UEFA coaching qualifications, with the World Cup and Champions League-winner taking over last summer. 'I really believe in Como's long-term project,' he said. 'I arrived here as a player and I'm very, very happy because I get to work in the way that I want. We have the same goals and the same ambition. 'The President allows me to work the way I want, the way I see things. Fortunately, we share the same vision and have the same goal, which is to go as far as possible. 'We've become a really good team together, in a small town, in a small club but with big, very big ambitions for the future.' Inter meanwhile have signed Croatia international Petar Sucic from Dinamo Zagreb. The midfielder, who has seven international caps, played last season on loan at Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar.

AFC Kuala Lumpur Paris Saint-Germain's Lee Kang-in has become the second Korea Republic international to win the UEFA Champions League after his side routed Italian side Inter 5-0. The 24-year-old follows in the footsteps of Park Ji-sung, who won the 2008 trophy with Manchester United. Korea Republic international midfielder Lee Kang-in closed his 2024-25 season by winning a historic quadruple with PSG after they claimed the Champions League, the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup and French Super Cup.
