The veteran actor revealed that he learned about the director's demise only when the media reached out to him, and he still struggles to process the loss. Jayaram shared that the news left him speechless, as Shaji was not only a remarkable filmmaker but also someone who left a lasting impact on Malayalam cinema . Cherished memories of ' Swapaanam ' Recalling their collaboration in a chat with Manorama Online, Jayaram reflected on playing the lead in 'Swapaanam' (2014), directed by Shaji N. Karun. Karun placed immense trust in him, guiding him through the emotional and musical nuances of the character. 'He made me rehearse every type of melam that Kesavan had played and ensured I could perform them before shooting,' Jayaram shared. This immersive process reflected Shaji's commitment to truth in storytelling. Shaji N. Karun's global impact on Malayalam cinema Describing the filmmaker's death as an irreparable loss to the Malayalam industry, Jayaram stated, 'Shaji sir was one of the rare filmmakers who carried Malayalam cinema to an international audience. Alongside legends like Adoor Gopalakrishnan, he brought global recognition to our art. I don't think I will ever get an opportunity like Swapaanam again. That experience and his faith in me—those are things I will carry forever.'
