Nitish promises 1 cr jobs, skill varsity
Assembly polls in Bihar are to be held in October-November and NDA allies have already declared that the election would be contested under Nitish's leadership. Nitish's announcement for one crore jobs and employment opportunities came barely days after state cabinet approved a proposal to set up Bihar Youth Commission, apparently to target young voters.
'It has been our vision to ensure that more and more youths in the state receive government jobs and employment opportunities. Between 2005 and 2020, over eight lakh youths in the state were provided with government jobs.
We resolved to provide government jobs to 10 lakh youth and employment to 10 lakh people in 2020 under the good governance programme, 'Saat Nischay-2'. Later, this target was increased to provide jobs to 12 lakh youths and employment to 38 lakh people by August 2025, setting a total target of 50 lakh jobs/employment opportunities,' Nitish wrote on 'X'.
'The target of providing government jobs/employment to over 50 lakh youth will certainly be achieved. In this
context, for the next five years (2025 to 2030), we are setting a target to double the goal fixed for 2020-2025 by providing government jobs and employment opportunities to one crore youths,' he said.
'To achieve this, new job and employment opportunities will also be created in the private sector, particularly in industrial areas. For this purpose, a high-level committee is being constituted. Currently, the youth of the state are being provided with skill development training to connect them with self-employment opportunities under the Saat Nischay programme,' the CM added.

A stormy monsoon session up ahead From the look of it, the monsoon session of the Parliament commencing on Monday is likely to be stormy. At the same time, the members should ensure that it does not become yet another washout. Obviously, Operation Sindoor will figure prominently in this session. The government will find itself in a difficult situation when the Opposition raises Donald Trump's claim that he brokered a truce between India and Pakistan using a trade deal as a bait and his revelation that five jets were shot down. The Centre must show intestinal fortitude to summon the US ambassador and register its protest against Trump's 'claims'. The government should not refuse to divulge information which the people have a right to know on the pretext of safeguarding 'national interest'. For all the triumphalism over the Operation Sindoor, the government will have to admit its failure to nab the perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre. On the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Bihar, questions will be hurled at the government thick and fast. On the foreign policy front, India's open alignment with Israel has depleted its moral authority on the world stage. The Parliament may also see heated exchanges over the new education policy and imposition of Hindi. Delimitation is another thorny issue the Parliament will have to grapple with. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be a vigorous participant in the debates and make them lively without recrimination. To the extent possible, he should avoid foreign visits when the House is in session. G. The fierce debate will likely end in chaos with members jumping into the well, suspensions, adjournments, all of which are a waste of taxpayers' money. Parliament sessions are becoming increasingly unproductive and being held as a mere obligation defeating the very purpose of the Constitution. Instead, all members must rise above party lines and work towards constructive discussions. The nation expects meaningful debates, not mere disruptions. Even mild showers cause flooding due to blocked or undersized drains. Many natural water sinks have been lost to unregulated construction, thereby reducing the capacity to absorb excess rainwater. Moreover, the government actions are reactive, not proactive, while officials don't believe in the once bitten twice shy adage. Coordination among GHMC, HYDRAA, and other agencies is inconsistent, particularly during peak monsoon. Structural reforms like drain expansion and lake restoration remain slow or stalled. There is a need to expand stormwater drains, increase manhole coverage, reclaim and protect lakes to serve as flood buffers and involve Resident Welfare Associations in flood preparedness. Dr O. Prasada Rao,Hyderabad No use of plastic in AP In Saturday's round of Swara Andra and Swatch Andra (SASA), the Andhra Pradesh government started a good initiative by campaigning against plastic use, especially single use plastic (SUP) across the state. In fact, plastic has become a way of life as people are using it for every chore, including during marriages, birthday parties and political meetings, least concerned that they are adversely impacting everyone's health. Efforts by the government and NGOs calling upon people to stop using plastic have not borne fruit. Unfortunately, even reuse and recycling of plastic has been below the expected levels. Now that the Andhra Pradesh government is determined to eliminate plastic use in the Secretariat by August 15 and stamp it out in its entirety across 17 municipal corporations by Gandhi Jayanthi, one must join the movement against plastic use. 08:16 (IST) Jul 21 BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Sunday asserted that the NDA government has consistently shown a willingness to debate every issue raised in Parliament over the past 11 years. He criticised the Opposition for avoiding meaningful discussion, stating, "In the last 11 years, the BJP and NDA have discussed almost every issue that the opposition and the ruling side wanted to discuss in the House. The opposition looks for excuses to avoid discussion... I would say that we are ready to discuss all issues related to the public and the country... The opposition often shies away from debate." Speaking in Punjab's Bathinda, Thakur responded to queries regarding PM Modi's absence from the all-party meeting held in New Delhi, emphasising that the Prime Minister always attends Parliament when necessary. "Whenever any question related to PM Modi arises in Parliament, he is present in the House... If the Prime Minister has to attend any important meeting, it is in the interest of the nation," he stated. Thakur noted that this year's Monsoon Session, from 21 July to 21 August, was extended beyond the usual August 15 end date to allow for more debate and legislative business. PM Modi is expected to address the media before the session begins.

‘SIR will ensure rights of genuine voters'
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, MoS in the PMO, and MoS for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy, and Department of Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, criticised the Opposition for creating confusion over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In a free-wheeling interview with Rajesh Kumar Thakur, he accused them of misleading the public out of fear of losing ineligible votes. Excerpts: Opposition is united against SIR being carried out in poll-bound Bihar, accusing your government of using it to drop voters from other parties. What do you have to say? These are untrue and baseless allegations made by the Opposition out of fear and frustration over losing the support of undeserving voters. The SIR, which is now being carried out successfully in Bihar, is not intended to remove people from voting lists but to ensure that voting rights are upheld for genuine voters. The Opposition currently has no agenda other than opposing initiatives that are in the larger interest of the nation or individual states. Will voter names' removal under SIR hurt NDA's poll chances in Bihar? Absolutely not. It is not designed to prevent anyone from exercising their voting rights but to ensure that only genuine voters participate. The people of Bihar are highly aware and understand the benefits of such an exercise, and they will not be misled by the Opposition. The NDA will not face any negative electoral consequences; in fact, it is the Opposition—which has been exploiting the inclusion of ineligible voters without proper documentation—that is alarmed by SIR.
