Local shotput thrower sets best mark in the state
GREENVILLE, Pa (WKBN) – Greenville senior track & field thrower Maggie Goodlin has made a name for herself across Pennsylvania.
'Like this is go time, it's time to do what you do,' said Goodlin.
Goodlin achieved a mark of 42 feet 5 inches at the 60th Butler Invitational in mid-April which shot her to the best shotput throw this season across all of PIAA 2A.
'I try not to think, I try to think as little as possible because I don't want to get in my head,' said Goodlin.
The Greenville star started the sport when she was in seventh grade. Now she has placed fourth and third in shotput at states the past two seasons for the Trojans.
She is also the back-to-back District 10 Champion in shotput. Goodlin has also committed to Youngstown State University for track & field.
'Obviously I wanted to pursue this in college, so just to know that it was official, I think it kind of took some of the pressure off,' said Goodlin.
The Greenville senior said in the same meet before her record throw, she broke the school record in the shotput.
'We made it to finals and I threw 40 feet, then I had broke the school record with 41 feet, and then I think I just was ready to go,' said Goodlin. 'Then I threw the 42-5, I didn't catch it at first, I was like, is that what he said? I just was definitely excited.'
Goodlin said she hopes to compete for a state title at the end of this season and place for the third year in a row.
'I don't even know how to put it into words, I just know that I get to come here after school every day, throw, compete,' said Goodlin. 'It's just one of the best feelings in the world to rip out a big throw.'
