Egyptian President issues urgent call to Trump over Gaza

Roya News28-07-2025
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi urged US President Donald Trump on Monday to take all necessary steps to stop the war in Gaza and ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.
In a televised speech, El-Sisi addressed Trump, saying: 'I make a direct call to you, please do everything you can to stop this war and allow aid in. I believe the time has come to end this suffering.' He added that the US President has the power to halt the violence and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
El-Sisi emphasized Egypt's long-standing support for the Palestinian people, stating, 'Egypt cannot be neutral on Palestinian issues. We remain committed to offering support sincerely and honestly.' He also reaffirmed Egypt's efforts to find practical solutions to end the war.
The Egyptian president also clarified the role of the Rafah border crossing, saying it is designated for pedestrian traffic and that its operation also depends on the Palestinian side. He explained that Gaza typically requires between 600 and 700 aid trucks per day, and that Egypt is fully prepared to deliver aid, with a large number of trucks already ready and waiting.
He stressed that there are no obstacles on the Egyptian side preventing the entry of aid, but emphasized the importance of the crossing being operational on the Palestinian side to maintain the steady flow of supplies.
El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's firm position rejecting the forced displacement of Palestinians, warning that such efforts would undermine the viability of a two-state solution.
He also noted Egypt's coordination with Qatar and the United States to find a resolution to the conflict, ensure the delivery of aid, and secure the release of captives. El-Sisi urged the international community to act swiftly to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Hamas responds to 'Israel's' decision to occupy Gaza City

Hamas today condemned the 'Israeli' Security Cabinet's decision to occupy Gaza City, calling the plan a "new war crime" that its military intends to commit against the city and its population of nearly one million people. In a press statement, Hamas said the cabinet's approved plans constitute a "full-fledged war crime" and a continuation of 'Israel's' policy of 'genocide, forced displacement, and brutal practices that amount to ethnic cleansing" against the Palestinian people. Hamas asserted that Israel's use of the term "control" instead of "occupation" is a transparent attempt to "evade its legal responsibility for the consequences of its brutal crime against civilians." The statement said the plan represents an implicit admission that it violates the Geneva Conventions and poses a direct threat to the lives of nearly one million Palestinians in the city. Hamas added it has shown "all necessary flexibility and positivity" to the Egyptian and Qatari mediators and would not hesitate to take steps toward a 'comprehensive deal' to release all 'Israeli' captives in exchange for an end to the war and the withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces. Earlier today, 'Israel's' security cabinet has approved a plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the military to "take control" of Gaza City, his office said in a statement Friday. Under the plan to "defeat" Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the 'Israeli' army "will prepare to take control of Gaza City while distributing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population outside combat zones", it said. Nearly two years into the war in Gaza, the 'Israeli' prime minister faces mounting pressure at home and abroad for a truce to pull the Palestinian territory's more than two million people back from the brink of famine and to spare captives held by Hamas. As he convened his security cabinet on Thursday, Netanyahu said 'Israel' planned to take full control of Gaza but did not intend to govern it. Ahead of the meeting, Netanyahu told US network Fox News that the government intended to seize complete control of the Gaza Strip. He added that Israel did not want "to keep" the Gaza Strip, which 'Israel' occupied in 1967 but withdrew troops and settlers from in 2005. Netanyahu said 'Israel 'wanted a "security perimeter" and to hand the Palestinian territory to "Arab forces that will govern it properly without threatening us and giving Gazans a good life."

'Israel', Egypt sign record $35 billion gas deal

Partners in 'Israel's' Leviathan offshore natural gas field have signed a $35 billion agreement to increase gas exports to Egypt. The deal, which is the largest export agreement in 'Israel's' history, will see approximately 130 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas supplied to Egypt through 2040. This transaction comes at a time when diplomatic relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv are at their lowest point in years due to the ongoing Gaza aggression. Yossi Abu, CEO of NewMed Energy, which holds 45.34% of the Leviathan reservoir, said the deal will fund the necessary infrastructure expansion to ensure a stable domestic gas supply until at least 2064. The deal is also expected to generate hundreds of millions of shekels in state revenue from royalties and taxes. Egypt's domestic gas production has been in sharp decline, falling from a peak of 71 bcm in 2021 to just 45 bcm in 2024, largely due to reduced output from its primary Zohr field. This energy deficit has led to expensive liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports and planned rolling blackouts that have sparked public anger in the country. The new agreement, signed with Egypt's Blue Ocean Energy (BOE), is set to eventually triple the amount of gas 'Israel' exports to its neighbor annually. The implementation of the deal is a phased process that is contingent on significant infrastructure projects, including a third pipeline to the Leviathan platform and new transmission pipelines to Egypt. The first phase, involving 20 bcm of gas, is expected to begin in the first half of 2026, while the second phase, for the remaining 110 bcm, will follow the completion of the broader Leviathan expansion project. Legal experts argue that a pipeline central to the deal, which runs through Palestinian maritime zones, breaches international law because it was constructed without the consent or compensation of the Palestinian Authority. Furthermore, the Leviathan field, operated by a consortium including NewMed Energy, Chevron, and Ratio Energies, has been identified as a "carbon bomb" with the potential to emit 1.06 billion tons of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. The operator has also faced scrutiny for attempting to halt air quality monitoring near its platform, a move reversed only after public and environmental pressure .

'Israeli' army will 'take control' of Gaza City: Netanyahu's office

'Israel's' security cabinet has approved a plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the military to "take control" of Gaza City, his office said in a statement Friday. Netanyahu said 'Israel 'wanted a "security perimeter" and to hand the Palestinian territory to "Arab forces that will govern it properly without threatening us and giving Gazans a good life." "That's not possible with Hamas," he added. His office on Friday said a majority of the security cabinet had adopted "five principles for concluding the war: the disarming of Hamas; the return of all hostages -- living and dead; the demilitarisation of the Gaza Strip; Israeli security control in the Gaza Strip; the establishment of an alternative civil administration that is neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority. "A decisive majority of security cabinet ministers believed that the alternative plan that had been submitted to the security cabinet would neither achieve the defeat of Hamas nor the return of the hostages," it added, without giving further details. An expanded 'Israeli' offensive in Gaza could see ground troops operate in densely populated areas where captives are believed to be held, Hebrew media reported. The reported plans to expand the war have sparked growing concern in 'Israel' about what it means for the remaining captives. As the cabinet meeting kicked off, hundreds rallied near the prime minister's office in Jerusalem, calling for a deal to free the captives. Hamas in a statement said that "Netanyahu's plans to escalate the aggression confirm beyond any doubt his desire to get rid of the captives and sacrifice them in pursuit of his personal interests and extremist ideological agenda." Ahead of Thursday's meeting, rumours have been rife in the 'Israeli' press about disagreements between the cabinet and 'Israel's' military chief Eyal Zamir, who is said to oppose plans to fully reoccupy Gaza. Defence Minister Israel Katz weighed in on social media Wednesday, saying the military must ultimately respect any policies adopted by the government.
