M7, Qatar's hub for innovation in fashion, design, and technology, has announced the opening of the registration for 'Mastering Hair', an exclusive hairstyling masterclass led by renowned celebrity stylist Ilham Mestour. Running from August to November 2025, the course will equip stylists with the skills and confidence to create both classic and modern looks for VIP clients and red-carpet events, mentored by one of the industry's most respected names. Registration is now open until August 10, 2025.
The masterclass is designed for hairstylists looking to elevate their craft and step into the world of red-carpet styling. Guided by celebrity stylist Ilham Mestour, participants will gain in-depth, practical knowledge through theoretical learning, live demonstrations, and on-set experience. The programme covers VIP Protocols—covering expectations, etiquette, and adaptability under pressure—along with Classic & Modern Styling Techniques such as Old Hollywood Glamour and The Chignon, and Portfolio Development through an editorial campaign and a professional photoshoot.
Ilham Mestour, artistic director of Balmain Hair Couture, is a Moroccan-born stylist, based in the Netherlands. Mestour has shaped the looks of global icons such as Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Doutzen Kroes, Imaan Hammam, Farida Khelfa, Lara Stone, Michele Lamy, and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands. Formerly Artistic Director at Keune Hair Cosmetics, she has transformed hairstyling into an art form with her technical skills and creative vision. Her work has featured in leading fashion publications including Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Harper's Bazaar, and she has collaborated on campaigns for major fashion houses and brands such as Casablanca, Iris van Herpen, Alaïa, Bulgari, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein.
The programme will be conducted in both English and Arabic, through a combination of online sessions and in-person workshops at M7. Modules include:
Session 1: Foundations of Red-Carpet Hair - An online programme kick-off session exploring red-carpet trends across Hollywood and the MENA region. You'll also dive into VIP styling etiquette and core principles of hair design, including proportion, balance, and harmony.
Session 2: Hands-On Masterclass - A four-day, in-person intensive focused on putting theory into practice with styling techniques.

Renowned Qatar-based writer Asif Shafi publishes second edition of his bilingual poetry collection

Well known and acclaimed Qatar-based poet Asif Shafi has released the second edition of his bilingual poetry collection Strangers for Centuries (Sadiyun Se Ajnabi) featuring verses in both English and Urdu. The 144-page collection, featuring 63 selected poems and ghazals by Asif, has been published by Zarbaft Publications, Lahore. First published in 2011, the book has been translated into English by noted writer Salim Ahmad Siddiqi. Asif has dedicated the book to his beloved wife, Ainy Asif. 'In the second edition, we have exclusively included remarks from renowned scholars and writers such as Professor So Yamane of Osaka University, Japan; Dr Ali Bayat, Associate Professor in the Department of Urdu Language and Literature, University of Tehran, Iran; Prof Dr Anwar Rizwi, former Chairperson of the Department of Persian, Aligarh Muslim University, India; and Dr Nazia Jaffo Khan. The rest of the content remains unchanged,' remarked Asif who hails from Dharanawala city in District Bahawalnagar in Pakistan. Asif is celebrated as a distinctive and sensitive poet, renowned for his evocative exploration of love, separation, reflection, and emotion. This collection transcends mere translation—it stands as a profound literary endeavor to convey the delicate essence of love to a global audience. Over a creative journey spanning three decades, Asifhas consistently placed love and the spectrum of human emotions at the heart of his poetic expression. Reimagining these themes in a contemporary context, his work reflects a delicate aesthetic, emotional authenticity, and intellectual depth—qualities that collectively offer a renewed dimension to the landscape of Urdu poetry. Asif is a professional planning engineer who graduated from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, in 1997. He began his career at Petrochemical Industries in Faisalabad, where he served for over eight years. Prior to relocating to Qatar, he gained valuable experience working in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Asif, who published his first collection of critical essays at the age of 24, regards engineering as his profession but holds poetry close as his true passion. His first poetry book Zara Jo Tum Thahar Jatay comprising ghazals and nazms was published in 1998. His other publications include Teray Humrah Chalna Hai; Koi Phool Dil Main Khila Nahi; Juda Hona Hee Parta Hai; Piyar Sazawan; and Kabhi Waqt Milay Tu Aa Jao. Asif's ghazals have been sung by famous Bollywood singers like Penaz Masani, Vaishali Samant, Pooja Gaitonde and Rafique Sheikh. The album of his ghazals has been named after his book 'Kabhi Waqt Milay Tu Aa Jao' and recorded at Buzz In Recording Studio, Vile Parle East, Mumbai, India. Pakistan's Urdu magazine Zarbaft dedicated a 212-page special edition to the literary achievements of Asif in2018. The special edition of the magazine was published by Faiz Academy, Narowal, Pakistan comprising Asif's selected work and articles written by men of letters on Asif. Asif Shafi's literary contributions have inspired academic research, with MPhil theses written by Azam Jamshed of Minhaj University, Lahore; Mohammad Ahmed Shakir from the Urdu Department at Sargodha University; and Fauzia Rasheed of Government College University, Faisalabad.

Ashraf Siddiqui In celebration of the Year of Culture Qatar-Argentina 2025, Art, Fashion and Cultural Diplomacy (AFCD), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova, organized a vibrant and inspiring Doodling Watercolour Workshop in Doha. The event was a creative tribute to the ongoing cultural exchange and friendship between Qatar and Argentina. The workshop brought together a distinguished group of participants, primarily spouses and daughters of ambassadors residing in Qatar. The attendees were warmly welcomed by HE Iulian Grigorita, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the State of Qatar. He was joined by Farhan Al Sheikh Al Sayed, Founder and Patron of AFCD, and Ms. Rodica Grigorita, Secretary General of AFCD, and spouse of Moldovan envoy to Qatar, both of whom emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international ties through artistic collaboration. The session was conducted by Natalia Curmanova, a Moldova-born artist and certified art educator currently based in Qatar. With extensive experience in the field of fine arts education, Curmanova specializes in a variety of techniques and mediums, teaching both children and adults across diverse age groups. Her approach to art instruction combines professional technique with a nurturing, inclusive environment, making the workshop both educational and enjoyable. Participants were introduced to creative watercolor techniques and doodling styles in a relaxed and friendly setting. The hands-on activities allowed attendees to engage with the art form in a personal way, fostering creativity while also building cultural appreciation. Through the lens of artistic expression, the event offered a deeper understanding of Argentine culture and its artistic heritage. The workshop was graced by the presence of several young participants, including Daniela, daughter of the Ambassador of El Salvador; Aiia and Karima, daughters of the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan; and Awa, daughter of the Ambassador of Gambia. Their involvement added a youthful energy and cross-cultural charm to the event. The Doodling Watercolour Workshop not only celebrated the artistic spirit but also reinforced the significance of cultural diplomacy as a bridge between nations. It stood as a testament to the power of art in connecting communities and enriching intercultural dialogue.

Tribune News Network Doha As summer unfolds, Qatar National Library (QNL) continues to welcome children and young adults with a vibrant lineup of activities, with the Summer Camp initiative taking centre stage in its August offerings. From interactive storytelling sessions to hands-on STEM activities and a deep dive into Gulf history, QNL engages the community with enriching experiences for all ages. Running from August 1 to 29, the Summer Camp offers 14 engaging sessions tailored to different age groups and available in both Arabic and English. Storytime for Children returns with four sessions on 4, 11, 18 and 25 August, designed for children ages seven to 14. These interactive events aim to spark imagination and foster a love of reading. On August 5, 12, 19 and 26, the Library hosts 'Make with Me' workshops, inviting children and young adults ages nine to 17 to participate in hands-on arts and crafts activities designed to promote creativity and self-expression. For young science enthusiasts, the Library offers six STEM sessions on August 6, 13, 14, 20, 21 and 27, covering topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. These workshops are tailored for participants ages seven to 17. A highlight of the month is the Gulf History Lecture Series event, 'How Archaeology Revealed the History of the Gulf-Cases from Qatar and Bahrain,' scheduled for 6 August. The lecture will explore how archaeological research sheds light on the region's past, offering insights often absent from written records. Case studies from Qatar and Bahrain will illustrate how settlement patterns evolved over time and how Gulf societies were shaped by their maritime environment. The Library's Murshidi Program returns with two sessions on August 23 and 30. The initiative supports high school and university students by connecting them with mentors who offer personalized guidance on university applications, scholarships and career planning.
