Coachella campers arrived ahead of the start of the famed festival only to face massive traffic lines.
What's enough to knock the focus off Luke Combs during his headlining set at Stagecoach over the weekend?
Try a surprise guest appearance by Garth Brooks to sing the country hit to end all country hits: "Friends in Low Places." Yep, that'll definitely do it!
And so, it was that Combs put a most thunderous finishing touch on what will surely go down as one of the most epic headlining sets in recent Stagecoach history.
Combs keyed up expectations as he told fans something special was on the way to help him close out an already-rousing festival set. Playing somewhat coy, he sang the first portion of "Friends in Low Places," only for Brooks to quietly appear on stage and take over.

The crowd, at first shocked, and then raucously delighted, seemed unable to believe their ears.
What transpired over the next few minutes felt like a shot — or three — of pure Stagecoach adrenaline, stronger and more intoxicating than any of the varied liquors that had been guzzled all over the Empire Polo Club grounds over the previous 72 hours.
The Garth Brooks news is a big disappointment − and an important reminder
It felt like nearly everyone in the crowd was singing along as Brooks and Combs — both sporting big grins — drank in the moment, turning the vocal work over to the crowd for large portions of the song but interjecting just enough to remind us that we were witnessing country music lore in the making.
Finally, Combs yelled, "It's Garth Freaking Brooks, everybody!" We didn't need the explanation, but the crowd, of course, roared anyway.
It was Brooks himself who delivered what will probably be the most-remembered line of the night when he referred to Combs as a "future Hall of Famer."
It's a title that Combs earned through a grueling 90-minute set in the California desert, leading the crowd through a commanding barrage of his biggest hits.

The country music star headlined Stagecoach just three years ago, but his set this time around was strikingly different. Many of his most beloved hits, featured heavily during the April 27 show, had not even been released at the time of that last show.
It served as yet another sign that Combs' career is as white-hot with success now as it was then.
While Brooks stole the show, he wasn't the only high-profile guest to join Combs on stage. Pop punk band Good Charlotte also made an appearance to sing their hit "The Anthem," alongside Combs and Bailey Zimmerman — an up-and-comer who appeared at Stagecoach in 2024 and 2023 — came out to perform a new song called "Backup Plan."
Still, it was Comb's voice that kept audiences captivating, his signature country croon ringing out over a rapt stadium.

While there was no shortage of highlights, it was hard to beat the sheer power of his "Hurricane" performance, or the cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" − a sleeper hit for the country artist. Then again, I'll also have a hard time getting over the hard-charging spectacle of "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma."
When he was finished wrapping up his own set, Combs hopped stages to lend his talents to the festival's actual final act: the Backstreet Boys.
Showing up to sing "I Want It That Way," he helped give the classic 2000s hit a country twang.
I have a feeling it won't be the last time we see Combs show up to blow the doors off someone else's set at Stagecoach.
Someday, an elder Combs might even have to come back to crown the next "Luke Combs" just like Brooks did tonight.

Sean ‘Diddy' Combs' connection to a famous gangster is part of his family lore
As the federal criminal trial of Sean 'Diddy' Combs continues, many parts of his past are being revisited. That includes his father's friendship with the late gangster, Frank Lucas. Melvin Combs was a drug dealer who was fatally shot in 1972, when his son Sean Combs was three years old. 'That's not something I glorify, but he was in Harlem and he was doing his thing, selling narcotics,' Combs told journalist Toure in an interview 13 years ago. 'And we all know what that gets you. That's only going to have you end up in jail or dead. It is the reason why I didn't follow in those footsteps.' In that interview, Combs was clear that his father did not work for either Lucas or another famed Harlem gangster, Nicky Barnes, but rather was 'as big as them' in the hustling game. The younger Combs didn't shy away from his father's history. 'I'm definitely like him,' Combs said. 'But I'm just doing it in a legal way.' Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges that include racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution in an ongoing federal criminal trial in Manhattan. His mother, Janice Combs, had initially told her son his father had died in a car crash. He told Toure he found out what his father had been involved with on his own. 'This was before the internet and I had looked up my father's name and I saw an article about my mother wearing a full length chinchilla [a fur coat] to a funeral and taking me and I was in a mink,' Combs recalled. 'And that was like the story of just the glamour and like the decadence of our family and just like he was the kingpin, you know, of Harlem and how he had got assassinated.' He said he understood why his mother hadn't initially been honest with him about his dad. Due to where they were living when he was growing up, Combs said he believes he would have become 'one of the biggest drug dealers out there because…the type of person I would have wanted to follow in my father's footsteps.' Melvin Combs had a connection to Frank Lucas, a famous drug lord in Harlem during his heyday in the 1960s and 1970s. Lucas was famously portrayed by Denzel Washington in the 2007 film 'American Gangster.' He was sentenced to 70 years in prison after being convicted of federal drug charges in New York and state charges in New Jersey, but only served seven before turning informant and going into the Witness Protection Program, according to the New York Times. Lucas emerged in later years to share his story and during an interview with Vlad TV said he and Melvin Combs were 'good friends.' 'We did a lot of business together,' Lucas said. 'Of course it was not legal business, but we did a lot of business together.' Lucas expressed sadness regarding the elder Combs' murder and said he met Sean Combs when he was a little boy. 'His daddy used to bring him over my house,' Lucas said. 'He used to come see me on various business and he would bring him over my house.' Lucas added that about a year prior to the Vlad TV interview, he had connected with Combs, who was seeking information about his late father. 'I told him something about his father, but I didn't give him the whole story because he didn't press me,' Lucas said. 'He just asked me casually and I told him casually. But if he had pressed me, I would have told him the whole story.' Combs told Toure that the world didn't know the whole story about him. 'People don't really know me,' the Bad Boy Record founder said at the time. 'And that's by design.' 'Who is this person, the Sean Combs that we don't know,' Toure pressed. Bryana Bongolan will be called by the prosecution to testify. In November 2024, she filed a lawsuit accusing Combs of sexual battery. "On or about September 26, 2016, Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs sexually battered Ms. Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan, dangled her off of a 17-story-high balcony, and then slammed her onto the patio furniture on the balcony," the lawsuit alleged. "His outrageous and abhorrent conduct violated Ms. Bongolan's fundamental dignity, bodily autonomy, and sense of safety." After the suit was filed, a legal representative for Combs denied Bongolan's allegations in a statement to Rolling Stone. "Anyone has the right to file a lawsuit, regardless of the evidence they may or may not have. Since last year, Ms. Bongolan has expressed an intention to sue Mr. Combs and has sought legal representation to pursue her claims,' the rep said. 'Mr. Combs firmly denies these serious allegations and remains confident they will ultimately be proven baseless.' Combs is now criminally charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution in federal court. He has pleaded not guilty. In the indictment against Combs, prosecutors said that Combs is alleged to have once dangled someone over a balcony. In her lawsuit, Bongolan said she had been sleeping in the apartment of Combs' then-girlfriend, Casandra "Cassie" Ventura. Bongolan said in the lawsuit that she suddenly heard Combs shouting and banging on the door of the apartment. "Mr. Combs gained entry to the apartment and, upon seeing Ms. Bongolan on the balcony, advanced on her," the suit alleges. "He grabbed her, turned her back to his chest, and molested her by groping her breasts as she yelled to be left alone. When Ms. Bongolan began to physically struggle, Mr. Combs shifted his hands from her breasts to her arm pit area and lifted Ms. Bongolan up on the banister of the 17th floor balcony, while repeatedly yelling: 'Do you know what the f— you did!'"After getting down from the banister, Bongolan claimed Combs lifted her higher over the balcony. The suit claimed that the alleged assault ended when Ventura emerged and began screaming for Combs to stop, before he allegedly pulled Bongolan back and slammed her on a table. Ventura previously testified at Combs' trial for four days and made allegations of abuse, including rape, over the course of their 11-year relationship.
