11 Sudanese migrants killed a car crash in the Libya desert, authorities say
CAIRO — Eleven Sudanese migrants and a Libyan driver were killed Friday in a car crash in the desert in Libya, authorities said, the latest tragedy involving Sudanese fleeing a civil war in their home country.
The crash between the migrants' vehicle and a truck happened early Friday in the desert, 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of the Libyan town of Kufra, the town's Ambulance and Emergency Service said in a statement.

Colorado crash survivor shares story of deadly collision: 'We shouldn't be here'
It is photos of the wreckage that are among many reminders of how Colorado resident Magda Navarro's life has completely changed after a deadly crash earlier this year. "I don't know, I have a lot of emotions," said Navarro. "It's crazy how you feel untouchable in life, and then things like this happen." Navarro sat down with CBS Colorado more than a month after she was severely injured in a multi-vehicle crash on I-270. "I've had this brace since I've been in the accident," she said. CBS It was after 6 p.m. on April 8, when Navarro was driving eastbound on I-270 with her two sons to celebrate her second day at a new job. "All of a sudden, I just feel this really bad impact and my son yelling, 'Mom'," said Navarro. A gray Dodge Durango struck Navarro's red Buick and at least one other car. Navarro's car flipped over with her and her children inside. Magda Navarro "I was so scared that the car was going to go up in flames or explode and my kids be in there," she said. "I was in just so much pain that I couldn't even help my kids to get out of the car." Navarro said she was in and out of consciousness, but her children were eventually rescued by paramedics with minor injuries. After she was rescued, Navarro spent the next 10 days in the hospital with multiple fractured discs, torn ligaments, and a traumatic brain injury. "Thank god I don't have any bleeding or anything like that, but my brain is still swollen," said Navarro. Magda Navarro Crashes are not uncommon on I-270. Earlier this week, another accident occurred on I-270 between U.S. 6 and Quebec Street. It could still take another year for the I-270 Corridor Improvement Study to complete its environmental study before work can begin to improve traffic flow and safety on the interstate. Navarro, however, said it is going to take a lot more accountability from drivers on the road to improve traffic behavior. "If anything, I would just say, please, before you drink and drive or speed, just take into consideration that you're not only putting your life at risk but you're putting other people's as well," said Navarro. She said it is frustrating that she may never know why this crash happened, since the driver of the Dodge died at the scene. "As bad as this accident was, we shouldn't be here," said Navarro. CBS Now, she's grappling with the fear she could end up paralyzed if a disc on her upper spine doesn't heal, while at the same time trying to crowdfund and support her family amid this new normal. "If you can't help your children out when they're most in need, you feel worthless," Navarro shared. Still, she remains hopeful more tragedies like this do not happen to other people on the road. "It was terrifying. It was a big eye-opener for me," said Navarro.

Lawyers ask for year-long delay to Lockerbie bombing trial
The trial of a Libyan man accused of making the bomb that destroyed an American airliner over Lockerbie could be delayed until spring next year. The case against Abu Agila Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi, known as Masud, was due to begin in Washington this month, but was delayed due to his poor health and to give the defence more time to prepare. In a joint submission lodged with the court, lawyers for the prosecution and defence are now "expecting to request" a trial date of late April 2026. The proposed delay would have to be approved by a judge. Masud has denied priming the explosive device which brought down Pan Am flight 103 on 21 December 1988, killing 270 people. The explosion killed 259 passengers and crew and a further 11 people in the Dumfries and Galloway town when wreckage of the Boeing 747 fell on their homes. It remains the deadliest terror attack in the history of the United Kingdom. New documents blame Libya for Lockerbie bombing US judge agrees to delay Lockerbie bombing trial Masud, who is in his early 70s, is described as a joint citizen of Libya and Tunisia. He has been receiving treatment for a non-life threatening medical condition. In a joint status report to the US district court for the District of Columbia, both parties referred to the "complex, international nature" of evidence in the case, adding that a pre-trial schedule would be "atypical". Lawyers also requested an early deadline for motions to "suppress the defendant's statement," presumed to be an alleged confession Masud made while in jail in Libya in 2012. The claim, which is said to be of "importance to the [US] government's case," alleges that Masud admitted working for the Libyan intelligence service and confessed to building the device which brought down the aircraft. It is also alleged he named two accomplices, Abdelbasset Al Megrahi and Al Amin Khalifah Fhimah. Megrahi was convicted of murdering the 270 victims and died in Tripoli in 2012 after being freed on compassionate grounds by the Scottish government. Al Amin Khalifah Fhimah, his co-accused in the trial at the Scottish court sitting in the Netherlands, was found not guilty. Scottish and US prosecutors first named Masud as a suspect in the case in 2015 following the collapse of the Gaddafi regime in Libya. He was charged five years later by then-US attorney general William Barr with the destruction of an aircraft resulting in death. Masud was taken into US custody in 2022 after being removed from his home by an armed militia. The latest hearing in the case is due to take place in Washington on Thursday. EPD says man crashed into parked car 4x legal limit
HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – An Evansville man is facing charges after police say he drove into a parked car 'highly intoxicated'. According to EPD, an officer responded to a property damage crash in the 1300 block of E. Indiana Street at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Officers reportedly found a Hispanic male driver slumped over the wheel of a tan car and was met with a strong odor of alcohol. EPD says over a dozen beer cans was on the floorboards and seats. The driver was identified as 27-year-old Erik Alberto Pedro Ruiz. EPD states Ruiz refused to answer any questions, speak to officers or take any tests. Ruiz only spoke Spanish, so a translator was used, and through the translator, Ruiz claimed he was not driving as a friend of his was, but he did not know where he went. Two women that witnessed the incident claimed through similar counts that Ruiz was going west unable to maintain his lane and almost hit one of them. Ruiz reportedly drifted to the north side of the street before hitting the parked car. EPD says Ruiz had red/watery eyes, a fixed gaze and smelled heavily of alcohol. EPD also says Ruiz told the translate he had consumed eight beers. A PBT reading reportedly came in at .277, and at the hospital, Ruiz reportedly fell asleep 'within minutes' and didn't wake up.
