U.S. Forward Patrick Agyemang Joins Derby County, Will Get Hernia Surgery
Derby County, which plays in England's second division, paid a reported fee of $7.7 million to Major League Soccer team Charlotte FC to secure Ageymang's services.
The 24-year-old Agyemang scored eight goals in 18 appearances during the first half of Charlotte's current season. Across 59 regular-season matches since 2023, Agyemang has scored 17 times for Charlotte.
For the USMNT, Agyemang had two goals at the Gold Cup and started all six games as the team reached the final, where it lost to Mexico.
Charlotte described the transfer fee as a club record, though neither team revealed the figure. British media reported it to be $7.7 million.
In its statement announcing the move, Derby County said Agygemang will undergo hernia surgey.
"Agyemang has been playing for most of the 2025 Major League Soccer season with a hernia injury that has been managed without surgery but meant he has been playing in discomfort," Derby said in its announcement. "With a long-term view in mind, all parties have agreed he will undergo routine surgery and is therefore likely to miss the opening games of the 2025-26 season."
The East Hartford, Connecticut native was selected 12th overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
"I've heard about [the move] once I was getting into the national team for the Gold Cup," Agyemang said in an interview with Derby's website. "And obviously, in the moment, you're like, 'that's something I'm interested in!' But you want to focus on what you're doing.
"Then, as it starts to progress, you start to look more into it. And there is this project I'd love to be a part of. And I just hoped for it to get across the line. And happily, it did."
Derby County narrowly avoided relegation back to the third division (League One) last season. The team had played there from 2022-24 after dropping from the Championship (2008-22). The Rams last played in the Premier League in the 2007-2008 season.

Young shows his class as wayward Dockers crush Eagles
Fremantle midfielder Hayden Young has showcased what a weapon he will be in the club's AFL premiership push as the Dockers brushed aside West Coast by 49 points in a fiery western derby clash. Young tallied 23 disposals, seven clearances, three goals and 555m gained to win the Glendinning-Allan Medal in the 18.18 (126) to 12.5 (77) triumph in front of 54,384 fans at Optus Stadium on Saturday. The 24-year-old came on as the sub in his first game back from hamstring surgery in last week's one-point win over Collingwood, but he was unleashed from the very start of Saturday's game before being subbed out early in the last. Hayden Young is so classy 👌#AFLFreoEagles — AFL (@AFL) July 26, 2025 Young was the dominant figure of the opening term, and his ruthlessness in front of goal when his teammates continually missed was another sign of just how important he is to the club's flag push. Michael Frederick kicked a career-high four goals, Andrew Brayshaw racked up 32 disposals and eight clearances, while rising star Murphy Reid (23 disposals, one goal) tallied a whopping 15 score involvements. Four-time Glendinning-Allan Medallist Caleb Serong had to work hard for his 20 disposals and eight clearances under a tight tag from Brady Hough. For West Coast, defender Reuben Ginbey kept Josh Treacy goalless from nine disposals, Tim Kelly found form with 26 disposals, eight clearances and two goals, and Harley Reid (15 disposals, three clearances, two goals) battled hard amidst the boos. Reid limped off in the dying minutes and headed to the change rooms after being crunched in a tackle by Karl Worner. The win keeps Fremantle (13-6) within percentage of the top four, while West Coast (1-18) have lost nine on the trot and are headed for their second wooden spoon in three seasons. West Coast were forced into a late change when defender Harry Edwards injured his hamstring in the warm-up, Harley Reid was target No.1 in the opening quarter. First, he was involved in a wrestle with Fremantle veteran Jaeger O'Meara. Then later in the term, he was caught unaware when he was flattened in an off-the-ball bump from Patrick Voss (three goals). West Coast kept pace with Fremantle early, but two goals in a minute to Frederick, followed by two goals in a minute to Young, blew the scoreboard out to 40-12 by quarter-time. Fremantle's 14-7 clearance count in the opening quarter was ominous, with Young tallying 10 disposals, five clearances and two goals in a brilliant individual display. Frederick's third goal stretched the margin to 35 points early in the third quarter, but a dose of Harley Reid magic gave Eagles fans something to smile about. Reid received a handpass on the wing and took a running bounce before nailing a goal from 47m. Harley Reid is an absolute star 🤩#AFLFreoEagles — AFL (@AFL) July 26, 2025 Fremantle dominated the rest of the quarter, but their wasteful return of 1.6 meant the half-time margin was only 22 points. The Dockers' wobbles continued early in the third quarter as West Coast cut the margin to 18 points. But goals to Jye Amiss and Voss - each of which was followed by a mini melee - gave Fremantle breathing space, before Young added another later in the quarter. Fremantle blew the margin wide open with the first four goals of the final term.

Inter Miami sign Argentine World Cup winner Rodrigo De Paul
Rodrigo De Paul has completed his move from Atletico Madrid to Major League Soccer club Inter Miami, confirmed by both clubs. The Argentine joins on an initial loan until the end of 2025 with a purchase option worth €15 million for a deal that extends until 2029. Despite not being an obligatory buy-out clause, Miami are expected to trigger it, provided the length of the contract. De Paul's future at Atletico was up in the air for some time, and the arrival of new midfielders, including Johnny Cardoso, Alex Baena and Thiago Almada, as part of the summer overhaul has led to his exit. The 31-year-old has been a vital cog for the Spanish giants since his move from Udinese, registering 14 goals and 27 assists in 187 appearances. While Diego Simeone's side would miss a player of De Paul's calibre and experience, Miami are adding a world-class midfielder to their ranks. De Paul will link up with his long-time friend Lionel Messi, with whom he played a pivotal role in Argentina's World Cup victory in 2022 and the Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024. The move will also reunite De Paul with his former Atletico teammate Luis Suarez, who has been in sublime form for Miami this season. The former Udinese star will bolster the midfield unit, which features Sergio Busquets, Federico Redondo, Telasco Segovia, and Benjamin Cremaschi. De Paul's signing has further fuelled the exit speculation on Busquets, whose deal expires in December. The Spaniard is one of the three Designated Players at Miami alongside Messi and Jordi Alba, but could lose his spot to De Paul next year. De Paul will be aiming to form a great partnership with Messi and make a significant impact to help the Herons compete for major silverware.

Inter Miami makes it official, signs veteran midfielder Rodrigo De Paul
Inter Miami CF announced Friday it has signed Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul on loan from Atlético de Madrid. The deal runs through the 2025 Major League Soccer season and includes an option to make the transfer permanent through 2029. De Paul, a World Cup champion with Argentina, will join the team pending receipt of his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate. The club says the 31-year-old brings "elite, title-winning experience" to the squad. "Assembling a team that inspires our fans to dream continues to be one of our primary aspirations, so we're thrilled to sign a player of Rodrigo's caliber," Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas said in a statement. "He is a winner who has conquered the world stage; his ambitions match ours at Inter Miami." "Rodrigo is a player I've admired for many years," said co-owner David Beckham. "As a leader he has brought so much to the teams he has played for—especially with his national team Argentina." De Paul will be introduced to fans during a pregame ceremony at Chase Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, ahead of Inter Miami's match against FC Cincinnati. "What brings me to Inter Miami is the desire to compete, win titles, to write the pages in the Club's history," De Paul said. "It's a Club that is shaping up to be great… so that many people follow this incredible team." De Paul has played nearly 500 matches across top leagues in Argentina, Spain, and Italy. He has made 78 appearances for Argentina's senior national team since 2018, helping lead the country to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title, as well as the 2021 and 2024 Copa América championships. His club career includes stints with Racing Club, Valencia, Udinese, and Atlético de Madrid, where he appeared in 187 matches and played alongside future Inter Miami teammate Luis Suárez.
