‘Panicked' driver reports injured dog along road — but it wasn't what it seemed
But it turns out the situation was not as dire as it seemed, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said in a May 25 post on Facebook.
'This week at Animal Law Enforcement started like any other: with coffee, clipboards, and someone trying to microwave fish again (whoever you are, stop it),' the organization quipped in the post. 'Then … THE CALL came in. A panicked Good Samaritan had seen what they were certain was a poor, injured black and white dog lying on the side of the road while they were driving.'
The shelter took the call seriously.
'Without hesitation, Officer Jones sprang into action. Truck in drive. Sunglasses on. Radio blaring the Mission: Impossible theme (probably),' the organization said.
Then when the officer got to the location, 'she saw the 'dog' in question,' officials said.
'Except it … It wasn't a dog. It wasn't injured. It wasn't … alive,' the organization said. 'It was a tiger. A stuffed tiger. Like the kind you win at a carnival if you're good at tossing rings or bribing the teenager in charge.'
Photos show the stuffed white tiger lying in some grass on the side of the road. From a glance, it really could look like some kind of funky-colored dog.
'Not one to leave a civilian (or polyester blend) in danger, Jones did what any hero would do: scooped up the floofy beast and gently placed him in the back of her truck to make sure no one else mistook him for a puppy in peril,' officials said. 'Thank you to Officer Jones for saving our Oscar-worthy tiger and giving us a good chuckle this week!'
Several people joked in the comments about the silly scenario.
'When will he be available?' someone asked. 'Hope to see him on the adoption floor soon.'
'Thank goodness he's safe,' someone else said under the photo of the stuffed tiger in the dog kennel in the back of Jones' truck. 'I hope he finds a good forever home soon.'

Another charge was that he allegedly portrayed himself as a successful businessman and advised a complainant that she should invest in a canal boat, which he later allegedly sold without her knowledge or consent to make a gain of £75,000 for himself. Prosecutors allege that the defendant defrauded complainants by claiming he needed money for private heart surgery and veneer repairs. Other allegations are that he needed help in paying off outstanding tax bills and debts that carried threats of violence against him. The 52-year-old, of Church Grove in Donnington, Telford, was charged following an investigation by detectives from Cheshire Police's economic crime unit The charges relate to romance fraud allegations involving six complainants from Cheshire, Lancashire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Manchester, and the West Midlands. The offences are reported to have occurred between 2009 and 2024, with the total value of the alleged offences being more than £590,000. Cole-Jones, also known as Marc Cole and Marc Sands, will make a first appearance in relation to the allegations before Warrington Magistrates' Court today.

Person killed, good Samaritan injured during late-night Los Angeles shooting
A heated confrontation became tragic late Saturday night when a shooting left one person dead and another injured in Los Angeles, according to authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department said the incident took place in the 1300 block of St. Andrews Place in the Harvard Heights neighborhood around 10:35 p.m. The suspect and victim were engaged in a verbal dispute when the victim called out for help as a vehicle was passing by. Police said a good Samaritan exited the vehicle to provide help, and the suspect then drew a firearm and fired shots at both of them. The victim, who was originally in a dispute with the suspect, was pronounced dead at a local hospital later that night. They've yet to be identified by authorities. The good Samaritan was transported to a local hospital, where they remain in stable condition. According to the LAPD, the suspect remains at large as of Sunday. No additional details were immediatley made available.

California teenager mauled by pack of 10 dogs asks mom heartbreaking question after brutal attack
A California man was arrested after 10 of his dogs allegedly mauled a teenager while she was out jogging, authorities say. Craig Arthur Simmons, 61, was taken into custody on August 13 nearly a month after the attack that left 17-year-old Tracy Hurtado severely injured. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Hurtado was jogging when she was attacked by at least 10 large-breed dogs that were not fenced or leashed. Simmons lived with more than a dozen dogs, authorities said. 'The dogs bit the victim several times on her legs and arms,' deputies said. 'The bites caused large lacerations, abrasions, and removed flesh.' A Good Samaritan stepped in and was able to rescue the teenager. Hurtado was then transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. Simmons was booked into High Desert Detention Center on suspicion of being the owner of an animal that caused serious bodily injury or death. He remains in custody. Hurtado's mom, Maria Azpeitia, recounted the heartbreaking aftermath of the horrific attack to Eyewitness News 7. "I got close to her and she's like, 'Mom, am I still pretty?'" she said. "I said, 'Of course. You're beautiful.'" The nature of Hurtado's injuries forced her to remain home from school for medical care and rehabilitation, according to a GoFundMe campaign, that has raised $28,000 so far. According to the campaign, Support Tracy's Recovery Journey, Hurtado was getting ready to start her senior year of high school when the attack happened. 'She was getting ready to do her senior year of high school this year,' her family said. 'Now, because of this, she has to stay home and go to several doctor's appointments and rehab. Due to the trauma, she cannot sleep at night; she's having nightmares.'
