Three Melaka Pink Bus drivers suspended for traffic offences
Melaka Works, Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer said the drivers, all in their 30s, were suspended for an unspecified period until investigations into their infractions are completed and faced the risk of losing their jobs if they were found guilty.
The stern action was taken as a reminder to stage bus drivers to comply with traffic rules and regulations, he added.
'One of them was involved in an accident that caused the death of another motorist while another had overtook other vehicles before making a dangerous U-turn... their actions were recorded by other motorists and went viral on social media.
'The state government will not compromise with dangerous and reckless driving or behaviour of bus drivers that endanger other motorists as it involves safety issues and the lives of others,' he told reporters after officiating the Melaka Road Transport Department's MyLesen (B2) programme driving licence presentation ceremony here today.
He also revealed that he instructed BAS.MY management to review the old records of all 60 stage bus drivers to ensure that the 'Pink Bus' drivers could carry out their duties responsibly and project a positive image for the state.
'Before drivers are hired, they are tested and have their past records reviewed, but there is a possibility that some try to hide previous records to gain employment,' he said, adding that meetings with all stage bus drivers would be conducted in stages to identify any related issues.

MELAKA: The Melaka Road Transport Department (RTD) seized seven luxury vehicles, estimated to be worth almost RM6 million, during "Op Khas Luxury" (Special Luxury Operation) conducted from July 1 until today. Its director, Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, said the seized luxury vehicles, which include brands like Bentley, Porsche, BMW, and Toyota Alphard, were impounded for various offences, including expired road tax and lack of insurance coverage. She said that common excuses given by the owners or drivers of these vehicles were that they "overlooked" or "forgot" to renew their road tax and insurance. "The latest luxury vehicle seized was a Toyota Alphard driven by a Myanmar national with six other men of the same nationality, traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru. "The seizure took place at the Jasin toll entrance around 10am this morning. "The driver did not have a valid driver's license, and none of them had valid travel documents before being handed over to the police for further action," she said at a press conference on Op Khas Luxury and Op Pemandu Warga Asing (PeWA) (Foreign Driver Operation) here today. Also present were the Deputy Director of the Melaka RTD, Khairul Aswad Abdul Halim, and the Head of the Melaka RTD Enforcement Division, Zulhilmi Zaidie. Siti Zarina said that a check revealed that the owner of the Toyota Alphard is a local citizen while a detailed investigation is underway to examine various aspects, including whether the vehicle was rented to the foreigners involved. She said Op Luxury was launched simultaneously across the country on July 1, focusing on strengthening enforcement against imported and luxury vehicles that fail to comply with road regulations and laws. In another development, she said 36 motorcycles ridden by foreigners were also seized under Op PeWA (operation codenamed Op Pewa for vehicles operated by foreigners), which was conducted around the state today. "The foreigners riding motorcycles were from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Rohingya, Myanmar, and Vietnam. "The main offences detected were driving without a license, expired road tax, and a lack of insurance coverage," she said.

Melaka JPJ cracks down on unlicensed foreign drivers
MELAKA: A targeted enforcement by Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) resulted in the arrest of six Myanmar nationals and the seizure of a luxury Toyota Alphard. State JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop said the foreigners, made up of five men and one woman aged between 25 and 30, were stopped at the Jasin toll plaza exit here at about 10am on Tuesday (Aug 12) during Operasi Pemandu Warga Asing (Op Pewa). The operation, she said, focused on foreign drivers without valid documents. "Checks revealed that none of the six could produce legal identification and the man behind the wheel had no valid driving licence. 'They were handed over to the police for further action," she said today. Siti Zarina said the vehicle, which was registered under the name of a Malaysian man, was also seized for investigation. She said throughout the operation, officers inspected 56 vehicles and found that 38 of them had committed various traffic offences. "In total, 119 notices were issued under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and a total of 38 vehicles were seized, comprising 36 motorcycles and two cars. "The most common offences were driving without a licence, expired road tax, and the absence of insurance coverage," she said. Siti Zarina added that JPJ also carried out Ops Khas Luxury, an enforcement effort aimed at imported and high-end vehicles that fail to comply with traffic regulations. "Since January, we have seized 10 luxury vehicles for expired road tax and no insurance while seven of these were confiscated during 'Ops Luxury', which has been running nationwide since July 1,' she said. Among the vehicles seized were Porsche, Bentley, BMW, Tesla, Toyota Alphard and Kia models, with a combined estimated value of nearly RM5mil.
