Jupiter International, which has proposed a Rs10,900 crore investment creating more than 8,300 jobs, plans to set up a solar water, solar cell, and modules manufacturing unit at Butibori. The state sees this as a move towards propelling Maharashtra into a leadership position in renewable energy. Jupiter International is a West Bengal-based company. TOI reported its plans to start a solar cells unit in Nagpur on August 18.
The MoU was signed the day after.
Vow Iron and Steel will be setting up the integrated steel plant at Gondpipri in Chandrapur. The company proposes to create 1,500 jobs in this project. With Gadchiroli emerging as the preferred destination for the steel industry, the project is also expected to boost industrial development of Chandrapur district. The company has Ujwal Pagariya and Ankit Pagariya at the helm as directors.
Webmint Digital Private Limited, which also has the Pagariyas as promoters, also signed an MoU for a data centre in the Taloja Industrial area in Pune with an investment of Rs4,846 crore, creating 2,050 jobs.
Around 26,000 jobs are proposed to be created with all the MoUs clubbed.
Chairman of the Confederation of Small Industry Associations (COSIA) Julfesh Shah said as MoUs mark the industrial development of the region, it must be ensured that it translates into actual investment at the earliest. The state must also come up with the much-awaited new industrial policy.
As the state signed eight different MoUs, the majority of the proposals included setting up data centres. Most of the companies have kept the choice of location open, said a source.

Tapal Ganesh seeks recovery of ₹884 crore from Obulapuram Mining Company for illegal ore extraction

Ballari-based miner and activist Tapal Ganesh has urged the State government to initiate recovery proceedings against Obulapuram Mining Company and its group entities for allegedly extracting 29 lakh tonnes of iron ore worth ₹884 crore from Sandur cluster leases in Ballari district. In a letter of August 18 addressed to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Ganesh has alleged that the mining company, under the leadership of its director and former Minister Gali Janardhana Reddy, illegally mined and transported iron ore from Karnataka while misusing permits from its lease in Andhra Pradesh. 'It has been conclusively established through various inquiries, reports and judicial pronouncements that Obulapuram Mining Company and its group entities have illegally mined and transported approximately 29 lakh tonnes of iron ore, valued at about ₹884 crore, from the Sandur cluster,' Mr. Ganesh wrote. He cited multiple sources to back his claim, including the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) report of 2011 presented before the Supreme Court, the final Lokayukta report on illegal mining in Karnataka and the judgment of the CBI Court in Hyderabad delivered in May 2025 which convicted OMC and its directors of illegal mining. The activist also pointed to FIRs filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Lokayukta in 2015, naming Mr. Reddy as accused no 1 and official correspondence from forest officers documenting OMC's operations in the Ballari Reserve Forest. Speaking to The Hindu on Thursday, Mr. Ganesh claimed that the evidence is overwhelming and demanded that the government take immediate steps to recover ₹884 crore, the value of illegally extracted iron ore, from the mining company, MBT Hind Traders and their associates. 'This is not just about revenue loss. It is about protecting Karnataka's natural resources, upholding the rule of law and restoring public trust that has been eroded by illegal mining. The government must start recovery process which should be monitored at the highest level due to its interstate implications, given the mining company's operations across Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka,' Mr. Ganesh said and urged the State government to direct the departments of Mines and Geology, Forest, Revenue and Law to pursue coordinated legal action under the MMDR Act, the Karnataka Forest Act and other applicable laws.

JSW Sarbloh, Tomcar USA join hands to build TX all-terrain vehicles in India

In a move that underlines India's growing emphasis on indigenous defence manufacturing, JSW Sarbloh Motors, a subsidiary of JSW Defence Private Limited and part of the JSW Group, has entered into a joint venture with US-based Tomcar, a global name in high-performance all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). The collaboration will involve some local manufacture of the Tomcar TX range at JSW's Chandigarh plant, meanwhile, India-assembled units are expected to arrive by early 2026. Targeting armed forces and beyond The project intends to cater for all segments, with the Indian Defence Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) as the core customers. The rugged, modular TX platform is being positioned as a tactical mobility solution capable of handling extreme conditions — from border patrol and counter-insurgency operations to logistics support in difficult terrains. State police units and specialised industrial sectors such as mining, timber, and search-and-rescue are also expected to be part of the addressable market. Field trials and demonstrations will begin in the coming months for defence and paramilitary agencies. This could provide crucial feedback before the formal rollout of production-ready vehicles. A manufacturing-led strategy The joint venture highlights JSW Group's push into high-technology manufacturing with strategic implications. 'This collaboration is not just about business, but about building capabilities that matter to national security,' said Jaskirat Vladimir Singh Nagra, CEO and Founder Director of JSW Sarbloh Motors. The focus is on indigenisation - local manufacturing, assembly and after-sales support to reduce dependence on imports and to create skilled jobs. JSW Group's Parth Jindal said it was a landmark in improving India's defence mobility options. The overall plan is part of the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat plan, which promotes indigenous design, development, and manufacturing of sophisticated platforms for security and industry use. Tomcar's global playbook enters India For Tomcar USA, the agreement constitutes its official entry into India and one step in the direction of expansion in right-hand-drive markets. Founded on a history of building mission-grade vehicles for militaries and industries worldwide, Tomcar brings decades of engineering experience to the table. Ram Zarchi, Founder & Principal of Tomcar USA, said the JV was an opportunity to combine proven engineering with JSW's manufacturing expertise. Interim CEO Mark W. Farage added that beyond defence, India offers enormous potential for Tomcar vehicles in commercial sectors such as agriculture, disaster relief, and industrial operations where durability and reliability are paramount.

Oval Invincibles To Be Renamed As MI London: Report

Last Updated: According to a report, the name change will take place ahead of the start of the 2026 edition of the Hundred. Oval Invincibles – the most successful team in The Hundred's history (two titles each for the men's and women's teams) – will be renamed MI London. According to a report in The Telegraph on Thursday (August 21), 'Oval Invincibles are expected to rebrand as MI London, the first choice of their Indian co-owners." As per the available information, the name change will take place ahead of the start of the sixth edition of The Hundred. Apart from the Oval Invincibles, MI owners own the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indian Women in the Women's Premier League, MI New York in Major League Cricket (MLC), MI Cape Town in SA20 and MI Emirates in International League T20 (ILT20). The Hundred will undergo major changes next year when the new ownership model will formally take over. In the popular 100-balls-per-side tournament, the host venues running teams will operate alongside new investors, who have bought at least 49 per cent of each team. Surrey are entering a partnership with the Ambanis, who bought 49% of Oval Invincibles in an auction which valued the franchise at £123m. According to the report, 'The name of the franchise from next year has been a contentious issue from the start and is not yet confirmed in writing. However, Telegraph Sport understands that it will be called MI London despite the wishes of Surrey, who initially wanted the county name incorporated into a rebranded Oval Invincibles." 'From a brand perspective, I hope we can brand it as a Surrey-branded team and part of our cricket ecosystem," chairman Oli Slipper was quoted as saying by Telegraph Sport in 2023. The name change of Oval Invincibles to MI London next year will mean that the Hundred competition will have two teams with London in their name, as the Lord's-based side are known as London Spirit. Apart from Oval Invincibles, Manchester Originals will also change their name to Manchester Super Giants next year, and Northern Superchargers will have Sunrisers in their name. It has been reported that Sunrisers Leeds has been considered as an alternative to keeping 'Northern". view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
