Cyriel Dessers throws open Rangers transfer door with major caveat as Ibrox 'bucket list' revealed
Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers admits he would be open to a return to Belgium after previously holding talks with Club Brugge.
But the Nigeria international says it is too early to make the move away from Ibrox.
The 30-year-old has been tipped for a move away from Rangers throughout the summer with Greek side AEK interest booted out by Rangers.
And with Hamza Igamane facing a uncertain future amid interest from Lille and Feyenoord, a departure for last season's top scorer would leave Danilo as the only option for Russell Martin up front.
And speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, Belgium-born Dessers has revealed the Light Blues' Champions League playoff rivals have previously made contact to sign him.
The former OH Leuven and Lokeren frontman said: "There were indeed two contacts with Club (Brugge).
"Once when (Ivan) Leko was manager there, and the last time when I was playing for Cremonese. But that interest never materialised."
Pressed on if he would consider a move back to Belgium - and specifically Club Brugge - Dessers went on: "Why not?
"It's still too early anyway, but I've been living abroad for quite a while and I recently bought a house in Mechelen. There are a few Belgian teams I'm particularly fond of."
KV Mechelen was then floated as a potential destination - and Dessers admits the question has been asked by the club previously. "They asked if I could come play for Mechelen.
"And I don't think my wife and in-laws would mind either. Although we'll have to see how that works out with my career.
"KV Mechelen is a fantastic club. And for the rest, I try to leave as many doors open as possible. You never know what a career will bring."
Dessers goes into the first leg of the £40million Champions League shoot-out as a major injury doubt - and concedes the side are underdogs as he looks to achieve part of his Rangers' dream.
He said: "I think it's clear that Club Brugge is the favourite. They're a team that qualified in the Champions League (for the knockout stage) last year – that's quite something.
"But I don't think we're an easy team to face either. People sometimes look down on the Scottish league – as if there are only two teams – but it's really not that easy here.
"We were also in the quarter-finals of the Europa League last year and, with a bit more luck, could even have reached the semi-finals. Our team is optimistic about this match. We've always been strong in Europe at Ibrox in recent years.
"There are three things on my bucket list: to win the championship, to go to a big tournament with Nigeria and play in the Champions League."

Arsenal fan mistaken for Declan Rice's girlfriend Lauren Fryer says she's been targeted with 'utterly disgusting' abuse about her weight
A body positive influencer who was mistaken for Declan Rice 's girlfriend Lauren Fryer after she met the Arsenal star at a kit launch says she's received so many negative comments she's had to take a break from social media. Football fan Felicity Hayward - who was Britain's first plus-size model - attended an Adidas and Arsenal launch of the Premier League club's third kit last week and posed for a photo wearing the new shirt with the club's star midfielder during a 'meet and greet'. After sharing the image online with her 286,000 followers, Hayward, 37, says the photo was re-captioned by others to suggest it showed Rice with his long-term girlfriend Lauren Fryer - and was then widely shared across social media. Since the photo went viral, the influencer, speaking in a video online, said 'the amount of trolling I've suffered in the last 24 hours has been the worst I've ever had in my whole career'. Hayward said she was subjected to hundreds of comments 'about my appearance and my weight', saying: '95 per cent of them are utterly disgusting and they're coming from full grown men'. In 2024, Lauren Fryer, who has been dating Rice since they were in their teens and shares a son, three, with the player, deleted all of her Instagram pictures after receiving a barrage of abuse online over her appearance. Fryer was taunted over her weight, and told the England international 'could do better'. While the WAG still has 99,000 followers on Instagram, her profile has been private since the incident. After Felicity Hayward posted the image, it quickly went viral - but with an incorrect caption claiming the influencer was Lauren Fryer Hayward said of the social media slurs she's experienced: 'Men need to do better. Even if people thought I was his partner, the way people are speaking about my body online, regardless of who they think is in the image, is utterly disgusting.' The model received dozens of positive comments from supporters following the video post, with one writing: 'Take no notice, you are beautiful.' Daily Mail columnist Bryony Gordon responded: 'I'm so sorry you've had to go through this. You're wonderful and I so appreciate you (also v jealous you got to go to the kit launch and meet Rice!)' Another fan added: 'Don't ever let the haters win. Body confidence is everything. 'It infuriates me that people think they have the right to put people down like they're perfect!' In another football-related trolling incident last week, a host of pundits, former footballers and clubs showed their support for a young teenager who was hit with a barrage of vile abuse after signing her first professional contract. It should have been one of the happiest days of Skye Stout's life when she signed for Scottish side Kilmarnock on Thursday last week, with the club announcing the news on their official social media pages. But just hours after sharing the first pictures of Skye in the blue-and-white kit, Kilmarnock decided to take down the post after a host of trolls flocked to the comments section to mock the young footballer over her facial acne. The shocking wave of abuse has however prompted a number of stars from not only the world of football, but also the entirety of sport, to rally around Skye. And the teenage footballer quickly gave the perfect response to her online trolls: by letting her football do the talking. Bouncing back in style, she silenced them during Kilmarnock Women's Scottish Women's Premier League 2 match against St Johnstone on Sunday. Indeed, the midfielder stepped up and scored a first-half free-kick to make it 4-2. The trolling over her unveiling photos was first brought to light by football organisation Team Grassroots, who said the posts were deleted after a few hours. They said on X: 'Please send your love and support to 16-year-old Skye Stout from Scotland. And don't let the ignorant bullies win. 'Yesterday, the official page of the Scottish club Kilmarnock women's team announced the club had signed a contract with 16-year-old midfielder Skye Stout. 'A grassroots player signing her first pro contract should have been a moment to cherish for her; however, Skye was forced to endure ridicule from ignorant and disrespectful fans who began to humiliate her over her facial acne.' 'Things escalated to the point where the club decided to delete all posts mentioning Skye Stout in an effort to stop the bullying from haters.' Underneath the post, a host of journalists and former players united behind Skye. Jamie Carragher wrote: 'Good luck Skye.' Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen added: 'BE THE BEST, Skye! Go get it!!!' 'Sending our support to Skye, good luck for the new season and an exciting first year in senior football,' Exeter City Women's official account posted. Former Scottish First Minister Hamza Yusef also voiced his support, dubbing the trolls 'sad' and 'pathetic'. He posted: 'Skye Stout has just signed for Kilmarnock. At 16 she has already achieved more than her trolls ever will. 'Imagine being a grown man abusing a 16-year-old? What a sad, pathetic, unhappy life these trolls have.'

Rangers to beat Club Brugge with Champions League specialist on form pays 20/1
The Light Blues are gearing up for another huge night of European action and we pick out the best bets Some Rangers fans are fearing the worst as Club Brugge come calling in the Champions League play-offs. Russell Martin 's side keep coughing up chances for the opposition and even League One Alloa managed to score twice at Ibrox on Saturday. Gers have also conceded to Motherwell and Dundee on domestic duty yet they've managed to see off Panathinaikos and Viktoria Plzen in Europe. They kept clean sheets at Ibrox against both those teams but Brugge are a step up in class. The Belgians outplayed Celtic in the group stage last term and were unlucky to emerge from Parkhead with only a 1-1 draw. That's why McBookie make Brugge 13/10 favourites, with Rangers 13/8 and the draw paying 13/5. The price of an away win is tempting but Martin's side have made a habit of finding a way to get the job done at Ibrox. Going for goals looks a better option, with Brugge winning 3-2 in their last European outing against Salzburg. Combining BTTS and over 2.5 strikes in this one pays a best 21/20 at William Hill. McBookie also priced over 3.5 match goals at 7/4. Both these sides like to get the ball down and play so I'd be surprised if we saw a lot of cards. Betting against both teams picking up two or more cards pays a decent evens at Bet365. Djeidi Gassama has been the go-to guy in Europe for Gers, netting four times. The winger is 13/8 at Bet365 to either score or assist and that looks decent. You could double up the ex Sheffield Wednesday man to score at any time during the game and Rangers to win 2-1, which pays 20/1 with SkyBet.

Every deal Celtic can get done with clock ticking on Champions League transfer deadline
Jamie Vardy has issued a come-and-get-me-plea while two wingers remain top of Brendan Rodgers' wish list It's D-Day for Celtic as Brendan Rodgers looks to add at least one new face to his squad in time for the Champions League playoff. The Hoops have until 11pm on Tuesday night to make two additions to their 25-man squad ahead of Wednesday's first leg blockbuster against Kairat Almaty. Despite being frustrated at the lack of business being done, Rodgers has reiterated his hope that his frontline can be bolstered before the looming deadline - with wingers and a main striker on the shopping list. Vardy, 38, is being chased by several sides with Napoli, West Ham and big-spending Championship new boys Wrexham interested. However, sources suggest the ex-England star - who has been without a club since leaving the Foxes at the end of last season - has set his heart on a stunning switch to Parkhead. Vardy has been keeping himself fit with a personal trainer and is determined to continue playing at the highest level until he's 40. David Strelec is on the radar too and his father believes Slovan Bratislava's elimination from the Champions League could see the Hoops reignite their interest in the hitman, after seeing a January bid thrown out. Milan Strelec said: "When Slovan were trying to win through to the main stages of the Champions League again, the club's management would not consider David's transfer. "Or at least it was not high on their agenda. But now I presume things will start to happen before the August deadline. "Things will start heating up around David again. As far as I know, several clubs are still interested, including Celtic and Middlesbrough and we know both had bids for him in the past. So I am curious what will happen in the remaining few days before the deadline." However, it's believed an agreement is unlikely unless there is a significant drop in the £9million asking price from the Slovakians. Celts have also been alerted to the availability of Feyenoord winger Calvin Stengs. The Netherlands international, 26, has fallen out of favour after an injury-hit couple of seasons and is tipped for an exit in the next fortnight. The door has not yet been shut on long-term target Michel-Ange Balikwisha, and it's understood negotiations with Royal Antwerp are ongoing. Parkhead chiefs remain optimistic that a deal can be struck for the £4.5million-rated winger, who is out of contract next summer. Cluj goal machine Louis Munteanu is among a list of targets, with reports suggesting Celts had a £6.9m bid rejected for the Romania striker earlier in the window. The 23-year-old is currently embroiled in an ongoing pay dispute with his club and was nowhere to be seen in last week's Europa League defeat to Braga. Celtic are overloaded with midfield options but Andy Irving's name refuses to go away, with West Ham willing to do business for a modest £3.5m. The ex-Hearts star, 25, is believed to be drawing interest from Rangers too and looks poised to quit the Hammers in search of more minutes. However, with Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Ben Nygren, Arne Engels, Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo all battling it out for starts, another central midfielder isn't a priority. A deputy left-back for Kieran Tierney is on the agenda, though, and versatile Cagliari defender Adam Obert could fit the bill. The Slovakian international - who can also play centre-back and left mid - is said to be attracting interest from Celtic and in Germany, but would cost around £6m.
