No Family, No English: Indian Woman Missing After Flying To US
A 24-year-old Indian woman who arrived in the United States for a reported arranged marriage has gone missing, authorities have said.
Simran Simran was last seen shortly after her arrival from India in New Jersey on June 20. Surveillance footage reviewed by Lindenwold police showed her checking her phone and seemingly waiting for someone. Officers said she did not appear to be in distress in the video.
Ms Simran was reported missing on Wednesday, five days after her arrival, police confirmed. Officials investigating her disappearance said a preliminary probe revealed she travelled to the US for an arranged marriage.
Authorities are also exploring the possibility that the marriage was an excuse to obtain free airfare to America, as per The NY Post.
Ms Simran has no known relatives in the United States and does not speak English, police said. Her only phone is an international device that functions solely through Wi-Fi. Authorities have so far been unable to reach any family members in India.
"At this time there are no known family members in India to contact to obtain information on her possible whereabouts," Lindenwold police said on Thursday, as per Patch News.
Ms Simran is described as being five feet, four inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds (68 kg), with a small scar on the left side of her forehead. She was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and small diamond-studded earrings.

Sri Lankan Navy arrests 8 Indian fishermen for alleged illegal fishing
The Sri Lankan Navy on Sunday arrested 8 Indian fishermen and seized their trawler for allegedly poaching in the island nation's waters, according to an official release. The arrests were made during a search operation in the north of Mannar, the Navy said in a press release. The eight fishermen and their trawler would be handed over to the Fisheries Inspectorate in Mannar for legal proceedings, it said. 'The North Central Naval Command spotted a group of Indian fishing boats engaging in illegal fishing, trespassing into Sri Lankan waters in the early hours of today. In response, the North Central Naval Command deployed its Inshore Patrol Craft to drive away those Indian fishing boats from island waters, north of Mannar,' it said. Fishermen from both India and Sri Lanka are arrested frequently for inadvertently trespassing into each other's waters. The fishermen issue is a contentious one in the ties between India and Sri Lanka, with Lankan Navy personnel even firing at Indian fishermen in the Palk Strait and seizing their boats in several alleged incidents of illegally entering the island nation's territorial waters. The Palk Strait, a narrow strip of water separating Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka, is a rich fishing ground for fishermen from both countries.

Delhi: Two robbery accused injured in encounter with Police
ANI 29 Jun 2025, 16:51 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Two persons accused of robbery were injured in an encounter with Delhi Police inside Aastha Kunj Park, near Kalkaji Temple in the national capital, police said on Sunday. According to Delhi Police, the encounter took place at 5 am in the Aastha Kunj Park, where the two accused were shot in the leg. Police received information about the whereabouts of the accused, after which they surrounded them. The accused fired at Special Staff Inspector RS Dagar and a Head Constable, after which police fired in retaliation and caught the accused. The two accused, identified as Akshay and Jatin, allegedly looted an American citizen at knifepoint in the South Delhi area a few days ago. In the early hours of Juen 26, a US citizen was robbed after being stabbed in his hand, after which he was admitted to a hospital. He was accompanied by his Indian woman friend during the time of the incident. According to Delhi Police, several other cases of robbery have been registered against the two accused. (ANI)
