Daily Record26-05-2025

The colourful controllers have been slashed by varying percentages on the retailer's website.
A gamer's most important tool, a good controller is of the highest importance for Xbox users- but along with practicality, a colourful controller can add a piece of personal style to any gaming set-up. And luckily, Amazon is currently offering generous discounts on a range of wireless Xbox remotes.
The discounted Xbox controllers come in black, pink, red, white, blue and green, and Amazon also offers another black remote that comes with a USB-C cable for charging. Usually varying between £55-£60, all the colour options are currently on offer.
The black remote that comes with a USB-C cable is currently 27 per cent off, reduced from £54.55 to £39.95. The Carbon Black controller is now 34 per cent off at £35.99, the Deep Pink remote is 31 per cent off at £40.49, and the Pulse Red Series X controller is 38 per cent off at £40.49.
The white controller is down by 40 per cent to £35.99, the Shock Blue has been slashed by 38 per cent to £40.49, and the green controller is 26 per cent off at £40.49.
All the colour options and prices can be explored here.
The black controller's product description on Amazon reads: "Experience the modernized design of the Xbox Wireless Controller - Carbon Black, featuring sculpted surfaces and refined geometry for enhanced comfort and effortless control during gameplay.
"Stay on target with textured grip on the triggers, bumpers, and back case and with a new hybrid D-pad for accurate, yet familiar input. Make the controller your own by customizing button mapping with the Xbox Accessories app."
Those browsing alternative options for colourful Xbox controllers may opt for the Xbox Series X & S Wireless Controller in the colour Astral Purple, which is now on offer for £44.99.
Argos also offers the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 in red for a more expensive £124.99.
But the Amazon options are raking in the positive reviews.
One happy shopper deemed it the 'best controller ever', saying: "The feel is great and it's a good value for money with the compatibility being great and the size is perfect to fit into ur hands and the weight is just perfect not to heavy and not to light and it's so waxy to use and compatibility is so easy for travel."
Another said: "Very nice controllers. They work perfectly with Steam and we've been using them to play through Steam link with a fire stick, and it just works perfect.
"Will definitely buy more when the other two of them stop working."
But not everyone is a fan of the Xbox controllers.
A less happy gamer said: "I had this controller for about 3 months and the the right bumper broke so I had to get a replacement. The replacement controller that was sent was a second hand one.
"I only used it once and after that it appeared to have a stick drift. I am very disappointed with the quality. I need to send it back again and hope there is still warranty on it."
A happier shopper added: "The Xbox Wireless Controller in Carbon Black is a sleek and refined iteration of a classic design, maintaining the high standards set by its predecessors while introducing subtle improvements that enhance the overall gaming experience."
The discounted Xbox controllers can be browsed on Amazon.

Two leading airlines ban power banks and battery packs on flights

Passengers are now forbidden from charging devices with portable power banks and battery packs while travelling on these two major airlines. Two leading airlines have announced new safety measures which bans passengers from using power banks and battery packs during flights. Power banks come under lithium batteries which pose a fire risk as they can generate extreme heat. Despite this they are generally allowed in your carry-on luggage. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) states that power banks with a capacity of up to 100 watt-hours (Wh) are allowed in carry-on bags, but spare batteries are strictly prohibited in checked luggage to stay in line with safety procedures. Airline passengers are forbidden from carrying more than two spare batteries exceeding two grams of lithium content for lithium metal, or a watt-hour rating exceeding 100 Wh, on board and these must strictly be kept in carry-on luggage only. ‌ However, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways have both introduced new policies that now prohibit passengers from being able to use power banks or battery packs throughout the duration of flights. Singapore Airlines introduced the ban from April 1, meaning passengers can no longer charge their personal electronic devices with a portable power bank or charge power banks using onboard USB ports during flights. ‌ The airline states that passengers must keep power banks in carry-on luggage and are not allowed in checked bags, the Express reports. In an update for passengers, Singapore Airlines added: 'The SIA Group complies with the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations regarding the carriage of power banks, which are classified as lithium batteries. This means power banks must be carried in cabin baggage on all SIA flights and are not permitted in checked baggage. 'Customers may bring power banks with a capacity of up to 100Wh without special approval, while those between 100Wh and 160Wh require airline seek customers' understanding that safety will always be our top priority.' Thai Airways has also banned passengers from both using or charging power banks (spare batteries) during entire flights. ‌ Their new rule came into effect on March 15 and was implemented to 'ensure the highest level of safety for all passengers and crew members'. Passengers are not permitted to carry power banks in checked baggage, but they can do so in their carry-on luggage providing it meets certain requirements. ‌ The airline states: 'Strict security measures had been imposed in compliance with guidelines set by IATA regarding dangerous items, including spare batteries. Details are as follows: 'Spare batteries in carry-on baggage. THAI allows spare batteries in carry-on baggage, with battery capacities of less than 20,000 milliamp-hours (mAh) or 100 Wh. Spare batteries with capacities of 20,000-32,000 mAh or 100-160 Wh, passengers can take up to two packs in a carry-on baggage. A spare battery of more than 32,000 mAh or 160 Wh is prohibited in carry-on baggage. 'A spare battery is prohibited to be loaded in baggage checked-in in all case.'

Meater Pro Duo review: The essential smart thermometer for perfect BBQs

Al fresco cooking brings with it an extra element of stress. When the sun is shining, the playlist is blasting, and your friends and family are feeling good, there's no bigger dampener than dry chicken or overcooked steak. It's the one sure way to ruin the seasonal jovial spirit. This is where MEATER comes in. The brand is known for its smart meat thermometer, a probe which you place inside the grilling meat and, via the accompanying phone app, reveals all you need to know about how ready your carnivorous feast is. It doesn't require a fancy barbecue, nor a Cordon Bleu diploma, to treat your guests to some serious tender food. Genius. The end pointy part of the probe is the temperature sensor. It is to be placed in the thickest part of the meat and has a max reach of 105°C. The other, thicker end is the ambient temperature sensor, which can reach up to 550°C, which should be fine as long as you are not placing it inside an extremely hot pizza oven. Both are stored and charged inside the sleek wooden case that is just too sophisticated to keep in a drawer. To juice up the probes, you use the accompanying USB-C charging cable provided, which has a USB-A on the other end for ease. The two lights illuminate to show whether they are fully charged. The probes, annoyingly, do not come fully charged and ready to use. But it is a fast charger, so you should be able to get two hours of cooking after just five minutes plugged in. The app walks you through every stage. You begin by selecting the meat in question. Notifications reveal when it is ready to flip or remove from the heat, with alerts throughout the cooking process to make it foolproof even for the most amateur of chefs, like myself. There is even a timer for resting and instructions regarding reverse searing to maximise the flavour of every bite. I started small and easy; chicken to be paired with salad for a simple mid-week dinner. I am quite the hypochondriac when it comes to cooking chicken to avoid the dreaded pink undercooking, and as such, I find I often leave it too long in the oven, and it's dry and chewy. The MEATER Pro Duo sorts this. Inserting the probe into the thickest part of the breast (you place it in as if you were butterflying the meat) and determining how well-cooked I wanted it on the app, I was then notified when it was ready to be removed from the heat, all while I caught up with the previous night's Love Island. The brand has extended the range of the thermometers for full home coverage - something that will come very welcome when the mercurial British summer turns into a rainshower.
