Egypt-based Burullus Gas Company has commenced production from the Sparrow West-1 well in the Mediterranean Sea as part of ongoing efforts to enhance natural gas output.
The well, located in the West Delta Deep Marine concession, is the second to come online in Phase 11 of the development project operated by Rashpetco in collaboration with Shell and Petronas. This update follows the successful connection of the Siena DE-1 well, with both contributing to a combined output of 80 million cubic feet of gas per day over the past three weeks.
Sparrow West-1 is projected to produce approximately 40 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, with initial testing confirming technical expectations. The development plan aims to increase daily gas output by up to 130 million cubic feet once all scheduled wells are online. Work is currently underway to accelerate the launch of a third well, targeted for production by September.
The new production is expected to improve network efficiency and bolster the performance of adjacent wells. It also supports efforts to meet peak domestic demand during the summer months and to curb reliance on imported gas. The Ministry of Petroleum reaffirmed its commitment to advancing investment in the gas sector and strengthening cooperation with international partners to optimise local resources and production capacity.

Midar partners with Adeer to develop Boulevard project in Mostakbal City with EGP 70bn investment

Midar for Investment and Urban Development, the master developer of Mostakbal City and MADA City in East Cairo, has announced the signing of a strategic revenue-sharing agreement with Adeer International, a subsidiary of Saudi-based Sumou Holding. The partnership will see the development of an integrated mixed-use urban project spanning over half a million square metres in Mostakbal City, with total investments exceeding EGP 70bn. Ayman ElKousey, CEO and Managing Director of Midar, highlighted the company's commitment to partnering with leading investors and developers who have proven track records in local and regional markets. He noted that Midar's cities—Mostakbal City and MADA—continue to position themselves as top investment destinations in New Cairo, attracting dozens of major investors over recent years thanks to their unique offering focused on sustainability, luxury, and smart infrastructure management. ElKousey added that the agreement reflects Sumou Holding's confidence in Midar's vision and projects. It comes as part of a broader investment alliance launched earlier this year, which brought together Midar, Sumou Investment, Adeer International, and Hassan Allam Properties to develop luxury hospitality and entertainment projects across premium Nile-front locations and within Midar's cities, with total investments of $2bn as announced in the memorandum of understanding signed at the start of the year. He also noted that unveiling the new project during a meeting between the leadership of Sumou Holding Group and Midar, alongside Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, demonstrates the high level of official attention the project is receiving, as well as the extensive government coordination aimed at ensuring the successful completion of all its phases. ElKousey stressed that the meeting reflected the Egyptian state's commitment to supporting serious investments and overcoming any challenges that might slow progress in key projects. Commenting on the announcement, Bassel El Serafy, CEO of Adeer International, said: 'Our partnership with Midar is built on a shared strategic vision and deep mutual trust in Egypt's real estate and investment potential. Boulevard is not just a flagship development; it represents a long-term ambition to redefine modern living in Egypt through fully integrated, sustainable, and smart urban planning.' El Serafy also announced the establishment of a new joint venture between Adeer International and Paragon Developments to lead the Boulevard project. This step forms part of Sumou Holding's wider strategy—executed through Sumou International Investment—to foster impactful Egyptian-Saudi partnerships, transfer expertise, and deliver flexible, future-ready urban models aligned with the sustainable development goals of both countries.

Amb. Ahmed Abu Zeid: Egypt-EU Partnership as Model for Cooperation & Development in Middle East

Interview by Mohamed Wadie In the context of the extensive and complex relations between Egypt and the European Union, which have roots spanning decades, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid's role in Brussels stands out as a central link between Cairo and Brussels. These relations, considered a model of comprehensive strategic partnership, cover diverse fields including economy, security, culture, and education. In our interview with Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, we review the depth and dimensions of this partnership, highlight key milestones in its development, and discuss the challenges and opportunities it faces amid current geopolitical and economic changes. Egyptian-European Relations: A Historical Continuity and Diverse Fields of Cooperation Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid explains that the relations between Egypt and Europe are not a recent development but are deeply rooted historically and extend over many decades, covering numerous areas such as economy, security, culture, and migration. These relations were founded on the Egypt-European Partnership Agreement signed in 2004, which established specialized committees covering trade, transport, migration, as well as technological and educational issues. The importance of continuous political dialogue is also emphasized through the Joint Cooperation Council between the Egyptian Foreign Minister and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: A Turning Point A decisive turning point came last year with the signing of the comprehensive strategic partnership, which elevated the level of relations between Egypt and the European Union to new heights. This partnership is granted to only a limited number of countries, confirming Egypt's importance as the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to receive this distinguished status, reflecting Egypt's pivotal role for the EU and vice versa. European Financial Support to Egypt: A Comprehensive Package for Economic Stability Ambassador Abu Zeid focuses on the financial support package decided by the EU for Egypt under this partnership, totaling 5 billion euros, including 1.8 billion euros in direct financial support, investment guarantees, and grants for migration projects amounting to 200 million euros. The package is divided into two tranches: the first tranche (1 billion euros) was disbursed at the end of last year, and the second (4 billion euros) was recently approved by the European Parliament and the European Council to begin disbursing before the end of this year. This support comes at a critical time amid global and regional economic crises, including food and energy crises and maritime security tensions affecting the Suez Canal and Egypt's economic returns. The disbursement is contingent on a comprehensive economic reform program done in cooperation with the IMF, which required extensive negotiations with European parliamentarians to ensure proper management that benefits Egypt and the region. Geopolitical Challenges and Their Impact on Egyptian-European Cooperation The ambassador points to regional and global challenges facing both Egypt and the EU, such as conflicts in the Middle East, peace crises, and the Russia-Ukraine war, which have caused disruptions in supply chains, energy, and food. These crises require multilateral diplomatic dialogue to maintain stability and peace, demonstrating the importance of the strategic partnership in confronting shared challenges. He also stresses the need for the European Parliament to understand Egypt's regional role in supporting peace and conflict resolution, which builds credibility and growing support for these relations. Future Prospects: The Upcoming Summit and Partnership Dynamics Egypt and the EU view the coming period as an opportunity to strengthen the partnership, especially with the first summit within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership, expected to create strong dynamics in relations and rearrange priorities and political, economic, and security interests for both parties. This summit comes at a time when the region and the world face complex challenges that require combined efforts amid financial and debt crises, international law challenges, and security and economic issues. This dialogue reflects a clear vision and confidence in the depth of the Egypt-EU partnership, founded on shared interests and mutual support in facing contemporary challenges. Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, with his extensive diplomatic experience, provides an objective and comprehensive picture of today's Egypt-European relations and their vital future. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language

Dubai's Fashion Rerun Is Giving Preloved Clothing a Second Life

Dubai's Fashion Rerun Is Giving Preloved Clothing a Second Life In 2017 Dubai, the concept of walking into a boutique thrift store and shopping for secondhand clothing was not only foreign to locals, it was completely unimaginable. The emirate was preoccupied with its Dubai Bling-esque fantasies, and people sought individuality in luxury. That is the world that Dubai-based vintage and thrift shop Fashion Rerun was born into, tasked with reframing thrifting as a creative counterpoint to luxury. Fashion Rerun was founded by Muhammad Virji, who initially got into the thrifting business in 2003 Toronto after getting his computer networking degree, reselling secondhand finds from sorting facilities at flea markets. At the time, Virji viewed reselling purely as a way to make money as a fresh grad, not yet aware of the environmental and social significance of what he was doing. After managing a sorting and grading facility in Dubai, Virji found himself face to face with a mound of manufactured clothing on the daily, prompting him to think about how that impacted the world we live in. 'We were sorting through 40,000 kilograms of clothing a day,' he tells SceneStyled. 'That's when I realised—I had to do something.' With the help of his wife and her keen eye for design, as well as his experience with secondhand clothing, Virji founded Fashion Rerun and opened the first store in Satwa—but the journey was far from over. To get Fashion Rerun off the ground, Virji had to convince people that secondhand didn't mean second best. 'People weren't really aware of how unsustainable their shopping habits were. The more we educated them about it, and about how buying secondhand clothing means your pieces are one of a kind, the more they opened up to the idea.' To the small population that actually already enjoyed shopping secondhand, Fashion Rerun was a saving grace. It was the first shop in the region to do what it does, which meant thrift-enthusiasts no longer had to do their secondhand shopping in Europe or the US. From that mountain of daily clothing, Fashion Rerun picks pieces by tracking trends—or just following a gut feeling. 'Sometimes, it's just a gut feeling. You see a piece and you just know that someone is going to love it.' Fashion Rerun started with thrift—recently manufactured clothes worn once or twice and tossed away. But then came the art. 'At first, we were only mending clothes out of necessity, but we realised a thousand people could do that. So, we decided to incorporate our own art into the clothing, adding colourful patchwork and fun stitching to pieces that needed saving.' That creative shift birthed a second brand: EFAAR—short for 'Environmentally Friendly and Artistically Reworked'. 'We got to create our own streetwear brand, while also giving clothes at the end of their life a second chance.' EFAAR gained a lot of popularity, and both it and Fashion Rerun quickly became an integral part of Dubai's sartorial culture, joining community events and huge global happenings like Sole DXB. Now with a second store in Goshi Warehouse City, Fashion Rerun has come full circle. Or almost. Except—the learning never stops. The team behind Fashion Rerun continues to educate more people about the impact of shopping secondhand clothing, of what it means to save these garments, and of how shopping secondhand can introduce people to clothes with character and, occasionally, pieces that are entirely one-of-a-kind—like the time Virji found a rare Marvel X Men t-shirt from the 1990s. Throughout its journey, Fashion Rerun has always been intent on interacting with the community, getting live feedback about what people want to see so they can supply it, and creating their own community of secondhand shoppers in the process. Now, though, the questions are getting a little different. 'We're always asked why vintage clothing is so expensive, if it's secondhand. Vintage isn't expensive because it's old; it's expensive because it's rare, unique, and limited by nature. Only 0.5% of our daily sorting is classified as real vintage. Vintage is secondhand, but not all secondhand is vintage.' In a city obsessed with the new, Fashion Rerun reminds us that style can have a past—and still be the future.
