Girl found dead near rly tracks, kin move HC for CB-CID probe
Chennai: The parents of a 14-year-old girl from a
Cuddalore
village, who was found dead near the railway tracks at Velankanni in Nagapattinam district on April 29, have sought
Madras high court
intervention for a
CB-CID probe
into the matter.
In their petition, the agricultural labourers alleged negligence and a possible cover-up, saying police buried the body without proper identification and dismissed their pleas for an investigation.
They said the girl eloped with her boyfriend Dinesh on April 21 after telling them she was visiting the Velankanni temple. On April 29, she called her father from an unknown number, saying Dinesh had fallen unconscious after drinking and that she needed money to return home.
Her mother agreed to send funds online, but the girl abruptly disconnected the call. Subsequent calls to the number were answered by an unidentified man who refused to cooperate, citing pending police cases against him.
When Dinesh contacted them asking about the girl's whereabouts, suspicion grew. The parents lodged a missing complaint at Vadalur police station on May 1 but were told to approach the Velankanni police who sent them back to Vadalur.

On May 8, during another visit to Velankanni police station, they saw their daughter's photograph on a notice board, but police insisted it was that of a 35-year-old Muslim woman who died by suicide on April 29.
Inquiries at Nagapattinam railway police station showed the body was buried as "unidentified" after minimal investigation. Authorities said they had published a small newspaper advertisement. CCTV camera footage obtained by the parents showed the girl with an unidentified man clad in a saffron dhoti and limping a lead they alleged police ignored.
The parents, who suspect foul play including possible rape and murder, alleged that on their way to the Nagapattinam collectorate on May 9, GRP officials intercepted them, offering ₹5 lakh to drop the matter. They said they protested and headed to Chennai where they slept at Koyambedu bus terminus before filing through advocate M Mani a petition in Madras high court demanding a CB-CID probe, exhumation for a second autopsy by independent medical experts, and the return of the body for proper last rites.

Raja Raghuvanshi murder case: Three mothers grieve after honeymoon turns deadly
What began as a dreamy honeymoon for an Indore-based couple in Meghalaya has unravelled into a sordid saga of murder and betrayal, leaving three families heartbroken. The shocking death of 29-year-old Indore transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi has ripped open a dark secret, plunging three mothers into unimaginable grief. As Meghalaya Police peel the layers of this horrific crime, the narrative points to a "murder of trust" within the most intimate of relationships. The duo had hired three killers to execute the plan. Uma Raghuvanshi stands by her son Raja's garlanded photograph, her face a mask of grief and bewildered anger. Live Events "Initially, we couldn't believe that my daughter-in-law Sonam could get my son Raja killed," she told PTI, her voice trembling. "But we are slowly starting to believe it now." The questions that haunt her is, "If Sonam liked another boy, why didn't she refuse to marry Raja? Why did she kill my son?" The two got married on May 11 and left for honeymoon on May 20. During the probe, it emerged that Sonam herself had planned the trip to Meghalaya. "I didn't know that my son would return from Meghalaya as a dead body," Uma said while crying inconsolably and recalling the warm send-off the day the couple left, little knowing that it would turn into a tragic farewell. The family was completely unaware of Raj Kushwaha's existence before the Meghalaya police investigated the case. Miles away from Raja's residence, in a small rented house in Indore, Raj Kushwaha's mother, Chunni Devi, is also inconsolable, along with her three daughters. "My son is innocent. He has been framed. How can a 20-year-old boy commit such a big crime? He is the only breadwinner in our house after my husband passed away," she told PTI. She also claimed that her son even attended Raja Raghuvanshi's funeral procession and returned home in tears. "My son was saddened by Raja Raghuvanshi's death and even went to his funeral procession. After returning from the funeral procession, he was crying a lot. I had consoled him that everything will be fine and what is the use of crying now," the mother of the alleged main conspirator said. Sonam's maternal home in Indore's Govind Nagar Kharcha area is in a different kind of shock. Her family runs a business dealing in Sunmica sheets, where Raj Kushwaha, a 12th-grade dropout, worked as an accountant. Sonam's mother, Sangeeta, was reluctant to speak to the media. "False allegations are being made against my daughter. I cannot say right now what might have happened to Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya?" she muttered. The mother of Sonam, the alleged main accused, demanded that there should be a detailed investigation into the murder of her son-in-law. Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam were reported missing on May 23 and days later, the body of the newlywed groom was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra, also known as Cherrapunji, in the East Khasi Hills district. Sonam surrendered to the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district, while Raj Kushwaha and three other accused were apprehended in various parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Meghalaya Police is probing every detail of this case. However, for the three mothers whose lives have been irrevocably shattered, the tears continue to flow.

KMC's anti-vagabond drive runs into resistance, ops called off
1 2 3 Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and cops on Tuesday started a drive, for the first time this year, to oust pavement dwellers from several prime city areas but faced stiff resistance and called off the drive. Though the civic officials and cops during the special drive seized belongings of around 200 pavement dwellers, the civic officials finally convinced only five such dwellers to go to the KMC-run shelter house. According to plans, three different KMC teams started the drive from three locations: Park Circus-Beckbagan zone, Ballygunge-Gariahat zone, and Hazra-Alipore zone. When the civic officials and cops reached the Park Circus-Beckbagan belt and asked the pavement dwellers to move out of the approach road to AJC Bose Road, they fled. The civic officials seized their belongings and moved forward. When the cops and civic officials were busy playing a cat-and-mouse game in the Park Circus area, the second team in the Gariahat area faced real trouble as the pavement dwellers under the flyover turned violent. The cops present in large numbers helped the civic officials in removing their belongings. The pavement dwellers refused to move from the space, expressing their inability to move to a shelter house in the Kalighat area. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play Chess on Your PC, Free Play Classic Chess Install Now Undo In the Hazra-Alipore belt, sensing a civic drive, some pavement dwellers fled. Later, the KMC brass sent officials from its social welfare department and roped in a couple of NGOs that work among the homeless to conduct counselling so that the defiant pavement dwellers accept the civic proposal and leave the space. "We gave strict instructions to our officials and the cops not to do bodily damage to any of the pavement dwellers even if they don't fall in line. We have sought help from two NGOs who have experience in handling such issues. We hope this will yield some sort of results," said a senior civic official. However, the KMC brass has asked the cops to keep a constant vigil on the pavement dwellers and get ready for fresh drives in the coming weeks. According to a KMC source, the civic body planned a major drive to remove pavement dwellers after receiving frequent calls from across the city complaining about illegal encroachment of roads and spaces under flyovers. "We planned to conduct a raid only to clear roads and civic infrastructures. The complainants also expressed their apprehensions about the law-and-order situation at night. But we don't want the pavement dwellers to be deprived of their right to shelter. We have kept several shelter homes ready for them," said a KMC official. According to a KMC social welfare department official, the department runs seven such shelter homes across the city. Sources said the civic body planned to accommodate pavement dwellers from the Gariahat-Ballygunge zone at the Kalighat shelter home and dwellers from Park Circus-Beckbagan at a Beleghata shelter home.
