Afshan Ansari is currently absconding and carries a reward of Rs 50,000 on her head. Live Events "Upon learning of the fraudulent activity, a case was registered against Umar Ansari at the Mohammadabad police station, with charges filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)," read the statement. According to police sources, a team of Ghazipur police arrested Umar Ansari from Lucknow. Cases against Umar Ansari Upon learning about the forged documents, police registered an FIR number Muhammadabad Police Station in Ghazipur. The charges against Umar fall under sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Senior police officers confirmed his custody and said that further investigation and action is underway. This is the sixth case lodged against Umar Ansari. The past five cases include charges of cheating, forgery, damage to public property, and violation of the poll code during the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2022. Meanwhile, his elder brother Abbas Ansari was sentenced to two years in jail in a three-year-old case related to a controversial speech in which he allegedly threatened government officials on May 31. However he got bail by the court later. Abbas was later disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Abbas, was elected MLA on a Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) ticket and made the remarks at a public meeting during the 2022 Assembly election period. He has eight other cases in his name. He was caught red-handed with his wife in Chitrakoot jail, where police recovered foreign currency.

Bid to smuggle panchaloha idol to Lanka foiled, two held

THOOTHUKUDI: Personnel of Q branch police on Saturday foiled a bid by two people to smuggle a panchaloha Vishnu idol, worth Rs 30 lakh, to Sri Lanka via Trespuram. The suspects were identified as M Antony Raj (52) of Korkai and T Balamurugan (35) of Kottarakurichi near Eral. Sources said Q branch personnel received a tip-off about the smuggling attempt and conducted checks at Anna Colony in Tresepuram on Saturday evening and detained the suspects. The idol was seized. The Vishnu idol measures 34 cm in height, 14 cm in width and weighs approximately 3 kg. Sources said the idol may be from Vijayanagar empire era and could be at least 300 years old, adding examination by archaeologists would reveal the exact period. The case has been handed over to Thoothukudi North police. The two suspects were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody. After their statements are recorded, police will transfer the case to idol wing.
