I bought Ian Fleming's incredible UK beach home for under £1million – now I'm selling up because it's ‘too small'

A JAMES Bond superfan who snapped up Ian Fleming's former seaside home for less than £1million is putting it back on the market – because he says it's no longer big enough for his family.
Mermaid Cottage, the striking 1920s Art Deco house in St Margaret's Bay, Kent, was once owned by both Bond creator Ian Fleming and legendary playwright Noel Coward.

It's now up for sale with a guide price of £1.75million.
Fleming is believed to have written part of Moonraker at the property between 1951 and 1957, taking inspiration from the surrounding cliffs and coastline for the novel's dramatic setting.
Its villain, Hugo Drax, constructs his deadly Moonraker rocket just outside Dover, near Deal.
Coward had owned the house previously and renamed it 'White Cliffs' after restoring it following wartime damage by British and Canadian troops preparing for D-Day.
He spent around £2,000 reinforcing the chalk cliffs and reportedly found his love of painting during his years there, according to Dover Museum.
The house passed to Fleming in 1951, becoming his weekend and holiday escape.
It remained in private hands until 2008, when current owner Mark Sawyer spotted it during a visit to Kent with his then-partner.
The 56-year-old, who works in private equity, first glimpsed the village while swimming the Channel in a team relay: 'I distinctly remember the captain of the boat saying, 'There's St Margarets, it's a really pretty village'. I saw it from the water for the first time.'
Although the house wasn't officially on the market, the couple fell in love with it and persuaded the estate agent to take it off the books immediately with a £20,000 deposit.
They bought it for £800,000 and have since spent around £1million on renovations, including buying land to extend the garden.
'I'm a massive Bond fan. For me that was the cherry on the cake,' Sawyer said.
'Most people say when we're down there: squint and you could be in the Mediterranean,' he added.
'In the winter, the bay is so much quieter.
"You sit there with the log-burning stove roaring with a storm blowing outside.

"You're immersed in nature.
"The only land you can see from our living room is France.'
His partner Lara Jewitt, a Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist, helped design the garden, which echoes the style of Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage.
The couple bought land from the council in 2014 to create it, but soon ran out of space.
'We developed every square inch down there, and we just wanted a bit more room,' Sawyer said.
'I never thought I would sell it, to be honest with you. It has three bedrooms, and that is too small to have both of my children back, potentially in the future with their partners, and my family to stay.'
Not everyone is pleased about the decision.
'My daughter is still not talking to me since I told her I am selling it,' he admitted. 'She'll get over it eventually.'
Strutt & Parker, who are handling the sale, describe Mermaid Cottage as a 'breathtaking location' with a 'rich history of famous connections.'

One Tree Hill star Jana Kramer reacts to rumor her husband Allan Russell is on the Bumble dating app

Jana Kramer says she isn't worried about rumors her husband is stepping out on her. The 72 Hours actress, whose husband Allan Russell, 41, revealed some very personal information about their sex life, opened up about the issue Monday in her Whine Down podcast. 'I literally trust Allan so much. Did you get the email about Bumble?' Kramer, 41, asked her co-host, claiming that someone had been impersonating the former Scottish soccer player on the dating app. 'Remember how there was this thing going around being like, "Oh, Allan is on a dating app?" And Allan and I were joking about it. It's hilarious,' she said. Showing her trust in her husband, she said, 'But I wouldn't even look into that now. In years past, I would have 1,000 percent looked into it.' However, the One Tree Hill alumna said there is still some cause for concern, as there is allegedly ''a fake Bumble account going around and they're using his picture.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jana Kramer (@kramergirl) She explained, 'There's not a piece of me' that believes the rumors. Kramer said her marriage to Russell is 'so different than my last one' to former Buffalo Bills tight-end Mike Caussin, 38, who was unfaithful to her several times and eventually entered into treatment for sex addiction. The couple were married from 2015–2021, and they share two children: Jolie, nine, and Jace, six. Kramer's first marriage to Michael Gambino, 47, was a violent one. Gambino was convicted on attempted murder charges after a 2005 incident in which he choked the actress until she was unconscious. He was released in 2010 and took his own life two years later. She shared a short-lived one-month marriage with That Thing You Do actor Johnathon Schaech in 2010. Kramer began dating Russell is January 2023, and by November of that year they had welcomed their son Roman, 21 months. They married legally in January 2024 and held a formal ceremony in July. 'Happy 1st wedding anniversary my love,' Kramer wrote on social media last month sharing photos from their big day. 'It's been a year full of love, growth, and adventure. Thank you for loving me the way you do and for making this first year more beautiful than I ever imagined. I wouldn't want to do life with anyone else. Happy anniversary my love.' 'We have everything to last,' she said Monday of her relationship with Russell. 'I didn't have anything to hold on to in my last marriages. So that's why it's so different. So, it's like, hold on now to what you know to be the truth of what you do have.'

I tried James Dyson's new hair oil. Is it as good as his hairdryer?

He's the British megabrain whose £300 vacuum cleaner-inspired hairdryer put lesser rivals to shame but can James Dyson convince us to switch up the products we use to nourish our locks? The inventor has dabbled with hair products before, in the form of his Chitosan styling cream, but his latest innovation is perhaps the buzziest beauty launch of the year so far. • Read more beauty product reviews and advice from our experts Dyson Omega hair oil is a blend of seven omega-rich oils, one of which is sourced from sunflowers grown on his Lancashire farm. Provenance has long been a buzzword in the food world; Dyson appears to be banking on it catching on in — and disrupting — the beauty aisles. It will cost £45.99 for what looks like a 30ml glass perfume bottle and is part of a new range that includes a £59.99 leave-in conditioning spray. They won't be launched until August 27 but I managed to secure both products before their global unveiling and I'm putting each to the test. First I spritz the leave-in spray on after a shampoo and a quick towel-dry. It's lightweight and silky. I find that the knots come away easily when I then run my hairbrush through it: big tick. There's no sticky residue and, even damp, my hair feels soft and workable. It smells nice but not remarkable. That's no bad thing — there's no hair health science behind a nice scent. I'd happily leave it there on a normal day — air-dried hair is a bit cooler than full blow-outs at the mo — but I'm keen to see how the spray reacts with heat. With my usual finger zhuzhing, paddle brush and hairdryer handiwork, it dries straight, smooth and with a nice bit of volume. In short, it does its job. • Summer's richest pickings in the M&S cyber-fallout sale Next, the hair oil. It can be used on damp hair but I'm more interested in what it adds post-styling. I work 3-4 drops through my hair, paying particular attention to the ends and more frizz-prone undergrowth. Again, it's effective: my hair looks shiny and smooth, and isn't weighed down. There are no flyaways. My husband pays it a compliment as we pass in the kitchen. However, I'm not entirely convinced it's transformative. I suspect it's only Dyson fanatics who won't think twice about parting with nearly £50 for it. Still, given that over the past decade Dyson's hairstyling tools have so thoroughly crowbarred themselves into blow-dry routines globally — the Supersonic hairdryer (£329) and Airwrap curler (£400) in particular — and are the bestselling hair electricals at John Lewis, there are plenty of those fanatics around. Matt Willis reveals huge setback of hosting Love Is Blind ahead of series two as wife Emma shares health update after op

AFTER 25 years of being best-known as Busted's bassist, Matt Willis now has new global fame. Fronting Netflix's Love Is Blind UK, with wife Emma, seems to have eclipsed his band's success of four chart-topping singles and a number one album in just one year. 2 Matt said with a laugh: 'Busted did a tour at the end of last year, we did Australia, Japan, Mexico and Brazil. 'And we had a few people turn up and go, 'We didn't know you were in a band. We know you from Love Is Blind, so we thought we'd come and see your band'. 'I was like, 'Cool, welcome'. I love it.' Matt and Emma are back to present a second series of the show that follows singles who try to find their perfect partner, sight unseen, to get engaged and marry on the show. It is Emma's first big project on screen since undergoing keyhole surgery earlier this year to repair a hole in her heart. Love Is Blind UK was filmed last year and now she is well enough to be out promoting the run. She said: 'It's really nice to be back. It was nice to have a little time off to recover and focus on what I needed to do. But now it's full steam ahead and back to work, which is nice.' Two couples from series one are still happily married, so are Matt and Emma worried about delivering on series two, which drops on Netflix from August 13? Emma said: 'We filmed it straight after the reunion for series one so the characters from season one were so fresh. I was like, 'How are we ever going to match that?' ' Matt added: 'Watching it happen, being part of the show, you're just rooting for them.' Love is Blind UK podcast gets a new host Despite the trend for shows to have celebrity spin-offs, Emma doesn't think that could ever work here. She said: 'You'd constantly be trying to guess who it was, wouldn't you? 'There'd be certain people that you'd absolutely know who it was. Imagine if Rylan was in there, or Alan Carr. 'You'd be like, 'That's f***ing Rylan!' ' 2
