NJ dad beaten to death in front of teen daughter after confronting family friend, his son over alleged assault
A beloved New Jersey dad was beaten to death with a baseball bat and hammer in front of his teen daughter outside the home of her alleged 17-year-old assailant and his father on Easter Sunday.
Louis 'Gus' Serbeck went over to Eric Hannah's Vineland home on April 20 with his daughter, Brooke Serbeck, 19, after she told him she was assaulted by Hannah's 17-year-old, identified as JH, the day before, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office wrote in a press release.
According to authorities, the 54-year-old bodybuilder from Millville intended to have a conversation with the teen over his daughter's claims, but the confrontation quickly turned violent.

JH and Serbeck 'engaged in a physical altercation' at the front door of the Hannah home before the teen allegedly grabbed a metal baseball bat and struck him in the head several times.
Eric Hannah also joined in on the assault, prosecutors alleged.

Hannah then allegedly grabbed a metal flashlight and bashed Louis Serbeck in the back of the skull.
Brooke, who watched her father be ganged up on and beaten, was also 'struck in the head by JH' during the chaos.
Officers with the Vineland Police Department and EMS responded to the scene and found Serbeck in critical condition.
The father of two was en route to Inspira Medical Center Vineland when he died, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office revealed.

JH and Hannah were arrested and charged with homicide and weapons offenses on April 21.
JH is also facing an additional charge of Aggravated Assault for striking Serbeck's daughter.
Hannah was booked into the Cumberland County Jail while his son was taken to a juvenile facility. Prosecutors are still determining if JH will be charged as an adult.

Serbeck's brother, Christopher Serbeck, said the devoted dad is remembered for his kindness and being willing to do 'anything for anyone.'
'He would take the shirt off his back and give it to you, just cause you needed it. You call him, he'll be there,' Christopher told 6 ABC Action News while fighting back tears on April 25.
'He literally laid his life down for his daughter.'
Christopher told the outlet that the two families were 'lifelong' friends.

'He went to school with my oldest brother. Known him our whole life,' the grieving brother said. 'No expectations of something like this happening at all.'
Serbeck is also remembered as a devoted father and 'fierce protector' to his two daughters, Summer and Brooke, according to an online obituary.
'Summer and Brooke brought out a tender, loving, compassionate side of Gus that many people never saw before,' his obituary reads. 'He was never happier than when he had one of his daughters in his arms sharing a big smiling cheek-to-cheek hug.'

The beloved father of two was also a grandfather to two boys from his daughter Summer, and 'would be anywhere, Home Depot, Walmart, the flea market, and he'd see something he had to buy for his grandsons. He enjoyed nothing more than spoiling those boys.'
In recent years, Serbeck had grown close to his daughter, Brooke, and the two were 'always together, doing something fun and goofy.'

'He'd call off of work to take her to get her hair or nails done, or to take her shopping because she wanted the newest sneaker. Gus was the epitome of a protecting, providing father,' the post read.

He was also adored for being crafty and 'tinkering around his garage and building something out of nothing.'
'He loved building, he was an efficient carpenter and roofer, who possessed vast knowledge of the building trades that he wasn't afraid to share with anyone willing to listen and learn,' according to his obituary.
Serbeck is remembered by his father, Louis; his two daughters and two grandchildren; his brothers, Rich and Chris; his former wife, Joy, and 'numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.'

Deputies arrest Florence County residential care center employee after EMS workers find facility unstaffed
FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Florence County deputies arrested an employee of a residential care facility on Friday after EMS workers went to the facility and found no staff members on the premises, authorities said. Deputies were called at about 7 a.m. to the Above the Rest Residential Care Facility at 2385 Pamplico Highway. They were eventually able to locate an employee, who they learned had outstanding General Sessions bench warrants, the sheriff's office said. The person, whose name has not been released, was taken to the Florence County Detention Center, deputies said. Additional charges are possible, and more information is expected to be made available as the investigation continues. The sheriff's office was not able to say how many residents lived at the facility. This is a developing story. M&S hack: DragonForce cyber criminals sent abuse-filled ransom demand to retailer's CEO
Marks & Spencer hackers have reportedly sent an abuse-filled ransom demand to the retail giant's boss. The email was sent to M&S chief executive Stuart Machin in broken English on the April 23, according to the BBC. It is said to have been sent from the hacker group DragonForce using an employee email account. 'We have marched the ways from China all the way to the UK and have mercilessly raped your company and encrypted all the servers,' the hackers reportedly wrote. 'The dragon wants to speak to you so please head over to [our darknet website].' The email confirms for the first time that M&S has been hacked by the cybercriminal group. The BBC reports that the message includes a racist term and was sent to Mr Machin and seven other executives. The extortion email reportedly includes a darknet link connecting to a portal for DragonForce victims to begin negotiating the ransom fee. The hackers wrote: 'Let's get the party started. Message us, we will make this fast and easy for us.' M&S has refused to say whether they paid any ransom to the hackers. A spokesperson told The Standard: 'We cannot comment on details of or speculation on the cyber incident, and we have been advised not to.' The retailer was targeted by hackers over Easter, forcing it to stop taking online orders from customers and leaving shelves empty. M&S has said disruption from the 'highly sophisticated' cyber attack is expected to continue through to July, causing losses of around £300million.

Teen survives high-speed chase Othello vehicle theft
Jun. 5—OTHELLO — A 14-year-old boy was involved in a high-speed pursuit Sunday, following the theft of a vehicle in Othello, according to a statement from the Othello Police Department. At approximately 1:49 a.m., Othello police officers noticed a black 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer speeding through a 35-mph zone, prompting a traffic stop due to suspected impaired driving. Officers attempted a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Seventh Avenue. However, the driver accelerated away from the officers, reaching speeds over 70 mph while navigating city streets, running multiple stop signs and red lights and heading towards State Route 26. "Don't risk your future, it's simply not worth it, fleeing creates danger for everyone," Othello PD said in a statement. The perilous chase concluded when the Trailblazer, still traveling at around 70 mph, crashed into cement barricades at the end of the road, flipping at least once before settling. Quick action by Othello EMS and fire services led to the teen being transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Further investigation revealed that the boy, a resident of North Las Vegas, Nev., had stolen the vehicle just minutes before the pursuit while accompanying his father on a work trip. He is now held at Martin Hall Juvenile Facility, facing charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police officers. "Although not the ending we wanted, we are thankful the teen made it out alive," Othello PD said in a statement.
