Palestine Chamber rolls out red carpet for Membership Appreciation banquet
The Palestine Chamber of Commerce is rolling out the red carpet for its members this Friday night for its annual Member Appreciation banquet.
Chamber Director Angela Howell-Fields said this year they wanted to give their members the 'star' treatment.
'We welcomed so many new members this year and want to take this opportunity to show our appreciation to all our members for the participation throughout the year, for the sponsorship throughout the year,' Howell-Fields said.
For this year's banquet, Mario's Mexican Grill will be catering, serving hors d'oeuvres with cocktails starting at 5:30 p.m. Howell-Fields said an elevated meal that highlights Mario's menu will follow later in the evening. She noted that a dessert grazing table will be provided by Somethin' Sweet.
Howell-Fields said this year's banquet will be a laid back evening of mingling and networking with a silent auction and photo booth by Alchemy Creative Arts.
She added the program would start around 6:45 p.m. at which time she will be sharing some Chamber highlights from 2024. There will be an introduction of the Chamber Ambassadors and the board. This will be followed by community awards, including a new award, Educator of the Year.
'It's been a great year for the chamber,' Howell-Fields said. 'Our Junior Ambassador program has been good and the festivals in 2024 both went really well. We brought back our Leadership Palestine program in 2024. It went really well, we had some really good programs and we'll talk about that at the banquet and present the certificates of completion awards to those who are able to attend.'
Single tickets for this year' banquet are still available for $35 per person on the chamber's website, palestinechamber.org.

The Greater Stouffville Chamber's 2025 Annual Dinner brought together local leaders, entrepreneurs, and officials Thursday evening at Station Creek Golf Club for a night of networking, celebration, and forward-looking insights. In his opening remarks, Chamber Executive Director Christian Buhagiar emphasized the organization's growing influence and essential role in the region's business ecosystem. 'Our Chamber continues to grow and expand, ensuring our relevance and our impact,' he said, encouraging attendees to remain active partners as the Chamber advances its work. Buhagiar underscored the need for unity amid global volatility, pointing to inflation, tariffs, and shifting political landscapes as reasons why a strong collective voice is vital. 'Together we create an engaged business community from which we can gather strength, learn, and conduct business,' he told attendees. Prior to the evening's keynote address from Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt, the 2025 Business Excellence Community Award was presented to Mike Feld of Most Excellent Productions for more than a decade of outstanding service in live event production throughout Stouffville. Lovatt delivered a wide-ranging speech highlighting key Town achievements and future priorities. He opened by praising and thanking the municipality's Senior Staff, calling it 'the strongest senior leadership team in the Town's history.' Among the accomplishments of the past year, Lovatt pointed to the opening of Mosaic House . The Housing York project introduced 97 new units to the Region's housing stock, providing stable homes for dozens of families. 'Sadly, 97 is a mere drop in the bucket compared to the 18,000 families still on the list,' Lovatt said. He reaffirmed Housing York's push for a one-third funding model among all levels of government to help move more projects forward. Another milestone was the Memorial Park Multi-Purpose Trail, now a popular all-season amenity. The trail opened last summer for walkers and wheeled users and debuted for ice skating just in time for the holiday season. Partnerships and placemaking also featured prominently in the Mayor's address. He spoke to the Town's five-year memorandum of understanding with York University, as well as the installation of new murals downtown and along the Sculpture Walk. These public art installations are part of an ongoing effort to animate the Downtown's shared spaces. Lovatt celebrated the arrival of more than 20 new businesses in town, citing continued investor confidence and economic opportunity. He also announced Francis & Meyer Candle Co. as the winner of the inaugural Stouffville Village Small Business Challenge , a joint initiative between the Chamber and the Office of the Mayor. The Challenge awarded a $50,000 grant to support the launch of their new storefront. The local business was selected from 20 applicants following a live pitch finale at 19 on the Park. 'You didn't just pitch an idea, you activated the community, and that kind of spark, it's going to grow into something really lasting,' Chamber Vice-President Indu Bains told the winners. The Mayor also praised Stouffville's ranking as No. 13 nationally on the Globe and Mail's 2024 'Canada's Most Livable Cities' list. The municipality was ranked second in Ontario and first in York Region. The Town was also named to Human Resources Director Canada's 'Best Places to Work' list for the first time. 'This recognition highlights our commitment to fostering a supportive and equitable work environment,' Lovatt said. Looking ahead, Mayor Lovatt highlighted key investments in public amenities. These include design work for a second pool at the Leisure Centre, with $1 million allocated, and upgrades to Civic Square. He also mentioned the $9.75 million investment in Fire and EMS Station 5-2 in Ballantrae. Economic development remained a central focus, with Lovatt reaffirming the Town's push to attract industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) employers. 'Attracting ICI businesses remains a top priority of mine,' he said, referencing 1.8 million square feet of employment development in Stouffville's pipeline. He also addressed the Town's ongoing advocacy to open protected Greenbelt lands along the east side of Highway 404 for future business investment, a measure intended to help rebalance the Town's tax base. 'As long as I am mayor, I will continue to advocate so that your property taxes are not bearing the brunt of financing our town,' Lovatt told the crowd. The Mayor took time to acknowledge the work of Town Staff behind the scenes, including Stouffville's Corporate Communications team, which has expanded public engagement through a new branding strategy, in-house design work, and improved communication between the Town and its residents. Lovatt closed by acknowledging global uncertainty and expressing confidence in Stouffville's resilience. 'It's not lost on me that we are living through some pretty uncertain and ever changing economic times, in great part due to the whims of a whack job in the White House,' he said. 'Whatever challenges lay ahead, we at the Town are prepared to weather the storm with you,' Lovatt told attendees. 'We've done it before, COVID comes to mind, and just as we did then, we will get through it... and come out stronger on the other side.' Wrapping up the event, Bains reflected on the energy in the room and the power of collective momentum. 'We're not just building businesses, we're building something bigger together,' she said. Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce to hold 112th Annual Meeting
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce will hold its 112th Annual Meeting on Thursday, August 21, at the Terre Haute Convention Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The chamber of commerce said the event will bring together West Central Indiana businesses and community members to celebrate the past year's accomplishments and achievements. They said the annual meeting will also be a platform to highlight progress, unveil future initiatives and continue momentum across the business community. Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce honors businesses and individuals 'This year's theme, 'A Collective Vision Forward,' emphasizes the shared commitmentof the Chamber and its members to build a stronger, more vibrant regional economythrough collaboration and innovation,' said the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce. The chamber will also announce its annual awards, which include the Building Business Award, the Leading Tomorrow Award and the Building Community Award. Playing GameCube Classics On Nintendo Switch 2 Is Simply Fantastic
GameCube Classics on Switch 2 Nintendo The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially out as of today, but I was able to secure a pre-order and pick mine up physically last night from GameStop. I then stayed up way too late playing a bunch of different games including Mario Kart World, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition, Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2, and several others, but what actually excited me the most was the small collection of GameCube games added to the Nintendo Switch Online Classics subscription. When the Switch 2 was revealed, Nintendo announced they'd be adding the Nintendo GameCube to the Nintendo Classics lineup with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-ZERO GX kicking off the library. They also confirmed Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Super Mario Strikers, Chibi-Robo! Plug Into Adventure, Luigi's Mansion, and Pokémon Colosseum are all coming up as well. The ability to play these sorts of games with built-in save states, amazing upscaled visuals, online multiplayer, and butter smooth framerate on a brand-new hybrid console from Nintendo is nothing short of spectacular. It's hard for me to overstate just how monumental this feels as someone born in 1990 who grew up playing these three games, and many others, very specifically as an early teen. Since the Nintendo GameCube was a huge part of my gaming background, I'm extremely excited about the potential here. I even made a list of 13 GameCube games I think would be excellent additions to this library. Fingers crossed Nintendo sees this, right? Naturally, I tried all three of the GameCube games on offer so far and came away extremely impressed. Let's talk about it. Soulcalibur 2 on Switch 2 Bandai Namco This was the big one for me. Soulcalibur 2 is one of the few fighting games I ever really got into growing up and that's almost entirely because of Link's guest appearance. I'm happy to report this game still absolutely rocks. The first thing I did was clear the Arcade mode as Link and thankfully the command list in the pause menu explains all the moves well enough. Eventually, the muscle memory started coming back to me. But what I always loved about Soulcalibur 2 are the other modes beyond basic Arcade, specifically Weapon Master. In the Weapon Master mode, you complete specific challenges that have a bit of light narrative setup around them in order to earn cash to spend on unlocking new weapons for characters. You can then take these new weapons into the Extra Arcade mode and other game modes to alter their fighting style. Link gets access to the Razor Sword from Majora's Mask, a bug catching net, and so much more which all have different reach, attack, and defensive properties. Collecting all the weapons is a blast. Add on excellent online multiplayer now via the Nintendo Classics infrastructure and you have one of my favorite games ported to a new platform with better visuals and new features. Can't go wrong there! F-ZERO GX on Switch 2 Nintendo I've never been the biggest F-Zero fan, but I do appreciate what it tries to accomplish. Personally, I usually prefer combat racing like WipEout and Mario Kart, or even the criminally underrated Blur, but F-Zero is still fun for the pure sense of blistering speed and killer music. The GameCube version of F-Zero here is one of the fastest and most difficult racing games I've ever tried to play and that still holds true over two decades later. Multiplayer works great, even though it's of course split screen even online here, and it's a blast to just try out for a while with a friend. There are tons of characters / ships to unlock so there's plenty of content. F-Zero GX on Switch 2 is a game that basically feels like it just got remastered with little fanfare. Framerate is smooth, resolution is crisp, and everything just looks, sounds, and plays phenomenally. You definitely need to check this one out. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on Switch 2 Nintendo Now this is probably the one people are most excited about and that's for good reason. Since this is the GameCube original version, however, that means you won't get the quality of life improvements found in the Wii U HD remake or widescreen support, but the tradeoff there is you retain the original art style without the added bloom effects injected into the HD version. It's cleaner and less busy looking with a really distinct aesthetic. Zero complaints here. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker probably has my favorite video game soundtrack of all-time and it's one of the best games in the entire Zelda franchise. I really hope more people get a chance to play it this way and the inclusion of things like save states will make it even better of course. Say what you want about the drawbacks of games locked behind subscription services—I largely agree with the criticisms and would prefer to just buy them individually—but I love that Nintendo is preserving their legacy here. It's no secret that the Switch 2 doesn't have a huge selection of new games to pick from at launch. But what it does of are three of the best games from the early 2000s, upgraded, and easily accessible for a small subscription and that's amazing to me.
