PH Thanks UAE for Pardoning 68 Filipino Detainees During Eid
In a statement released Tuesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the UAE's clemency reflects the strong bilateral ties between the two countries.
'This generous act symbolizes the enduring relationship between the Philippines and the UAE and offers renewed hope to the families of those pardoned,' the DFA stated.
The announcement followed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address (SONA), where he highlighted the support of Middle Eastern nations in granting clemency to Filipinos abroad.
He noted that over the past three years, more than 600 Filipinos convicted in foreign countries — especially in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and others — were granted pardon, largely due to sustained diplomatic efforts.
Marcos also conveyed his personal thanks to leaders of the Sultanate of Oman, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, acknowledging their compassionate interventions on behalf of overseas Filipino workers.
The DFA added that preparations are underway for the repatriation of the 68 Filipinos back to the Philippines.

On Thursday, Marcos is scheduled to visit Bengaluru, India's technology and innovation hub, to meet with industry leaders and explore cooperation in digital infrastructure, startups, and advanced manufacturing. Marcos earlier met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. The two leaders formally launched the Philippines–India Strategic Partnership and witnessed the signing of more than a dozen bilateral agreements in areas including defense, maritime cooperation, space, cybersecurity, digital technology, and tourism. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Palace: Marcos may be aware of lawmakers linked to anomalous infra projects
Malacañang said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. may already have knowledge of the lawmakers allegedly involved in irregular infrastructure projects, as earlier revealed by former Senator Panfilo Lacson. In 2022, Lacson claimed that at least 67 lawmakers were either directly or indirectly acting as contractors for government-funded projects, giving them control over both funding and implementation. This comes after Marcos, in his fourth State of the Nation Address on July 28, flagged corruption and fund misuse in public infrastructure projects and vowed accountability. 'Baka nga po 'yung nasa listahan ni Sen. Lacson, maaaring nasa listahan na rin ng Pangulo,' Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a media briefing with the Philippine press delegation during Marcos' state visit to India. The Palace welcomed Lacson's exposé and urged others with similar information to come forward. ''Yan po ay welcome dahil 'yan po rin ang hinihikayat ng ating Pangulo,' Castro said, emphasizing that such allegations must be backed with evidence and handled without premature judgment. 'Kung ito po ay maibubunyag ni Sen. Lacson at siya ay may mga pruweba po, welcome po yan sa Pangulo at sa administrasyon,' she added.
