Bhubaneswar: Sports minister Suryabanshi Suraj unveiled the logo, trophy, jersey and anthem of the CM Trophy (under-15) football championship at the Kalinga Stadium on Sunday.
The minister said the CM Trophy will help nurture grassroots-level sporting talent in Odisha. Under the leadership of CM Mohan Charan Majhi, the state govt is committed to identifying and promoting young sporting talent, he added.
The CM Trophy is being organised jointly by the sports and youth services department and the Football Association of Odisha. The first phase of the tournament, held from Jan 16 to April 19, witnessed the participation of 271 football clubs and over 5,000 players from across all districts.
The zonal level (second phase) of the championship is scheduled to take place from May 28 to June 5. Teams selected from the districts will be grouped into four zones — Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar and Berhampur — and they will compete for a place in the state-level final round. TNN

N ew Delhi: Delhi govt on Saturday announced that all state buildings and sports stadiums in the capital will soon be redesigned to better serve persons with disabilities (PwDs). These upgrades will include features like ramps, lifts, and Braille signage, among others. The govt stated that this decision was made during a meeting between CM Rekha Gupta and Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat, to review the ongoing Sugamya Delhi Abhiyan. The meeting, which was also attended by Delhi education minister Ashish Sood and senior officials from the office of the chief commissioner for PwDs, focused on enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities in public spaces, educational institutes, and sports stadiums. The statement added thatthe city aims to implement accessibility upgrades across govt and institutional infrastructure. "The govt is committed to transforming Delhi into a model of accessibility and inclusion," Gupta said. She added that the initiative will not only raise awareness about accessibility standards but also promote inclusive practices across public services. TNN

CM launches Rs 308-crore projects for Dhenkanal

1 2 Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday launched development projects worth Rs 308 crore for Dhenkanal district. It included laying of foundation stone for the prestigious Baji Raut Sports Complex. The CM inaugurated 12 projects worth Rs 112 crore and laid foundation stones for 10 projects worth Rs 76 crore. He initiated four major industrial projects exceeding Rs 50,000 crore, including a Rs 30,000 crore solar energy project aimed at making Dhenkanal Odisha's solar energy hub. "These industrial projects will create around 26,400 direct and indirect employment opportunities, marking the success of our 'Utkarsh Odisha - Make in Odisha' conclave," said Majhi during the ceremony. A major highlight of the day was the foundation stone laying of the Rs 120-crore Baji Raut Sports Complex at Banamaliprasad. The complex will feature a football field, synthetic athletic track, hockey training center, indoor stadium, swimming pool, and a 100-bed sports hostel. Speaking about employment generation, the CM said his govt has already filled 27,000 vacant govt positions in the first year and plans to fill 40,000 more positions this year. He also highlighted the recent cabinet decision to increase the maximum age limit for govt job applications to 42 years. Industry minister Sampad Chandra Swain, who was present at the event, praised the CM's efforts in industrial development, while food supplies minister Krishna Chandra Patra emphasised the govt's commitment to fulfill its promises to the people. The event was attended by Dhenkanal MP Rudra Narayan Pany, local MLAs, and senior district officials.
