Trump Extends TikTok Sale Deadline by 90 Days

Israa Farhan
Former US President Donald Trump has
extended
the deadline for the Chinese tech giant ByteDance to sell its US TikTok operations by an additional 90 days, pushing it beyond the original June 19 cutoff.
The White House confirmed the move, despite existing legislation mandating a sale or shutdown of the app if no significant progress is made.
This marks the third extension granted since Congress passed the initial ban, which was due to take effect in January.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump will sign a new executive order this week to ensure TikTok remains operational in the United States during this transition period.

EU Parliament Approves €4 Billion Financial Aid Package for Egypt

Yara Sameh On Wednesday, Parliament approved a provisional agreement reached with Council on a macro-financial assistance (MFA) package for Egypt worth €4 billion. A short-term loan of up to €1 billion was already disbursed at the end of 2024. An additional loan of up to €4 billion will now be disbursed. Egypt will have 35 years to repay the loans. The funds' release is subject to Egypt's satisfactory implementation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme and other policy measures to be agreed in a memorandum between the EU and the Egyptian authorities. In a yearly report to Parliament and Council, the Commission will examine the progress made, assess Egypt's economic prospects and evaluate the loans' impact on the economic and fiscal situation. The Commission will also assess steps taken to shore up democratic mechanisms and the rule of law and to protect human rights in the country. The agreement with Council was approved by 386 votes in favour, 132 against, and with 49 abstentions. Parliament's rapporteur Céline Imart (EPP, FR), said: 'Parliament's backing for this EU loan reflects its high regard for Egypt as a partner country. By helping Egypt, we are also looking after EU interests in an unstable region.' With its macro-financial assistance initiatives, the EU supports partner countries that are struggling with financial, economic and societal challenges, and helps them with structural political and economic reforms. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Iran has a legitimate right to self-defence under Israeli attack: Erdogan - Region

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday Iran had the "legitimate" right to defend itself in the face of Israel's ongoing bombing campaign, now in its sixth day. "It is a very natural, legitimate and legal right for Iran to defend itself against Israel's thuggery and state terrorism," the Turkish leader said, a day after referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "the biggest threat to the security of the region". The long-range blitz began early Friday, when Israel launched a massive bombing campaign that prompted Iran to hit back with missiles and drones, including hypersonic missiles. "These attacks were organised while the Iranian nuclear negotiations were taking place," Erdogan said. "Israel, which possesses nuclear weapons and does not recognise any international rules.. did not wait for the negotiations to end, but carried out a terrorist act without waiting for the result," he added. Iran says at least 224 people have been killed in the Israeli attacks, which have targeted nuclear and military facilities, while Iranian fire on Israel has claimed at least 24 lives and and wounded hundreds more, Netanyahu's office said. "We are closely following Israel's terrorist attacks on Iran. All our institutions are on high alert regarding the possible effects of these attacks on Turkey," Erdogan said. "We are making preparations for every kind of scenario," he said. "Nobody should dare to test us." On Monday, Erdogan said he had ordered the defence industry to increase production of medium and long-range missiles to "increase its level of deterrence" in light of the air war between Israel and Iran. Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli - file CAIRO - 18 June 2025: Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, chaired the weekly cabinet meeting Wednesday to discuss a number of issues and matters. At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister spoke about the escalating situation and tensions witnessed in the region in recent days, Egypt's position of utter rejection of the expansion of the conflict in the region, and the necessity of halting Israeli military operations on various regional fronts. PM Madbouly emphasized that the continuation of this escalation will have serious consequences for all peoples of the region, without exception, and indeed the entire world. In light of this, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly pointed out that His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during his meetings and phone calls with a number of world leaders, emphasized the importance of the international community playing a more effective role in urging regional parties to assume their responsibilities. "He [President Sisi] emphasized that peaceful solutions remain the only means to ensure security and stability in the region," said Mabdouly. Regarding the repercussions of this conflict on domestic affairs, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly reassured citizens of the availability of various commodities in the markets, and that there is a strategic reserve sufficient for several months. He also noted that the government has taken immediate action to discuss the repercussions of the current crisis at various levels, particularly with regard to fuel supplies and increasing the country's stockpile of all essential strategic commodities. In this context, he highlighted the decision he issued to form a "Crisis Committee," headed by him, to monitor the repercussions of the Iranian-Israeli military operations, thus contributing to preparedness for any developments in various sectors. The Prime Minister further confirmed that he will meet regularly with the committee members, noting that its first meeting will be held Wednesday following the Cabinet meeting. He also noted that he is currently intensifying his meetings with various advisory committees to discuss the repercussions of recent events and their impact on various state sectors. In this context, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly also urged citizens to be extremely careful about rationalizing electricity consumption. This is in light of these exceptional circumstances, while emphasizing the government's commitment to supplying power plants with the fuel necessary to operate them efficiently. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly emphasized that there is no need to worry about the availability of any essential commodity; we have strategic reserves sufficient to meet domestic consumption needs. The government is also monitoring all developments at various levels, and several scenarios are being developed to address these developments. He expressed his hope for the return of stability to the region as soon as possible.
