Looking for a little convertible sportscar for summer? Yeah, there are the usual options – Mazda MX-5, Toyota MR2 or perhaps an MG TF if you're really on a budget. There's also this.
This is a 1957 Dual-Ghia Convertible that was purchased new by Frank Sinatra's production company. Sinatra then gifted the car to his ex-wife, the American actress Ava Gardner. And yes, it'll cost a little more than a Miata. In fact, it's up for sale through Daniel Schmitt & Co in St. Louis for $349,900. Yikes.

Quite the looker, though, isn't it? The Dual-Ghia was the brainchild of Eugene Casaroll – the owner of the Dual Motors Corporation which specialised in building military vehicles and industrial generators. Naturally, Casaroll decided that his company's next step should be to make a luxurious convertible land yacht, so he bought the rights to a Dodge Firearrow concept car and commissioned Carrozzeria Ghia to turn it into a proper production car.
The Dual-Ghia quickly became supremely popular with those in Hollywood, but despite aiming for a production run of 150 cars, only 117 were built before the plug was pulled. It probably didn't help that it cost a bomb to produce, with the Dodge frame and 5.9-litre HEMI V8 being built in the US, before the whole thing was shipped over to Italy for Ghia to fit that wonderful tail finned body and the stunning interior. The cars were then sent back to the US for final assembly.
Daniel Schmitt & Co reckons that just 34 Dual-Ghia Convertibles still exist, with this particular car possibly being one of the very best after a recent restoration. It was also previously featured in the 1992 TV series Sinatra, and it was once on display in the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

More than 500 jobs at risk in Italy as Stellantis changes oil supplier, union says
ROME, June 4 (Reuters) - More than 500 jobs are at risk in Italy after automaker Stellantis ( opens new tab changed oil supplier from a local brand owned by Malaysia's Petronas to France's Total ( opens new tab, a trade union said on Wednesday. Stellantis was not immediately available for comment. Petronas owns the Selenia brand of motor oils, an Italian supplier which was previously part of the Fiat group and marketed products including under the "Olio Fiat" name. Stellantis was created in 2021 from the merger of Fiat-Chrysler with France's PSA, maker of Peugeot and Citroen cars. The group also includes Opel and Jeep. Selenia lost its "historic" supply contract with Stellantis after 112 years of production, the Uilm union said in a statement. The change resulted from the outcome of a competitive tender. Petronas announced it in a meeting with employees, Uilm added, saying this compromised job security for 450 workers in Fiat's hometown of Turin and 70 in Naples, in the south. The union pledged to use "all available tools" to protect the Petronas workers and other auto suppliers who are "under heavy stress" due to Stellantis' decisions. Stellantis is Italy's sole major automaker, and last year its production in the country fell to around 475,000 vehicles, the lowest level since 1956, the FIM-CISL union said in January.

Ford recalls nearly half a million 2016-17 Explorers due to door trim that can detach while driving
Ford is recalling nearly half a million older Explorer models because part of the door trim can detach while driving and cause a dangerous road hazard, U.S. auto safety regulators said Wednesday. A notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall covers 492,145 Ford Explorers, model years 2016-2017. The vehicles were produced between June 11, 2015 and April 19, 2017. Ford Motor Co. first recognized the problem as far back as 2019, but did not consider it an 'unreasonable risk to safety," the NHTSA report said. In March of this year, the NHTSA shared with Ford dozens of vehicle owner reports of the problem, leading Ford to further investigate it, eventually leading to the recall. Ford concluded that lack of proper adhesion was causing the trim to loosen, adding that it is unaware of accidents or injuries related to the defect. The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker expects to start sending notification letters to owners on June 9. When a remedy to fix the faulty part has been determined, owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicles into a Ford or Lincoln dealership to have the trim fixed at no cost. The NHTSA recall number is 25V347. The manufacturer's recall number is 25S53.
