₹74.5-crore budget set for road safety in Haryana
Chief secretary Anurag Rastogi, who chaired a meeting of the committee, said that allocation aimed to reduce road accident fatalities and enhance emergency response systems across the state.
An official spokesperson said that for the first time in Haryana, PWD (B&R) has decided to launch a School Zone Road Safety Treatment project in the state and for this, the committee allocated ₹25 crore to the PWD (B&R). Besides, ₹17.50 crore has been allocated to the health department for the purchase of around 50 basic life support ambulances. A total of ₹19 crore has been allocated to the police department to establish CCTV-based city surveillance systems in 19 districts. Additionally, ₹10 crore has been sanctioned for District Road Safety Committees (DRSCs) to carry out safety activities.
The spokesperson said that such efforts have led to consistent decline in road accidents and fatalities across the state. In 2022, Haryana recorded 11,105 accidents and 5,596 deaths. In 2023, the figures stood at 10,438 accidents and 5,195 deaths, followed by 9,759 accidents and 4,828 deaths in 2024. In 2025, up to May 25, the numbers have further decreased to 6,770 accidents and 1,942 deaths.

Various schemes to financially support divyang's healthcare: Govt
New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) The Government today told Parliament that a slew of schemes aimed at improving healthcare access and financial support for persons with disabilities (PwD) has been launched for the welfare of the sector in the past few years. Under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme provides affordable health coverage specifically for PwD wherein beneficiaries can avail up to Rs. 1 lakh in medical insurance benefits without the requirement of pre-insurance medical tests, ensuring easy access to healthcare services. This was stated by Union Minister of State for Health, Prataprao Jadhav in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. He further said the central flagship scheme, PM-JAY, offers cashless treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary healthcare. Approximately 12 crore families, including many PwDs identified through the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC-2011), are set to benefit. The scheme particularly emphasises support for rural and vulnerable populations, with specific inclusion criteria such as 'Disabled member and no able-bodied adult member.' The National Policy for Rare Diseases (NPRD), 2021, provides vital financial assistance of up to Rs. 50 lakhs for the treatment of 63 rare diseases. This support is delivered through 14 designated Centres of Excellence, significantly reducing out-of-pocket expenses for affected families and improving access to specialised care, said the Minister. Further, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) in its order has directed the insurers to make available products/add-ons/riders to provide wider choice to the policyholders/prospects catering to all ages, all types of existing medical conditions, pre-existing diseases, chronic conditions etc, added Jadhav. Fire at Nerul hospital after safety audit cert expiration
1 2 Navi Mumbai: A major fire broke out at Nerul's Shushrusha Hospital in Sector 6 on Monday around noon. All 21 patients, including senior citizens, were immediately evacuated. Hospital's owner Dr Sanjay Tarlekar, said, "The fire broke out due to a short circuit in the air-conditioning unit in the basement, where there is a computer setup meant for printing X-ray films of patients. While the X-ray technician was taking a printout, sudden sparks in the AC unit caused the electrical wiring to catch fire." Tarlekar said the technician raised an alarm and attempted to douse the fire using an extinguisher, but the false ceiling became fodder for the fire to spread. The smoke spread to the upper three floors through the fire duct. Purushottam Jadhav, Vashi fire officer, said, "Vashi fire station received the emergency fire call the hospital at 11.58 am. Six firefighters immediately reached the spot with a fire tender and a water browser. The basement got completely charred in the fire breakout." "The fire was confined to the basement as it was prevented from spreading to the upper floors by our firefighting team. It took around three hours to completely extinguish the fire in the basement, including the cooling operation," said Jadhav. Jadhav informed that the hospital was issued the mandatory B-Form certificate, also called the Fire Safety Audit Certificate, by NMMC fire department for six months up to Dec 2024 after receiving an application in July 2024. Thereafter, the hospital did not apply for renewal, and the inspection of the hospital building by the NMMC fire department was not conducted to confirm that the hospital's fire safety measures and equipment were in compliance with regulations. As per Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, the B-Form Certificate is mandatorily required for hospitals as part of their overall licensing and operational requirements and is essential for ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff. A report will be sent to the fire department authorities regarding the alleged lapse by the concerned hospital management.
