Russell Martin believes win over Panathinaikos will help Rangers' players grow
Filip Djuricic eventually opened the scoring for the dominant Greek outfit with a header in the 53rd minute but, moments after coming on as substitute, Djeidi Gassama, who scored after coming off the bench to make his debut last week, levelled at 1-1 with a stunning drive.
Rangers set up a third qualifying tie against Czech side Viktoria Plzen, who knocked out Swiss outfit Servette.
Boss Martin told Rangers' official YouTube channel: 'I'm so proud of the team, the group and the fans were incredible.
'It was a big night for us, so early on in the process of trying to be the team we want to be.
'I don't think it can be underestimated how difficult this tie and this night was and, especially after the first half, it was so difficult.
'But I think the players have come through a really tough time and I'm really proud of them.
'And then we have a setback by conceding the goal and then we took the sting out of the game by scoring and responding really quickly, that's not easy.
'The fans were amazing and they stuck with us throughout and it's been a really good night and we will get better.
'It's so early on. There's loads of growing to do and nights like this will definitely help the players grow.'
Martin was pleased with the resolve he saw from his side.
He added: 'They were really together tonight in the second half, especially, and I'm really proud of them for that because we asked for that at half-time and they dug in and they fought and there were some brilliant moments with the boys.
'It didn't come to enough but there were some big performances and I'm really pleased.
'At this football club, you have to have to be resilient and you have to you show a level of effort and fight and application and desire or you just won't last very long.
'And they did all of that. So I'm so proud, but it has to be all the time.
'And we have to be relentless with that and there wasn't enough of it in the first half, so it's my job to be really proud of the players but to make sure we get better and we will because, as I said, they'll grow so much from tonight.'

Callum Devine on course for Ulster Rally and Irish Tarmac Championship double
Devine safely navigated the Friday leg of the Northern Ireland Motor Club event alongside Noel O'Sullivan, the Claudy man's Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 holding a slim 12.9 second lead over the identical Czech-built supermini belonging to Declan Boyle. It was a somewhat bitty run over the opening loop of three special stages for Devine, who complained of boiling his brakes on the first test before clipping the right rear tyre on the next one – a mishap that would normally be punished by way of an immediate puncture – yet he returned back to service in Newry city holding a near four-second lead over Boyle. With darkness falling and lamp pods required for the second loop of closed-road stages, Devine said getting through these and making it back to the safety of parc fermé in one piece was the immediate aim. 'I am happy to get through with no drama – we got into a bit of a rhythm as the miles went by, so I am happy,' he said, 'and when everything clicked on the night stages it delivered a special sensation.' Boyle's pace dropped in the dark, with a few moments also making the job of hanging on to Devine's coat-tails – and keeping event returnee Osian Pryce at arm's length – harder. And with Pryce confident the character of Saturday's roads could play into his hands, the 16 second buffer Boyle provisionally enjoys could ebb away. Robbie Fraser opens up on decision to leave Rangers after signing for Dunfermline Athletic
Robbie Fraser has vowed to show 'who I am and what I can be' after Dunfermline paid an undisclosed fee to sign the Rangers defender. The 22-year-old has penned a three-year deal with the Pars after deciding it was time to leave his 'home' of 16 years in search of first-team football. A loan spell at Livingston last season helped whet the appetite of the left wing-back for more first-team football. And he is determined to play his part in shooting Dunfermline back to the Premiership after helping Livi to promotion via their play-off triumph over Ross County last season. 'I was at Rangers for 16 years, so a long time,' said Fraser. 'But it's a fresh start, a needed start and one I'm certainly looking forward to. 'It's not easy [to leave Rangers]. People might say it can be easy if you're finding it a bit difficult to get game-time and that. 'But, you know, being there that long, it was my home for 16 years; it's a long, long time. 'But I'm at a stage in my career where I've come out of that younger phase and I want to come out and get games. 'I'd never, ever disrespect Rangers whatsoever. They did a lot for me, they brought me up. 'They made me a man, to be honest, with the education I got with them and the opportunities I did get with them. 'So, I've got a lot to be thankful for, but all you want to do is play football. 'I want to show that I'm more than capable of holding my own. I want to do my absolute best for this football club, I want to get us back to the top league, where they should be.' Asked about his stint with Livi in the second half of last term, he added: 'You know, if I maybe didn't have that, I'd have had a slightly different approach. 'But getting that little taster for six months, it's made me really enthusiastic to come out and show who I am and what I can be. 'I'm at a great place now, a great club, with great people in it.' Fraser made six first-team appearances for Rangers, the last of which was a late substitute's role in a memorable 3-0 victory over Celtic in January's New Year Old Firm clash at Ibrox. However, his full focus is now on making a success of his move east to play under ex-Celtic player and manager Neil Lennon. 'I know how big the club is, I know the manager's pedigree, I know some of the boys at the club as well,' said Fraser, who was at Rangers with Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Connor Young and Mason Munn. 'I know about playing in the stadium, I know a lot of things about the club. 'So, obviously, all of that together, the way the manager spoke to me, how much he wanted me, that all comes into consideration. 'It's just about getting my head down and trying to show why I was wanted so much.'
