Elysian Fields ISD Superintendent Monica Simmons resigns
WASKON, Texas (KETK) — Elysian Fields ISD Superintendent Monica Simmons announced her resignation from the position last week after serving the district since 2002.

Simmons spent her time at Elysian Fields ISD as both an administrator and teacher, where she started out as a student teacher before becoming a first grade teacher. Simmons has worn many hats at EFISD including curriculum director, federal programs director, testing coordinator, teacher, assistant principal and principal.
In 2022, Simmons took over the superintendent position after Maynard Chapman's retirement and she accomplished many feats. Her role in developing EFISD's Strategic Plan laid down a new vision for the district's future by helping pass the 2024 bond that secured resources for facility and transportation upgrades.
'I am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished together,' Simmons said. 'The progress we've made is a direct reflection of the unwavering dedication of our students, staff, families, and community. It has been an honor to work in partnership with each of you in support of a shared vision for excellence.'

According to EFISD, the bond allowed the construction of a new elementary school that is currently being built and is expected to open in Fall 2026. Simmons will continue as the superintendent until the end of July when the district is expected to find a new person for the job.

The amendment was discussed in a special call board meeting. Although the adjustment is only meant for some positions, raises for other district members are still being discussed. TRAFFIC ALERT: Road closures in Henderson County due to flooding
HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — As Henderson County battles flash flooding, some roads have been shut down for the safety of East Texans. According to Henderson County, flash flooding is possible with heavy rains, so the county encourages residents to turn around if they encounter a flooded road. 'Never walk, swim, or drive through still or moving floodwaters,' the county said. 'The water may be hiding dangers such as debris, tree branches, power lines or damage to the road. As little as six inches of fast-moving water can cause motorists to lose control of their vehicle, even a pickup truck or SUV.' A flash flood warning has been issued till June 8 at 9:25 p.m. in Henderson County. KETK has compiled the following list of road closures in Henderson County: County Road 1500 East and West is closed The bridge on County Road 1507 is flooded and not passable County Road 1113 is flooded at the creek and is not passable County Road 2448 is under water Pritchett Road in Seven Points is closed from Jess Hinton to County Road 2105 County Road 2139 south of 85 is closed County Road 2428 east is closed The bridge on County Road 3918 was washed over and is not passable The bridge on FM 316 by Purtis Creek is flooded County Road 3822 County Road 3715 has since reopened. Emergency Management said they received reports of stranded vehicles due to high water this morning, but all has cleared out as of now and no injuries were reported. Despite his once-prominent Hollywood profile, from 2014, Simmons was seen outside of his home on just a handful of occasions, although he maintained a close connection with his fans via regular Facebook updates in which he would offer glimpses into his life—while also sharing inspirational messages with his followers. The reason behind his disappearance became the source of intense media scrutiny, with a TMZ documentary entitled 'What Really Happened to Richard Simmons' claiming that his decision to step away from public life was the result of a longtime ailment that he had suffered with since birth. 'Something that happened to him at birth is directly connected to his disappearance — a birth defect that significantly affected one of his legs,' TMZ editor Fabian Garcia claimed in the documentary, according to the New York Post. 'He was born without a full set of bones in his foot and it causes physical and emotional problems.' In 2024, before his death, Simmons addressed the speculation about his disappearance in a social media post, urging his fans to pay no attention to the rumors. 'Don't believe everything you read. I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful,' he wrote. Still, Simmons' family faced continued scrutiny in the wake of his death, particularly after it was revealed that they had become embroiled in a bitter legal battle with the fitness guru's longtime housekeeper, Teresa Reveles. Two months after her boss's death, Reveles filed a petition with a Los Angeles court in which she claimed that she had been pressured into giving up her role as a co-trustee of his estate, accusing Simmons' brother, Lenny, and his wife, Cathy, of carrying out a 'nefarious scheme' to remove her from all future decisions about his finances. Lenny also accused Reveles of 'refusing to vacate' his brother's home—stating in court papers that she remained in the dwelling for 76 after his death and alleging that, when she did finally leave the property, she took $1 million worth of jewelry and 'other valuable pieces of fine art' with her. 'Although Teresa has her own home, she had a room in Richard's house that she refused to vacate after his death. When she finally did leave, 76 days later, she took almost $1 million of Richard's jewelry and other valuable pieces of fine art, which she has refused to return,' the court papers read, according to NewsNation. 'And, as discussed below, she participated in the effort to misappropriate the Trust's intellectual property. 'Teresa's counsel has not informed the Trustee whether Teresa intends to keep this property or return it. If she decides to try to keep it, the Trustee will have no choice but to file a petition to recover it, which is a clear reason she should not be Co-Trustee. 'The Trustee and his counsel need to appraise any property to be sold and may need to sell it to pay the taxes. Teresa should not be permitted to interfere with this process absent serious, legitimate concerns about the administration of the estate that do not exist here.' Now, Simmons' family appears ready to move on from the legal drama that ensued after his death—and are parting ways with the expansive dwelling, which he called home for several decades. According to property records, Simmons purchased the home in the 1980s and it is understood to have served as his main residence up until the time of his death. However, the dwelling, which was built in 1937, was transferred to a trust of which Lenny is the trustee, after the exercise guru's passed away The online listing calls attention to the property's illustrious history, describing it as the 'Richard Simmons Estate,' however the images reveal that almost every trace of its former owner has been cleared out—with just a few unique murals left in memory of its famous prior resident. Despite its impressive heritage, the listing also concedes that the property may well be viewed by prospective buyers as a tear down, stating that it presents 'a one-of-a-kind opportunity to own a landmark home or construct a new masterpiece.'
