New Bond film to hit cinemas by end of 2027

Gulf Today23-03-2025

Production on the next James Bond film is under way after 'being fast-tracked' for release following Amazon's $1bn acquisition.
Last month, it was revealed that Amazon MGM had taken full creative control of the Bond franchise after striking a deal with long-time producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
While the pair will remain co-owners of the franchise, the transaction leaves creative control of all future productions in the hands of Amazon – a decision that has led to consternation among fans.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson
It's now been reported that the next film – Bond 26 – will have a budget of £250m, which is around the same amount Daniel Craig's final 007 outing No Time to Die cost.
According to The Sun, the film is expected to be in cinemas by the end of 2027, with a source stating: 'The Bond bosses had already proposed broad plots and reboot ideas.
'The writers' rooms are being assembled in the hope of recouping their investment ASAP.'
Bond films are typically released in October and November.
The hunt for a new Bond to replace Craig has heated up in recent weeks, with rumours including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson and James Norton. In terms of producers, Puck reports that David Heyman (Harry Potter) and Amy Pascal (Tom Holland's Spider-Man films) are in talks to develop the outing.
Harris Dickinson
In March 2024, it was reported that Taylor-Johnson has secured the role of Bond – but the actor distanced himself from the claims, stating: 'I don't feel like I need to have a future drawn out for me. I feel like, whatever's drawn out for me, I can f***ing do better.'
Spin-offs
Amazon's acquisition of the Bond franchise is expected to lead to a series of spin-offs, but the source states the streaming giant 'knows fans want and expect a movie' and 'wants filming to be done by the end of next year'.
When the film arrives, it will match the record for the longest time the world has had to wait for a new Bond film since Sean Connery first played the British spy in 1962's Dr No. The previous record was GoldenEye, which arrived in 1995 – six years after Timothy Dalton appeared in Licence to Kill.
Before Amazon's takeover, news on the franchise had gone silent in recent years, with no formal plans for the next movie or any recruitment of the next Bond actor.
Wilson said in a statement: 'With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects. Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.'
James Norton
Broccoli added: 'My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli.
'I have had the honour of working closely with four of the tremendously taleted actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry. With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.'

By integrating the Esports World Cup with Amazon's Twitch, Prime Video, Wondery and Alexa, the collaboration will create new ways for fans to watch, interact with, and celebrate competitive gaming on a global stage. The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) has entered a landmark three-year partnership with Amazon Ads to elevate the global reach and fan experience of the Esports World Cup (EWC), the world's premier esports and gaming event set to return to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 7 to August 24, 2025. This extended collaboration builds on their successful 2024 partnership and will integrate Amazon's suite of advertising and entertainment platforms—including Twitch, Prime Video, Alexa and Wondery—to deliver immersive and interactive experiences for fans worldwide. The partnership aims to redefine how fans engage with esports, combining high-stakes competition with compelling digital storytelling and entertainment. The Esports World Cup Hub, launched on and during the previous edition, will now be expanded through customised content and activations. Fans will be able to stream matches live on Twitch, watch an original EWC docuseries on Prime Video, receive real-time updates through Alexa, and enjoy narrative-driven experiences via the Wondery podcast network. EWCF and Amazon Ads plan to use this collaboration to expand the tournament's footprint across key global markets including the United States, Europe, Brazil, Mexico, the MENA region, Turkey, India and Canada. By combining Amazon's global advertising infrastructure with EWCF's dynamic tournament ecosystem, the initiative will allow brands to engage directly with next-generation esports audiences through programmatic media, exclusive content, and integrated retail experiences. Mike McCabe, Chief Operating Officer, at the Esports World Cup Foundation, said: 'Esports is redefining how a new generation consumes entertainment – always on, always accessible, and deeply social. With Amazon, we are bringing esports into everyday digital lives for millions of people around the world — whether you're catching highlights on Prime, or a livestream on Twitch, or asking Alexa for updates – creating an immersive, multimedia experience that's shaping its place in global culture.' Rayan Karaky, Managing Director, EMEA & Southeast Asia at Amazon Ads, added: 'We are excited to continue our collaboration with EWCF to shape how Esports is experienced globally. Our collaboration will power immersive fan experiences across multiple touchpoints and create exceptional value for brands. Through our global services – Twitch, Prime Video, Alexa and Wondery – we will take world-class esports content from Saudi Arabia to the world. This initiative supports the Kingdom's position as a world-leading esports hub, and the Vision 2030 ambition to be a leader in digital entertainment and technology.' The 2025 Esports World Cup will be the largest of its kind, featuring 2,000 elite players and 200 Clubs from over 100 countries, competing in 25 tournaments across 24 games for a record-setting prize pool exceeding $70m. The event will run alongside the Esports World Cup Festival in Riyadh, offering fans a diverse lineup of experiences including live music, cosplay, anime cafes, creator studios, retro arcades, and more—celebrating gaming not just as a competition, but as a cultural phenomenon.

‘Largest Princess Diana auction' features frocks, hats, shoes and bags

From colourful frocks and hats to handbags and shoes, items belonging to the late Princess Diana go under the hammer this month in what Julien's Auctions says is the largest collection of her fashion to go to auction. The live and online "Princess Diana's Style & A Royal Collection" sale will take place on June 26 at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, offering an array of fashion items Diana wore. "This is the largest Princess Diana auction because we have over 100 items from her amazing life and in mind Diana over 70 of her in 1997 to raise money for her charity," Martin Nolan, executive director and co-founder of Julien's Auctions, told Reuters on Monday. He was speaking at the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge in Ireland during a pre-sale exhibition. Among the highlights is a 1988 silk floral dress by Bellville Sassoon, dubbed the "caring dress" because Diana wore it several times on hospital visits, with a price estimate of $200,000-$300,000. Chanel and Rayner shoes and a handbag that belonged to Princess Diana is displayed at a public exhibition in The Museum of Style Icons, in Newbridge, Ireland. A cream silk embroidered evening gown Catherine Walker designed for Diana's 1986 Gulf tour has a similar price tag, while a Bruce Oldfield two-piece yellow floral ensemble she wore for Royal Ascot in 1987 is estimated at $100,000-$200,000. Other sale items include a Dior handbag gifted to her by former French first lady Bernadette Chirac in 1995, a sketch of Diana's 1981 wedding dress with tulle fabric cut-offs from when she married then Prince Charles in 1981 and a peach hat she wore for her honeymoon send-off. Martin Nolan, co-founder of Julien's Auctions, poses with Princess Diana's Christian Dior 'Lady Dior' handbag. The auction also includes pieces belonging to other British royals including the late Queen Elizabeth II and the queen mother. Nolan said Julien's Auctions had previously sold a dress belonging to Diana for $1.14 million. The final calico toile for Princess Diana's Royal wedding gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel is displayed. Photos: Reuters "People do consider these items as an asset class now, because if people own these items today, chances are in years to come they will sell them for more than what they pay for (at) auction," he said. Part of the proceeds from the sale of Diana's items will go to charity Muscular Dystrophy UK. Reuters
