Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens' stances on Chelsea transfer moves revealed

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens both wish to join Chelsea this summer, according to reports. The west London club are keen to sign a new goalkeeper after a series of unconvincing performances from Robert Sanchez in the 2024-25 season. Chelsea are already in talks over a deal for Maignan but it is thought that they are reluctant to meet AC Milan's current €30m (£25m) asking price for the France international. As negotiations continue, it has now been revealed by French outlet L'Equipe that the 29-year-old wants to leave AC Milan in order to join Chelsea. The same is true for Dortmund winger Gittens – German outlet BILD have reported – in what has become a double transfer boost for the Blues. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. It is believed that €60m (£50.5m) would be enough for Chelsea to wrap up the deal for the 20-year-old Englishman 'very quickly'. Chelsea are keen to have Gittens in their squad for the Club World Cup after sending Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United following his loan. 'There's definitely a market for [Gittens],' Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl told Sport1's Doppelpass show last month. 'He's a very exciting player. We'll be having discussions soon. If offers come in, we'll have to deal with them.' Chelsea opened talks with Dortmund over a move for Gittens this week, after he also attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool. Gittens has played 106 games for Dortmund to date, registering 17 goals and 14 assists for the German club. Born in Reading, the England U21 international has spent his entire senior career with the Bundesliga side to date, having joined their youth team from Manchester City five years ago. Frank Leboeuf wants Chelsea to make an 'exception' and break from their transfer policy by signing experienced goalkeeper Maignan this summer. ''Magic Mike' is his nickname because he's so exceptional,' ex-Chelsea defender Leboeuf told ESPN FC when asked about his French compatriot. 'I think he will fit perfectly to Chelsea, if Chelsea have decided to give an exception in their trading business system. 'If they decide to go for Mike, that is a very good decision because the guy is a real good goalkeeper… I think he will be very useful to Chelsea.' It's already been a busy summer transfer window for Chelsea, who announced on Wednesday that they've signed Liam Delap from Ipswich. More Trending Delap, who has joined for £30m, is set to fight Nicolas Jackson to become the Blues' No.1 striker under head coach Enzo Marsesca. Estevao Willian, Dario Essugo and Kendry Paez are all arriving at Chelsea this summer too. It is thought that Chelsea have immediate first-team plans for Estevao, who has been compared to likes of Neymar and Lamine Yamal. Alexis Mac Allister calls out Jack Grealish antics - 'You feel like kicking him'

Jack Grealish has picked up a reputation as a player who goes to ground easily, with Roy Keane once comparing him to Olympic diver Tom Daley, and Alexis Mac Allister has claimed players "feel like kicking him" Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister has named Manchester City 's Jack Grealish as the biggest provocateur in the Premier League, admitting players "feel like kicking him". Grealish has been accused of going to ground too easily during more than two decades in the top flight. The England winger has entertained fans with his flamboyant style of play and ability to run at defenders down the flank. But Mac Allister has been irked by Grealish on the pitch after being asked which player in the Premier League winds him up the most. ‌ He also suggested the 29-year-old often made the most of being fouled, having first faced off against him when he was a Brighton player and Grealish turned out for Villa. ‌ "Grealish - you feel like kicking him," the Argentine said. "But even when you do, he gets right back up. And somehow, that makes you feel like you're winning!" "Yeah, you have to give a penalty, it's just Jack being very smart," Keane told Sky Sports. "We're saying Jack is more like Tom Daley, but I think it is a penalty, and it's clever from Jack. He gets his body across and like Gary [Neville] said in commentary, he knows exactly what he's doing, gave the referee almost no option but to give the penalty." Mac Allister's comments come at a difficult time for Grealish, who was left out of Manchester City's Club World Cup squad headed to the United States this summer. Grealish has fallen down the pecking order under boss Pep Guardiola at the Etihad in the last two seasons since playing a pivotal role in City's historic treble triumph in 2023. ‌ The £100m signing started just 16 games in all competitions last season and only seven times in the Premier League as he scored three goals across the board. He is now being tipped for an exit from City after his brutal axe as he looks to regain his place in the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. However, a move could be hard to pull off for most clubs due to Grealish's British-record transfer fee plus his eye-watering wages of £300,000-a-week, which means a loan deal might be his best option of getting game time. Rangers appoint new boss Russell Martin on three-year contract

The 39-year-old former MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton boss has signed a three-year contract. He will be joined at Ibrox by assistant head coach Matt Gill and performance coach Rhys Owen. ✍️ Our new Head Coach, Russell Martin. — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) June 5, 2025 Martin guided Southampton to promotion to the Premier League last year but was sacked in December following one win from their first 16 games. Rangers finished last season under the caretaker management of former captain Barry Ferguson, having dismissed Philippe Clement in February. Ex-Scotland defender Martin, who had a short loan spell as a player at Rangers in 2018, is tasked with wrestling power back from the other side of Glasgow after Celtic's stranglehold on Scottish football continued with a 13th William Hill Premiership title in 14 seasons. 'From my time here, I had a taste of how special this club is, the expectation, the passion and the history,' he told the club's website. 'Now, as I return, I'm determined to bring success back, for the supporters, the players, and everyone inside this club. 'There's a lot to be done, but the goal is clear: win matches, win trophies and give Rangers fans a team that they can be proud of.' ✍️ We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Russell Martin as Head Coach of our men's first team on a three-year deal. Full Details ⬇️ — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) June 5, 2025 Martin's arrival is the latest in a series of major changes at the club. An American consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises secured a majority shareholding on Friday, while new sporting director Kevin Thelwell officially began work on Monday. Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart, who led the recruitment process alongside Thelwell, said: 'Our criteria for our next coach were clear: we wanted a coach who will excel in terms of how we want to play, improve our culture, develop our squad, and ultimately win matches. Russell was the standout candidate.'
