Hapur welcomes father-son duo selected as police recruits
In an encouraging development, a father-son duo from Hapur has been selected in the Uttar Pradesh Police constable recruitment and received their appointment letters from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Sunday. The two returned to Hapur on Tuesday to a warm and joyous welcome from family members and local residents.
Yashpal Nagar, a 41-year-old Army veteran, and his 20-year-old son Shekhar have emerged as a symbol of dedication, perseverance, and strong family bonds through their shared achievement. The duo was among 60,000 new recruits who received appointment letters at a grand function held at the Defence Expo grounds in Lucknow.
Yashpal, a resident of Udayrampur Nangla village in Dhaulana tehsil of Hapur district, served in the Indian Army for 18 years after being recruited in 2002. He took voluntary retirement (VRS) in 2019 and later took up a job with the Army Ordnance Corps in Delhi. His elder son Shekhar had been preparing for the police recruitment exam, and inspired by his son's determination, Yashpal too decided to prepare for the exam.
The two enrolled in the same coaching institute in Delhi and spent over two years preparing for the exam. They studied side by side in a library, yet kept their relationship private from fellow students — no one knew they were father and son. 'We used to sit close to each other while studying, but no one ever guessed our bond,' said Yashpal.
Both appeared for the exam on the same day at different centres. When the results were declared in October, they discovered that they had both qualified. The emotional highlight came on Sunday during a pre-deployment briefing by Hapur SP Kunwar Gyananjay Singh at Naveen Mandi, where it was revealed that the two had been selected together.
Yashpal is set to undergo training in Shahjahanpur, while Shekhar will begin his training in Bareilly.
'I feel immense pride in being selected alongside my son. After serving in the Army, I now have another opportunity to serve the nation through the police force,' said Yashpal.
Sharing his excitement, Shekhar added, 'Our hard work has paid off. I'll now start preparing for the sub-inspector examination.'

Trump to meet Pak COAS Asim Munir in Washington, experts say Iran on agenda
Washington, DC [US], June 18 (ANI): The White House on Tuesday confirmed a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Pakistan Chief of Army Staff Field Marshall Asim Munir for Wednesday. The meeting comes even as the US seeks to bring to an end the ongoing crisis in West Asia. South Asia analyst Michael Kugelman pointed out the significance of the meeting in a post on X. 'Senior US officials often engage with Pakistani Army Chiefs, but rarely is one hosted at the White House by the US President. One of many reasons why Munir's scheduled meeting with Trump is so significant, especially as his administration considers its options regarding the war in Iran,' he posted on X. 'For what it's worth, the scheduled Trump-Munir meeting shouldn't only be seen through the lens of the Israel-Iran war. There's been US-Pak engagement on critical minerals, crypto, and Counter Terrorism. Trump takes a deep personal interest in all of these. And Munir is empowered to talk about it all. Also, Kashmir,' he added. Derek J. Grossman, National Security and Indo-Pacific analyst, said, 'India, time to speak up! Trump this week is scheduled to meet at the White House with Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir, who New Delhi believes is the terrorist mastermind behind attacks on Indians.' The last Pakistani military leader to meet a sitting U.S. President was General Pervez Musharraf in 2001, who did so as the nation's head of state during his tenure as a military dictator. The Trump-Munir meeting comes after reports speculated on the possibility of Pakistan aiding Iran during its ongoing conflict with Israel. Asim Munir, in a public address in Washington, DC, had declared Pakistan's 'clear and strong' support for Iran in its war with Israel while also backing US efforts to de-escalate the situation. The Dawn reported that one of the most consequential developments during Munir's visit, however, has been Pakistan's strengthened counterterrorism partnership with the United States, particularly against the Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K) group. Earlier, overseas Pakistanis protested against Field Marshal Asim Munir outside an event at a hotel in Washington, DC. People shouted slogans 'Pakistanio ke Qatil' and 'Islamabad ke Qatil' while Munir was being welcomed at the event. While sharing the video of the protest on X, Pak Tehreek-e-Insaaf (Imran Khan's party) stated, 'Pakistani-Americans in Washington, DC are protesting outside the Four Seasons hotel, reminding General Asim Munir of the crimes he's committed against the people of Pakistan.' The video showed a screen which had Asim Munir's photo along with the message which read, 'Mass Murderer Asim Munir', 'Democracy dies when guns speak', and Asim Munir, your time is up. Pakistan will rise.' (ANI)

J-K: Indian Army begins pre-recruitment training for Territorial Army aspirants in Bhaderwah
Bhaderwah (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 18 (ANI): To empower local youth and prepare them for upcoming Territorial Army (TA) recruitment rallies, the Indian Army's 4 Rashtriya Rifles unit, based in Bhaderwah, has launched a pre-recruitment training programme in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The registration for the training session began in the morning at the Army camp in Sarna, Bhaderwah. The initiative is part of the Army's broader mission to empower and engage youth from remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir by preparing them for a career in the armed forces. The training aims to enhance the physical fitness, discipline, and overall readiness of participants to meet the rigorous demands of the recruitment process. The Army conducted screening and recruitment training for youth enrolment in the Indian Army at Bhaderwah. An Army official overseeing the training said, 'This programme is not only a pathway to employment for our youth but also a step toward strengthening national integration and channelising their energy in a positive direction.' 'The pre-recruitment training aimed to provide physical conditioning and written examination preparation for youth aspiring to join the Indian Army from remote areas of Doda District,' the officer added. Local youth have shown enthusiastic participation in the training, expressing gratitude for the Army's support. One participant stated, 'We are thankful to the Army for organising this training. It is giving us the confidence and skills needed to join the Territorial Army and serve the nation.' A large number of aspiring youths participated in the training session and appreciated the Army for such a great initiative. A candidate, Mohammad Rafi, said, 'We are very thankful to the Indian Army for providing this opportunity. This training helps us improve our stamina, discipline, and confidence to face the TA recruitment process.' Another candidate said, '2-3 days back, we were told that Army is conducting a rally related to free training here. We are here for training regarding running, pull-ups and push-ups. If we practise on our own at our home, I don't think we will be able to perform that well...' 'The Army knows about this better than we do. So, we have come here today. Right from my childhood, I wanted to join the Army. My grandfather had participated in the Kargil War. So, I have wanted to be here since childhood,' he added. (ANI)
