These 13 New Caribbean Resorts Take Business Events Seriously

Skift07-05-2025

These new and newly renovated resorts, featured in our just-released What's New in Meetings and Incentive Travel 2025 report, were chosen for their ability to accommodate everything from large meetings to high-end incentive trips.
For our new What's New in Meetings and Incentive Travel 2025 report, Skift Meetings has curated a selection of 135 of the most remarkable and strategically valuable new venues worldwide, specifically designed to support planners involved in shortlisting, selecting, and procuring venues for a variety of business events.
In the Caribbean, we found that the popularity of the all-inclusive model is holding strong, from classic offerings such as the renovated Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas, to new brands offering all-inclusive packages, such as Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, SLS Playa Mujeres Cancun, and W Punta Cana, Adult All-Inclusive, all of which represent the respective brand's first all-inclusive property.
One popular trend is to have two large, adjacent properties that share common event spaces, with one property catering to families, while the other offering an adults-only experience. This report features three such 'double-bill' properties: Princess Senses The Mangrove / Princess Grand Jamaica, JW Marriott All-Inclusive Costa Mujeres / W AllInclusive Costa Mujeres, and Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa / Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa.

San Juan's La Concha Resort hits major milestone with Suite Tower renovation done

San Juan beachfront resort La Concha has nearly completed a $80.2 million renovation, highlighted by a reimagined Suite Tower with 238 redesigned rooms. The completed work marks La Concha's official transition to Marriott International's Autograph Collection, the resort said. The resort previously was branded as a Renaissance, another Marriott brand. Suites have a "soothing color palette of whites, bone, gray and teal, evoking the tropical-modern aesthetic that La Concha Resort is renowned for," the resort said. A polished stainless steel bar cart in the suite offers guests rum, beverages and snacks. La Concha said a new cocktail program at the renovated lobby bar "invites guests to personalize their cocktails by choosing from five distinct infusions and selecting a unique creation based on their mood, whether it's adventurous, passionate, social, introvert or life of the party." La Concha's iconic seashell structure is home to the Mediterranean-inspired Levant restaurant. Photo Credit: La Concha Resort Culinary offerings also have been transformed as part of the renovation. Levant, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Michael White, opened in March within the resort's iconic shell-shaped structure. Tekka Bar serves handrolls and sake in the hotel's lobby. A new three-meal restaurant, AQA Oceanfront, is slated to open this summer. Ballroom renovations are expected to finish later this fall. The wellness experience at La Concha was elevated with the opening of Elemara Spa & Salon late last year. The property is also home to Casino del Mar, Puerto Rico's first BetMGM Sportsbook, and the Fifty Eight Nightclub.

AMC theaters to play longer ads in lieu of more-expensive tickets

The advertisements before movies are expected to get longer at AMC Cinemas. But it's to combat one thing. The cinema chain is joining major competitors in running even more commercials starting in July under a new partnership with cinema advertising company National CineMedia, USA Today reported. Under the deal, AMC will play commercials in the 'platinum spot,' the part right before the movie begins. The goal is to add revenue without increasing customer ticket prices as theaters continues to struggle financially and recover from COVID-19 losses. 'For the past five years, AMC has sought out crucial revenue that is not reliant on the increase of base ticket prices,' the company said in a statement to the New York Times. While AMC expressed it was reluctant to bring this to theaters, the company also said its competitors have fully participated for more than five years, without any direct impact to their attendance. It is unclear how long the advertisements will run and what kind of ads viewers can expect to see. Find your closest AMC theater here. Disney to make final payment of $439 million for full control of Hulu

Disney will pay Comcast's NBC Universal almost $439 million for its stake in Hulu, The Associated Press reported. The transaction gives Disney complete ownership of Hulu, allowing for more integration with the Disney+ streaming service. It comes after an initial payment of $8.61 billion in December 2023, which was part of the agreed-upon $27.5 billion floor value set in 2019. As for the final decision made on Monday, Disney will pay the remaining $438.7 million to acquire Comcast's stake in Hulu. The acquisition is expected to close by July 24. 'Completing the Hulu acquisition paves the way for a deeper and more seamless integration of Hulu's general entertainment content with Disney+ and, soon, with ESPN's direct-to-consumer product, providing an unrivaled value proposition for consumers,' Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement. Comcast gave up its authority to Disney in 2019, becoming a silent partner. Hulu started in 2007, quickly becoming a popular streaming service. Disney joined in 2009, planning to offer shows from ABC, ESPN and the Disney Channel. A decade later, Disney gained majority control of the business when it acquired 21st Century Fox.
