Authorities investigate suspected sabotage of German Navy
Authorities are investigating a possible case of sabotage of a German Navy warship.
A "possible security-relevant incident" has been identified at the naval arsenal in the north-western port city of Wilhelmshaven, a spokesman for the Operational Command Centre in Berlin said on Friday.
"The frigate Hessen is currently there, undergoing scheduled maintenance," the spokesman said, without providing further details.
The investigative association comprising regional public broadcasters WDR and NDR and the Süddeutsche Zeitung broadsheet reported earlier Friday that the investigation concerns the contamination of the frigate's drinking water system.
They reported that there is a suspicion that attempts may have been made to contaminate the frigate's drinking water system with dozens of litres of waste oil.
The circumstances of the incident are currently being examined by military and civilian investigative authorities. Soldiers requested the involvement of the military and civilian police on Thursday evening after approximately 50 litres of waste oil were discovered in the flushing system of a civilian contractor's suction truck, which resulted in a malfunction, dpa has learnt.
Recently, there have been at least two concrete cases of suspected sabotage of ships.
Investigations are under way regarding the corvette Emden, which is still under construction, as well as a separate incident in which cable harnesses were cut on a minehunter.

Woman arrested in stabbing attack at German train station
BERLIN — A stabbing attack at the busy central train station in the German city of Hamburg left multiple people injured, some of them in life-threatening condition, authorities said. A woman was arrested. The attacker targeted people on the platform between tracks 13 and 14 in the station, according to police. The station in downtown Hamburg, Germany's second-biggest city, is a major hub for local, regional and long-distance trains. Hamburg's fire service said six people sustained life-threatening injuries, while another three were seriously injured and three had slight injuries, German news agency DPA reported. Police, however, said on the social platform X that there were no 'valid figures' yet but that 'several' people had life-threatening injuries. Police said a 39-year-old woman was arrested and she is believed to have acted alone. There was no immediate information on a possible motive. Regional public broadcaster NDR reported that the attack took place shortly after 6 p.m. in front of a waiting train. A high-speed ICE train with its doors open could be seen at the platform after the attack. Railway operator Deutsche Bahn said it was 'deeply shocked' by the attack. Four tracks at the station were closed Friday evening, and some long-distance trains were delayed or diverted. Carrying weapons, including knives, is banned at the station and on local transport in Hamburg.
