Ascend Airways Malaysia advances AOC process
In 2024, Ascend Airways Malaysia secured a Conditional Air Service Permit from the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) and began the process of obtaining an AOC from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
In a statement today, the Kuala Lumpur-based aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) and charter airline said it will offer both passenger and cargo services.
'The airline's first Boeing 737-800 freighter is scheduled to arrive in Malaysia in the third quarter of 2025 to support the final stages of the AOC process and the launch of cargo operations.
'Two passenger-configured Boeing 737-800 aircraft will follow, with deliveries expected by the end of 2025 and early 2026,' it said.
Ascend Airways Malaysia chief executive officer Germal Singh Khera said the airline aims to become a trusted ACMI partner, helping carriers enhance operational agility and meet growing demand for passenger and cargo services across the Asia-Pacific region.
'As a new ACMI airline in Malaysia, we are continually grateful for the support, global outlook, and proactive approach extended by the Ministry of Transport, CAAM, MAVCOM, and other relevant authorities advancing the aviation industry in Malaysia.
'This overwhelming support has enabled us to establish a solid operational foundation to assist air operators and their ambitions in the region,' he said.
Meanwhile, Ascend Airways United Kingdom chief executive officer Alastair Willson said the Malaysian entity will form part of the group's broader seasonal fleet strategy.
'ACMI is a proven solution for airlines seeking to efficiently meet dynamic travel demand and unlock new revenue opportunities. We remain resolute in our aspirations to be leaders in this space,' he said.
Avia Solutions Group already holds an AOC in Indonesia and is seeking regulatory approval for additional AOCs in Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia by the end of 2026.

SEPANG: The Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, Dr Muhammad Yunus, arrived in Malaysia today for a three-day official visit. He was invited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss key bilateral matters. The commercial flight carrying Yunus and his delegation landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 7.47 pm. Both leaders will also exchange views on regional and international developments. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed during the visit. The MoUs cover defence, energy, strategic studies, semiconductor capacity building, and trade promotion. An Exchange of Notes will also be signed for diplomatic training and higher education. Anwar will host an official luncheon at Seri Perdana Complex in honour of Yunus and his delegation. On Wednesday, Yunus will deliver a public lecture at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He will also be conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Social Business by UKM. Yunus will engage with members of the Yunus Social Business Centre community during his visit. In 2024, Malaysia-Bangladesh trade reached RM13.35 billion, marking a 5.1 per cent increase from 2023. Bangladesh is Malaysia's second-largest trading partner in South Asia. Major Malaysian exports to Bangladesh include petroleum products, palm oil, and chemicals. Imports from Bangladesh consist of textiles, footwear, and manufactured goods. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual benefit. Diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Bangladesh were established in 1972. - Bernama

JPJ: ‘SIS' number plates up for auction Aug 15 to mark Selangor Sultan's Silver Jubilee
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) today said it will open online bidding from August 15 for a special 'SIS' vehicle registration plate series. It will be held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's reign in 2026. 'The bidding process is subject to the existing terms and conditions set under the JPJeBid System. 'Any successfully bid registration number must be registered to a vehicle within twelve months from the date of the official bidding results letter,' the department said in a statement. JPJ said the 'SIS' index stands for 'Sultan Idris Shah' and honours the ninth Sultan of Selangor, marking the celebration of His Royal Highness' 25 years on the throne next year. The department said the bidding will be conducted via its JPJeBid system and will run from August 15 until 10pm on August 19, with results to be announced on the next day. JPJ added that the online auction is open to all members of the public, in line with JPJ's aim of providing a transparent and accessible platform for the purchase of special registration numbers. 'All are welcome to participate through JPJeBid as a medium to obtain their preferred registration number from the SIS series,' the department said.

The appointment reflects the company's commitment to public-interest aligned development and stronger governance as it enters a new phase of growth, Classita said in a statement. It also said this leadership change comes as NexG Bhd emerges as a substantial shareholder following its acquisition of a 32.61% equity stake in Classita, Bernama reported. 'In line with this, Classita intends to propose the construction of a dedicated residential development to Royal Malaysian Police Cooperative Ltd (KPDRM) on its Ulu Kelang land, specifically aimed at supporting the welfare and housing needs of police personnel and their families,' it said. It said the project aligns with its shift towards socially responsible, Madani-aligned development. 'This initiative is not about property; it's about purpose. By proposing this to KPDRM, we're creating a win-win solution – uplifting the lives of those who serve the nation, while aligning Classita's future with meaningful, socially-driven development,' said Razarudin in the same statement. As part of an internal restructuring, Ng Keok Chai, formerly executive chairman, has been redesignated as executive director, where he will continue to oversee project execution and business development under the new direction.
