Greater Chennai police arrest four, including minor, for robbing Grindr date
CHENNAI: Four persons, including a minor, were arrested by the Greater Chennai Police on Saturday for allegedly robbing a 26-year-old youth of nearly 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The victim had invited one of them over to his house after meeting him on a dating app Grindr.
The MKB Nagar police said the youth invited a man Jayanthi Nathan (35), whom he had met in Grindr a week ago, to his rented accommodation when his parents had gone to Bengaluru.
However, Jayanthi came to his place with three more people, whom the police identified as Ayappan (33) of Ambattur, a 17-year-old girl and Esther (32), Jayanthi's wife. Jayanthi has also been identified as a history-sheeter.
After entering the house, the group gagged and tied the youth up and locked him inside the bathroom before decamping with 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery and 4 kg of silverware from the house.
After freeing himself, the victim reported the crime to the MKB Nagar police station who used CCTV footage and mobile tracking to trace the suspects to a lodge in Villupuram. Around 181 grams of gold jewellery and 1 kg of silver were recovered from Esther.
The police said Jayanthi has been involved in similar crimes targeting people through online applications in the past.

CMDA allots ₹54 cr. to Chennai police to install cameras, build rehabilitation centre
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has allotted ₹54.36 crore to Greater Chennai Police from its Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam (VCVT) (North Chennai Development Plan). Under this plan, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed at 45 locations at the cost of ₹9.16 crore. As many as 60 patrol two-wheelers will be procured additionally at a cost of ₹90 lakh. ₹60 lakh will be allotted for skill development of the members of 10 boys and girls clubs. Additionally, a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts will be set up at the cost of ₹2.95 crore. Police barracks will be constructed at the cost of ₹9.75 crore and police stations will be built at the cost of ₹31 crore. A total of ₹54.36 crore for seven projects will be funded by the CMDA including two infrastructure projects — V.6 Kolathur Police Station and K-5 Peravallur Police Station, said Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun. The Government has been implementing the VCVT, comprising major infrastructure projects of 10 stakeholder departments including Housing and Urban Development, following an announcement by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

Two arrested for conning women through job scams
Chennai: The cyber crime unit of Greater Chennai Police arrested fraudsters involved in deceiving women through online part-time job scams and the "Google reviews" fraud at Washermenpet and Virugambakkam on Tuesday. The North Zone cyber crime unit arrested 39-year-old S Veeraraghavan from Thirunindravur based on a complaint from 27-year-old K Mohanapriya, a resident of New Washermenpet, who lost more than 4.5 lakh after investing in the scam. Mohanapriya was initially promised 200 for each screenshot she sent of YouTube videos shared in a Telegram group created for this purpose. Gradually, she invested more, paying a total of 4.5 lakh in 49 instalments. When she requested to withdraw her money along with the promised profits, she was asked to invest even more, which led her to file a police complaint. Tracing the bank accounts linked to Mohanapriya's payments, police arrested Veeraraghavan. However, to receive more assignments, victims are pressured to invest money with promises of high returns. In another case registered with the West Zone cyber crime unit, 27-year-old V Nagananthini of Virugambakkam lost 3.61 lakh from her savings after falling victim to a similar online part-time job scam. Police arrested P Selvam, 28, and S Saravanan, 29, from Thiruvannamalai for luring Nagananthini into the scam and cheating her. The accused in both cases were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

228 people held in drug-related cases
Chennai: Police have arrested 228 people 28 of them from other states in 110 drug-related cases so far this year. Of these, 170 were arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit of Greater Chennai Police in 91 ganja-related cases, with 285kg of cannabis seized. As many as 13 people were arrested in seven cases involving illegal drug tablet sales, resulting in the seizure of 1,554 tablets. Six new synthetic drug networks were uncovered within Chennai's jurisdiction during this period. In 12 related cases, 45 accused were arrested, and the drugs seized included 133g of meth, 1,541g of methaqualone, 46.56g of heroin, and 49g of cocaine. Following directives from commissioner A Arun, 16 of those arrested in May were booked under Goondas Act. In another case, Choolaimedu police arrested two people for possessing banned tobacco products and seized 15.9kg of gutka. They were identified as S Prajwal Kumar, 27, and S Murugan, 32. Triplicane police arrested two people for hoarding about 15,000 packs of illegally imported cigarettes and vapes. They conducted searches near a mansion and found the stock hoarded and arrested them.
