Over the past few years, Madison Beer has talked candidly about having her nude photos and videos shared online without her consent when she was a minor.
Madison first addressed the leak in detail in 2020, writing on X: 'When I was around 14 and exploring my body and sexuality, I sent very private Snapchats of my body to a boy I really liked at the time. I sent these, at 14, thinking I could trust the boy as we had known each other for years & shared feelings for one another, but of course he shared it with all his friends.'

'I was distraught and ashamed,' Madison later wrote after noting that the video ended up all over the internet. 'This was a traumatizing experience that has instilled intense trust issues in me, that I'm still working on to this day.'
A couple of years ago, Madison opened up about the aftermath of the incident further on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she recalled being blackmailed and shamed online. 'I probably was even maybe 14, 13 in some of the videos that exist,' she said, later adding that adult men would say things like, ''I wanna fuck her, she looks so hot,'' in response to the leaked footage.
Madison also revealed that she once saw footage of a 'visibly grown adult" having 'aggressive sex' with a sex doll while watching one of her leaked videos. 'I couldn't take my eyes off it because of how shocking it was... That image will never leave my head. I was so disturbed by it, and so afraid,' she shared.
Madison said that she ultimately experienced post-traumatic stress disorder and attempted suicide as a result of the traumatizing incident.
Speaking with Cosmopolitan this week, Madison, now 26, revealed that she has since reconnected with the person who leaked the nude footage of her.
'The boy who the whole nude situation happened with, he reached out to me and was like, 'I had no idea that I hurt you like this. I'm so sorry,'' she recalled.
'I don't know how it feels to be a 14-year-old boy receiving photos of a girl. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I don't think he was being malicious showing them to his friends. He was a kid,' she said.
Madison later said, 'Sometimes you've got to just let it go. I tried to go the other way and kill myself, and don't get me wrong, I still have those moments. But I was like, 'I need to first prove all these people wrong. And second, maybe I can help someone out there who sees themselves in me in any way.' I like to think that everything I went through and continue to go through is because I'm strong enough to survive and tell the story.'
'Just because I'm OK with it now doesn't mean I deserved to go through it,' she added.
Reacting to Madison's candid comments, several internet users empathized with the star, while acknowledging how devastating it is that so many children experience nonconsensual leaks.
'Devastating. And I totally think both things can be true—it was malicious AND he was also a kid. To say he was simply a kid minimizes the harm. He knew the harm as a kid, but better understood the impact of the harm as an adult. But it's the lack of care that's genuinely alarming in these young boys,' someone wrote.
'A very interesting outlook for her to have, and I won't tell anyone how to feel about wrongdoing that they survived. I hope she's better protected now,' another user said. 'It's genuinely totally devastating to me that that is the age where literally any of that is happening these days. Children. I honestly hate this world,' one more person added.
