Bob Costas wins Baseball Digest lifetime achievement award
NEW YORK (AP) — Bob Costas has won the fifth Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Baseball Digest.
The longtime broadcaster was honored Thursday with an annual distinction that 'recognizes a living individual whose career has been spent in or around Major League Baseball and who has made significant contributions to the game.'
Willie Mays won the inaugural award in 2021, followed by Vin Scully (2022), Joe Torre (2023) and Dusty Baker (2024).
'Baseball hasn't just been a big part of my career. It's been a big and ongoing part of my life,' Costas said in a news release. 'Someone once said of me, 'He is a citizen of the game.' I hope that was true. I hope I have meant something to the game. I know it has meant a great deal to me."
Costas has hosted or called seven World Series, 10 League Championship Series and eight All-Star Games. He's been with MLB Network since its inception in 2009. He stopped doing play-by-play following the 2024 postseason but will continue to contribute to the network's coverage.
He received the National Baseball Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award in 2018 for major contributions to baseball broadcasting.
'As one of the most decorated sports broadcasters of all-time, Bob Costas' love of baseball and passion for the game has always been evident," MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said. "Bob has been a part of some of the most important moments in MLB history. His vast baseball knowledge and experience has allowed him to provide thoughtful commentary and valuable historical context throughout his career working with MLB's broadcast partners and MLB Network.'

He also caught eight passes for 72 yards, showing his versatility out of the backfield. Perhaps most impressively, Hardy forced 94 missed tackles, the second-most in the nation behind All-American and Heisman contender Ashton Jeanty. Known for his tough, physical running style, Hardy is a natural fit for Missouri's wide-zone offensive scheme—one he already thrived in at ULM. 'We run outside zone like I did at my old school,' Hardy said. 'So I feel like I'm perfecting my craft." Despite having thrown just 15 innings through two seasons with Missouri baseball, dual athlete Sam Horn might have a shot to make the MLB. Advertisement Horn, a pitcher for the baseball team and a quarterback for the football team at Mizzou, was recently added to MLB's Top Draft Prospects, which ranks the top 200 players with draft eligibility. The Lawrenceville, Georgia product sits at No. 124 in the rankings. As a high school recruit, Horn finished as a top 200 recruit nationally in football and baseball (no. 161 by ESPN and No. 162 by Perfect Game, respectively). The 124th pick would land Horn in the second half of the fourth round, while the whole MLB Draft lasts 20 rounds. Horn through a high of 98 MPH this season while also having a slider in his arsenal that had batters lost in 2025. Horn pitched 10.2 innings this season while striking out 14 batters and allowing seven hits. Six of Horn's seven allowed hits came from Alabama through two outings. QBs Beau Pribula and Horn are still vying for the starting spot following spring workouts and according to Mizzou coach Eliah Drinkwitz. 'I told every quarterback that we will not be naming a starting QB coming out of spring,' Drinkwitz said in a press conference. 'It was clear to us after the first week and a half of spring, the competition is between (Pribula) and (Horn).' Most of these known athletes continued their careers in the NFL. These players are able to sign MLB contracts while maintaining college football eligibility. Club World Cup: Jack Grealish left out of Man City squad
MIAMI (AP) — Jack Grealish has been left out of Manchester City's squad for the Club World Cup. City manager Pep Guardiola named a 27-man squad for the tournament, which kicks off in Miami on Saturday, with Grealish a notable omission. The England forward was a British record signing when he moved to City from Aston Villa for 100 million pounds ($139 million then) in 2021 and went on to help the club win three Premier League titles, the Champions League and a host of other trophies. But he has become an increasingly peripheral figure and made only seven league starts last season. The 29-year-old Grealish's absence from the Club World Cup will add to the growing expectation that he will leave during the offseason, with Guardiola embarking on a squad rebuild following the team's first trophyless season in eight years. City's squad includes four new players signed in time to take part in the month-long tournament in the United States: Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli. In January, City also spent big to sign Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis as Guardiola began his overhaul of a squad that saw its dominance of English soccer broken by Liverpool last season. If Grealish goes, he is likely to be one of a number of players to move on.
