Once again, while Chennai Super Kings were down five wicket for just 60, eventually they won the match.Despite the defeat, the night will be remembered not just for cricket, but for Eden Gardens' united voice of patriotism, echoing a powerful message beyond the boundary lines.Earlier following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in a solemn gesture of solidarity and respect, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had paid tribute to the victims of the terror attack in Pahalgam during TATA IPL Match No. 41 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.To honour those who lost their lives, a 60-second moment of silence was observed before the start of play, following a formal announcement over the public address system. This allowed both in-stadium and broadcast audiences to participate in the tribute. During the toss, the captains of both teams offered their condolences and strongly condemned the heinous act. Throughout the match, players, match officials, commentators, and support staff wore black armbands as a mark of respect. The commentary team further acknowledged these gestures on air, reflecting on the emotional significance of the tribute and the nation's shared grief.The BCCI also took a conscious decision to conduct the game without fanfare. There were no cheerleader performances, celebratory fireworks, music, or DJ activities — ensuring a dignified atmosphere that honoured the solemnity of the occasion.

So when he finished as coach and the [contract] negotiations [with CSA] didn't go as planned, it made my decision a lot easier,' Klaasen added. Klaasen, who was recently in action for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 season, wrote on Instagram: 'It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket. It took me a long time to decide what's best for me and my family for the future. It was truly a very difficult decision but also one that I have absolute peace with.' 'From the first day, it was the biggest privilege representing my country and it was everything that I have worked for and dreamed about as a young boy,' the 33-year-old Klaasen added. The hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batter represented South Africa in all three formats across 102 appearances – 4 Tests, 60 ODIs and 58 T20Is. Aggregating all four of his international centuries in ODIs, Klaasen piled up 3145 runs since his debut in 2018.

Going into the series against England, India will be short on experience in the top order as both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli recently retired from the format. However, India does possess a vast resources of talent pool at its disposal, and former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting is quite optimistic about India being able to replace the veteran players. 'It's always very hard to replace players that have been around for so long. But if any country can do it and do it quickly, India can because of the amount of young talent that they have,' said Ponting to the ICC. BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar said the team will miss the experience of Kohli, but also acknowledged that it is an opportunity for others to step up. He also revealed Kohli's decision of wanting to leave came in April. 'When guys like that retire, it's always going to be big holes to fill. Even Ashwin retired a few months back. All those guys are stalwarts of Indian cricket. It's always difficult. One way to look at it is that it's an opportunity for someone else. Obviously, I've had conversations with both of them over the last couple of months. Virat obviously reached out in early April and said he wants to finish,' Agarkar said. 'We've seen him want to give 200 percent every ball that plays… even when he's not batting and in the field. He had given everything that he had and if he can't keep up to the standards that he's set for himself over the years and how good he has been, maybe it was time for him,' he added. 'It's tough for him; you've got to respect that. They have earned that respect, both of them (Rohit and Kohli), and the one thing with great players is that they are true to themselves. When you've got a guy who's played 123 Test matches, you will obviously miss them. It's tough to fill that spot, but it's an opportunity for someone else. He has shown what needs to be done to succeed at this level,' Agarkar added.
