French international midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has suffered a right ankle injury during Real Madrid's training sessions as they prepare for the 2025-2026 season, the Madrid club announced.
Real Madrid specified that the player will undergo thorough medical examinations to determine the extent of the injury and the likely duration of his absence.

According to Spanish journalist Arancha Rodríguez, Camavinga could be sidelined for up to ten days, casting doubt over his availability for Real Madrid's La Liga opener against Osasuna, scheduled for August 19.
Having only recently recovered from a muscle injury that had kept him out since last April, Camavinga featured in 35 matches across all competitions for Real Madrid last season, scoring twice and providing two assists.
At 22 years old, the Frenchman has reportedly received several offers from English clubs, according to Cadena SER radio, but he turned them down, making it clear that he wants to continue his career at Real Madrid.

Messi ruled out of Miami's Leagues Cup quarter-final v Tigres

Lionel Messi was ruled out of Inter Miami's Leagues Cup quarter-final against Tigres UANL on Wednesday, a day after coach Javier Mascherano revealed the Argentine superstar was still struggling with injury. Messi, who has battled a "minor" muscle injury since a Leagues Cup group match against Necaxa on August 2, had returned to Miami's lineup Saturday after a two-week absence, scoring a goal after coming on as a substitute in a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy. However the 38-year-old World Cup winner looked to be in physical discomfort during his second-half appearance, and he was not in the lineup announced before the clash in the cross-border club competition for teams from Major League Soccer and Mexico's Liga-MX. Messi's absence is a blow to Miami's hopes of regaining the Leagues Cup title they won in 2023 during the Argentine icon's fairytale first season in Major League Soccer. Mascherano predicted a stiff test against Tigres, the eight-time Mexican champions, describing them as "a team with a lot of offensive power." Miami's game with Tigres was one of four Leagues Cup quarter-finals set for Wednesday. Mexico's Toluca face Orlando City before Los Angeles Galaxy host Pachuca, while the Seattle Sounders take on Puebla at home. bb/mlm

Saints acquire second-year wide receiver Devaughn Vele from Broncos for a pair of draft picks

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos are alleviating some of the crowding in their wide receiver room by sending second-year pro Devaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints for a pair of draft picks. The Broncos will get a fourth-round selection in next year's draft and a seventh-rounder in 2027 in exchange for Vele, who caught 41 passes for 475 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie last season. Vele (6-foot-5 and 210 pounds) was a seventh-round selection by Denver out of Utah in 2024. He caught all eight passes thrown to him in last year's opener and two of his three TDs came against the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs. He also caught a half-dozen passes for 80 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12. Vele joins a receiver corps in New Orleans that also includes Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Brandin Cooks, Mason Tipton, Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Dante Pettis. Led by Courtland Sutton, the Broncos have a deep wide receiving corps, which coach Sean Payton has said would provide some difficult decisions when it comes to paring the roster to the NFL-mandated 53 players next week. In addition to Marvin Mims Jr., Trent Sherfield Sr. and Troy Franklin, rookie Pat Bryant has had an outstanding training camp as have undrafted rookies Joaquin Davis, Jerjuan Newton and Courtney Jackson. The Broncos (2-0) visit the Saints (0-1-1) Saturday in a preseason finale. ___ AP Sports Writer Brett Martel in New Orleans contributed. ___ AP NFL:

Reds place catcher Tyler Stephenson on injured list because of thumb injury

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson was placed on the injured list Wednesday because of a small fracture on the tip of his left thumb, an injury he initially sustained while catching a pitch from hard-throwing right-hander Hunter Greene last week. Stephenson, who is batting .226 nine homers and 36 RBIs in 72 games, aggravated the injury while catching Nick Lodolo's bullpen session Tuesday night before a against the Los Angeles Angels and was sent for X-rays, which revealed the fracture. 'You can play as tolerated, but the catching part, that makes it a little more difficult,' manager Terry Francona said. '(His recovery) would be quicker if he wasn't a catcher." Stephenson will be evaluated by a hand specialist Thursday during a off day in Phoenix. Jose Trevino will take over as the starting catcher, and Will Banfield was called up from Triple-A Louisville. ___ AP MLB: The Associated Press
